Not sure what you mean by “how much he gets to sing”. He’ll sing the role of Dan. The original cast recording shows exactly how much that character gets to sing. Thank you. I know next to nothing about the source material at this point, but the mention of 9 songs is enough for me to just dash to the website and grab a ticket Sorry if I offended the fans of the show somehow - I hope I will enjoy it as much. I really appreciate that you helped me with the information I was looking for.

Will be looking forward to the first reports in here of how much he gets to sing. I do miss his splendid baritone.. You do realise this is a Tony award winning and Pulitzer Prize winning musical, right? The whole show is on Spotify, YouTube etc. Dan features heavily in numerous songs, but he is considered a supporting actor to the lead character Diana. He plays her husband and sings in about 9 songs. A list is here at the bottom of the page - avoid the main page text for spoilers: nexttonormal.fandom.com/wiki/Dan_GoodmanSorry, I might have not realised that since 98% of my theatre going experience are plays so I only visit musicals when I can’t resist.. because of the particular performer (everything with Jamie is a good example) or the creators behind it (Lazarus, Memphis, Once). Still thanks a lot for the info!

Am I the only one here who booked this solely on the presence of Jamie Parker? Certainly not the only one I am wondering how big a role he has in this..

Could anyone who've seen it please let me know if Sam Barnett is singing a lot in this? He is the only draw for me, but now reading the reviews I’m not sure if it’s even worth it..

Has anyone tried day tickets for this? Can I just turn up an hour before the show and get them? Go to Old Vic website from the day before then 10am on the day; prices drop to £50 in stalls if lots of availability. If on a budget, side seats in dress and baylis are available from £13. Great tip, thank you! I was also wondering if there’s ever a chance to get discount tickets in The Old Vic..

Does anyone know where the Rush tickets and the day tickets are located? Was offered Stalls C15 last week. A bargain!

Does anyone know where the Rush tickets and the day tickets are located? Funny thing is I tried for Rush (as a rehearsal, to find out exactly the same) yesterday and it never appeared for this production in particular. I mean the red button it the App never turned to ‘Get Rush’ while for other productions it did at the same time. I even checked if I indeed unlocked them (which I did). Waited for 5 mins and gave up.

I realize this may be a lost cause, but I am in London (alone) from August 23rd to 26th and I would desperately like to see this show. I was devastated when I heard about it last week, only to call up and learn I'd just missed out on the last few tickets for those dates. In the past, I've been quite lucky when it comes to queuing for returns/held tickets on the day of the show (especially if I am only after a single ticket), but with the Donmar seating capacity being so small I fear that any possible returns are going to be like gold dust. So trying to manage my expectations. Can anyone with more experience with the Donmar venue offer me any tips on the best methods to try for returns from there? I live in the north of England so I can only try for tickets during the brief period I'm in London (there are five shows during the time I'll be there). Is it there hope in queueing at the box office on the day of performances? Can anyone explain to me how these 'day tickets' work? They release returns online as far as I know, just keep checking back closer to your dates. Don’t give up! I managed to get one for Private Lives just by having the tab saved on my phone and checking whenever I remembered.

I think I'm going to wait for the two front rows to go on sale. Even tho I have a voucher, prices are a bit too high for a decent seat. Thanks for the tip! Any idea when they might release the two front rows? Subscribed at the website but it’s all been so quiet lately..

I bought a reduced ticket from a friend to catch this before it moves to The Savoy. I am sat in Stalls C19, 3 seats to the end of the row (left hand side), and I can see there is a countertop in the way on the left hand side of the stage. For anyone who has sat fairly close on this side, will it be much of a restriction? I sat in D17, was absolutely fine(it’s a bit more central but not to far). Enjoy!

Any useful hacks for booking one of the two seats together? A friend is looking for a specific date, but going alone. Adding to basket and losing one didn not help. Always annoys me!

Any idea if they are introducing Rush ticket/Day seats for this? Row A is absent on the layout and B is suspiciously unavailable.. The front row is on sale for £25 for all performances through Delfont now with the warning "Seats are located up close to the rain curtain, where there is a chance of experiencing a slight mist from the water" Brilliant! Thanks, booked. I don't mind being splashed

Going to this tonight in the standing pit, any suggestions as to where the best place to stand is? My companion is on the shorter side... I was under impression is got played more to one of the longer sides (if you dace the stage the orchestra should be on your right hand side), but overall impression you always have someone’s face to look at, someone’s move or prop to enjoy. It was comfy right in front, audience behaviour I experience was immaculate. Everyone gives you enough space to feel comfy and find your perfect angle if you need to.

Had a blast standing last night! Buckets of joy but also appreciated technical elements - the choreography behind changing scenes is exceptional and doesn’t distract you from the action it only throws you in! The leads are very good, but there will never be another Sky for me apart from Jamie Parker.. Richardson is not a match neither in voice nor in charisma, maybe that’s just me.. love the afterparty dance hall moves and actors staying for some extra engagement with auditorium was a bice bonus. Big numbers got so much cheer, Sit down you’re rocking s boat almost left me deaf in one ear! But I always love to be close to the action if if I got splashed by water or whatnot from time to time.. I believe would enjoy it less if was in a seat. I totally get that watching the crowd move do much from above can be annoying.

