Woman behind us at The Girl From the North Country the other evening, immaculately behaved during the show, but during the interval she decided to call all her friends, one by one, and tell them very loudly her opinions on the show. She was very loudly disappointed in all the performances, especially compared to the cast recording.
Obviously, she has the right to have those opinions, and to tell her friends about them, but in the middle of the theatre, during the interval, with other patrons around? That's just rude. She was also keen to name-drop every member of both the current and original cast, clearly just showing off how much she knew to both her friends and most of the dress circle.
The rudeness was compounded by the fact that the conversations were so one-sided (on her side) that I wondered aloud to my partner if she was really on the phone or if she was actually recording a podcast.

I'm a little suspicious about their cancelled shows. The one with Laura Pitt-Pulford and Louise Dearman was supposedly cancelled because of a leak; I'm sure it had nothing to do with the fact they'd sold about nine tickets when I checked the day before.

Can he go for a personal best and crowbar “Our Kind of Love”/“Love Never Dies” into a third show? Loved it in The Beautiful Game, i bought it on a cassette single, and hated it in Love Never Dies where it became an overwrought mess. Please lets not hear it again.
Was anything released from Stephen Ward before it opened? I'm sure I knew 'I'm Hopeless When It Comes To You' before i went in.Here's hoping something gets released. Maybe when they launch the full website.
I have two songs from it in my iTunes, Human Sacrifice and I'm Hopeless When It Comes To You. I think they released them as a free download on the show's website.

Love Schwartz, but £60 is a lot to take a chance on with no cast announced yet. Is it not a cast of one? "Some of Stephen Schwartz's favourite compositions will be performed by artists from previous Aria Entertainment and Hope Mill Theatre productions"

I saw this at both Southwalk and Kings Cross and I agree this looks AMAZING! So refreshing and upbeat! Two questions that I hope somebody can answer: Whilst I am aware of his involvement in the show, does anyone know if Lin-Manuel Miranda actually appears on the film? and When is this released next year in the UK? He is the Piragua guy and I believe it will be out in time for 4th July It's not out in the UK until August 7th, according to Wikipedia.

Argh, their site is infuriating. So long since I last bought direct with them that I seem to have forgotten my password, but its 'forgotten password' thing isn't working, so I can't log-in and so can't buy tickets!

I'm 5'5" (do I win something?), and was really uncomfortable in a stalls seat watching this. It wasn't so much the legroom, but something about the angle of the seat and the fact it was so low down, it was really hurting my back by the interval, and I left it until the last possible second to sit down for the second half.

I went in to the box office around 11am today as I happened to be passing, asked about Day Seats, and was told "we don't do day seats".
She did however offer me some good seats towards the side of Row J in the stalls for £47.50, which when I checked online later were still selling there for £87.50, so box office clearly have the power to do some decent deals - nice to see.
I said no to those tickets - will try another time for 'proper' day seats at £25, as it seems like others have managed to get them!

Well that was fantastic!
It's so wonderful to hear such an amazing score played so well by such a big orchestra, and sung brilliantly by a huge cast. On the other hand, I swear every time I see this show it's faster - let the music breathe!
The 'concert' setting I can take or leave, if I'm honest, and I'm looking forward to seeing what they do with the staging in the new production. The concert staging works in some parts, and is disappointing in others (I thought Fantine's death scene was particularly weak in this regard).
Of the cast, largely great. Michael Ball surprised me, he acts the role really well, and his performance of the Suicide is probably the best I've seen. Matt Lucas plays a genuinely funny Thenardier, alongside whoever is playing Mme Thenardier.
Boe... is Boe. Some parts of his performance were fantastic, but in other parts he oversings. But tonight he convinced me as Valjean. Which is more than CHF did - her Fantine is an absolute cipher. It's not much of a role anyway, but her IDAD and the rest of her story left me cold tonight. She sings it beautifully, but that's about it.
And the encores... Five Valjeans I could take or leave (we've pretty much seen it before, and Bring Him Home doesn't need a key change whilst Alfie Boe does his muscle pose from Carousel), but Stars! I feel like we don't often get special versions of this underrated song, so the duet tonight was a privilege to see.
I am *so* glad I saw this and took the plunge on a restricted view seat (D26 grand circle incidentally, and I don't recommend it) - fab night.