Authors don't necessarily hate their characters just because they don't give them a happy ending. Life doesn't always provide happy endings even if that is how we might like to see people rewarded on stage or in film. Yes I do understand that, and I love myself a sad ending when it actually fits. There’s something beautiful in that as well, when, take The Crucible, you are given a glimpse of hope and then it’s brutally taken from you, but you sit there thinking: yes, it works. I would not want any other ending, would not trade it for anything, because it’s in character and giving them a happy ending would be denying their true nature. And this is a good example of an author loving a character, being devoted to them even when they are sending them to a death sentence. But the tragedy of losing hope here throws there entire thing into the litter for me. I was digging this before - a play about love, painful as it, how it can save us, how being intimate, giving in to someone, trust completely would feel so rewarding, so freeing that even a person with such a horrible past can begin to live again, which seemed impossible before. But now with that being thrown at Jude in the last 10 mins what does it add? Which idea it promotes now? It just makes no sense to me.. maybe someone could comment how it felt while reading a book..

Saw the production last night and gotta agree to those here who mentioned that the events depicted are so repetitively harrowing that it make you numb and non-responsive at some point.. i guess it’s a part of survival instinct when you psyche shies away from the whole thing trying to save your sanity. I have no idea how the company does do that, especially James Norton, what a brave move for an actor to accept such a challenge.. Some mild spoilers might follow. I never read the book so I tried to build up some more of Malcom's and JB’s lives in my mind because I thought at some point these characters became a bit abandoned when the focus shifted entirely to Jude-Will relationship, which I found very moving indeed. I also don’t know whether any of this based on true events, but there are times of disbelief because it’s such an unthinkable trauma, the most brutal abuse at such young age that went on for years and years, THAT amount of trauma for one person, with a horrible impact on both mental and physical health and then when things are starting to get better (a thin chance, I was in tears overwhelmed with a feeling of joy for Jude who finally got to experience the loving kindness he deserved) and then there’s another hammer blow which is so unfair snd unnecessary.. I mean why as an author would you hate your characters so much? This made me very angry, maybe that was intentional.. I would deffo cut the last 10 minutes If I was in charge… As already stated, you cannot really ‘enjoy’ a show like this, but I’ll never regret I went even though it might be the most distressing thing I saw in theatre ever. And I’m afraid it will stay with me for a while…

Wow, so my second preview last night was indeed the first! I thought it was delightful (so did the audience - big cheers at the end, instant standing ovation) but I normally do like the sneak peak behind the stage and see how great things made out of blood, tears, slammed doors, good intentions and compromises. I’d say the show is in a very good shape but you’ll never know cause the most of it is about a rehearsal process anyway. And because of that there is a space for it to be growing, might even feel completely different by the closing night. Both leads are perfectly fitted for the part and playing off each other nicely: Mark Gatiss as ‘Sir John’ is gentle, sharp and highly intelligent, Johnny Flynn as ‘King Richard’ is conflicted by his own bloated ego and the strive to be truly great. A lot of Uncle Will related jokes from other plays that brought quite some chuckles in the auditorium. Mendes is theatrical as always, big gestures, but here it fits perfectly considering the subject matter. I found it too cold to wait by the Stage door but I do wish someone could tell Mark Gatiss that he should do more Shakespeare. Such rare talent to articulate it so clearly, pace it so well and feel every line so deeply it hurts. His ‘Speak the speech, I pray you’ is going to stay with me for quite some time.. As for running tome I was out by 10:15. I personally think you are particularly in for a treat with this show if you are into various interpretation of Shakespeare and like digging deep. Might be a miss for you if you don’t. I saw a couple beside me split in the interval, the husband went home cause he couldn’t stand this Shakespearean talk any longer, and the wife stayed only to enormously enjoy herself. She then said it might be because she brings him to too many shows

Jonjo O’Neill was amazing in the original production (it was like falling in love in real time) so it is a hard act to follow. It was exactly like that for me too! Jonjo is amazing, the other one that pops up to my mind is that little play about the director who want to capture the perfect light (forgot the name), at the Royal Court with Matt Smith some years back, when Mr O’Neil unexpectedly appeared from a random box lying on stage and everything after! Where is he now though? Haven’t seen him in anything in quite a while..

Is the stage particularly high for this at the Pinter? Got a seat in Stalls D (the only thing i could snap last minute), but really keen to participate in the lottery as well but worrying for my poor little neck… Also wondering are there any rumours/plans for filming it? Looks like it’s the hottest ticket in town and demand is not met even with extensions (god help the cast!)

My friend and I are planning to have a go at the returns queue on Monday after work. Has anyone had any luck with it? I'm not sure what time they start selling to the queue rather than online but I presume you just get offered tickets as they come up at their original price point and can accept/decline as you want? I'll probably be able to get there for about 5:30 as I work around Holborn so hopefully that will be early enough... Any insight gratefully received! Looks like they are selling last minute returns specifically to the returns queue. Showed up at 6.10 a couple of days ago and there was a front row seat available straight away. Maybe pure luck. Snapped it! I’m not the one for musicals usually, but that was just splendid!

What Rush seats for this are like? Anything at the front? Saw it back at Almeida, i think i would love to revisit and invite a friend, just looking for the better view for lesser price.