1. Hamilton 2. Fun Home 3. Come From Away 4. The Book of Mormon 5. Six 6. The Girls (Calendar Girls) 7. & Juliet (maybe recency helping this out) 8. Waitress 9. Mythic 10. Preludes
That's being very strict - if I were including things that premiered in London this decade, there'd be a few more entries, including In the Heights and Titanic near the top of the list.

In the meantime - are there any rules? Is it only new things, or anything we've seen this year?

Email from DMT this morning about Monday's performance, telling me that "There will be 360 degree filming in the auditorium. Views of the stage may be blocked at any time during the performance."
Filming is one thing, views being blocked is quite another. If there is a camera in front of me for considerable portions of the show, believe me I shall be kicking off (politely).

Went to &Juliet on Weds evening, I think this does attract some terrible behaviour. The beginning I can understand, there's no preshow announcement and the show does start suddenly however the girl in front of me took her phone out every 10 minutes or so to film, luckily the ushers were on it and eventually stood next to her (she was luckily on an aisle seat). She left at intermission and didn't come back. I was at the same performance, and boy, it really does attract some bad behaviour, doesn't it. Though it actually wasn't as bad as I feared at the start, people were mostly quiet once it got going. There was a girl a couple of rows in front of me who did the same thing, getting her phone out and taking photos, and kept doing so even while being told off by an usher. Then the girl next to me, who'd been taking photos with a huge camera before the show, checked her phone constantly throughout Act 1.
I feel like the contingent was probably worse than normal. It was Grace Mouat's first scheduled show, and I learned afterwards she was in Six. So it was very much that crowd I was surrounded by in the front few rows. Enthusiastic doesn't begin to cover it.

Enjoyed this tonight in Dartford, was pleasantly surprised. Manford works well in it, and it's a surprisingly engaging whodunnit. Decently full too.

Hmm, I would normally agree with you about light and shade being a valuable asset to a show, but to be honest, with Titanic, I just love the wall of sound the chorus creates on these numbers. The changes in volume also sound really overdone on these clips, as if someone's just grabbed the volume dial and turned it down, then back up again.

Agreed, surprisingly easy - sat in the queue for about 5 minutes, then went through to the page and there were a decent number of tickets left at all price levels except the cheapest £17.50 (which I assume were only the slips anyway).
£37.50 paid for 'restricted view' in the Grand Circle, let's hope it's okay! Theatremonkey thinks so anyway, and that's enough for me!

We were at my in-laws in Newcastle over the weekend, and I was reading the programme for upcoming show's at the city's Theatre Royal.
According to the ticket-buying information, they have two rows of Premium seats (I think they call them superseats), Rows F and G in the stalls I think, that *do* have extra legroom, for 'a small premium'. (For On Your Feet, they are £53 vs £51 and £48 for the other good stalls seats)
That's the way to do it!

The Adelphi is one of those theatres with the door to the toilets directly in the auditorium - I wonder if that increases the number of people who go during the show? I've often wondered if having a row marked P in most theatres has the same effect. Thankfully most theatres aren't big enough to have a seat 69.

So for those of you who set your expectations based on the things you read in here, I would advise you not to. I am quite happy to set my expectations based on things I read here, thank you very much.
This is a community of theatre fans whose opinions I respect. Many of them have seen a lot of the same shows I've seen, and I know how to read and interpret their opinions. For example, there are some people here whom I know I often disagree with, so I won't necessarily take their opinions into account when deciding what to see - and that's fine, we just have differing taste. Then on the other side, there are people here whose taste I often align with - usually if they've liked something, I will too.
I also hated Hadestown - I thought it was boring. I'm still surprised it was as well received on Broadway as it was.

No fewer than six women visiting the Ladies during the first act of Waitress last night.
The Adelphi is one of those theatres with the door to the toilets directly in the auditorium - I wonder if that increases the number of people who go during the show? Both the 'suggestibility' of seeing the toilets sign, as well as the impression that it'll be nice and quick and you won't miss much.
