Saw it Saturday night and thought it was fabulous. A tip-top production. Really, just go. Heartfelt, moving, beautiful and really brings Dickens' message to life so brilliantly. I would recommend to everybody with a pulse. I also paid £5 and sat in M40. I didn't know from the seating plan whether this single seat was totally on its own, or how it would work with the set. It turns out there are two seats next to where the actors enter/exit the stage, with the seat closest to these stairs (and next to me) being occupied by an usher/box office staff. Don't know if this just during previews or will be throughout the run. Can't imagine why Joe Public couldn't sit there. I was sat extremely close to the stage and at first thought Tiny Tim must have only been about four-years-old, but then I realised that he was an older child, perhaps with some sort of dwarfism. I have a relative that is 2 and a half years old, and I would say he was not much taller than her. I tried checking online but not much information, can someone confirm this for me? Obviously there are other Tims too. I thought he was a cracking young actor that gave a brilliant performance - he even moved my heart of stone to shed a tear at the end! The Tiny Tim I saw on Saturday liked my tweet, and having looked at his profile it would appear that he has cerebral palsy, so they seem to have deliberately cast young actors who have some kind of disability/illness

Saw the matinee today and absolutely loved it. Magical, emotional and lots of fun! Perfect use of music and very atmospheric use of lighting. Wonderful!

Interestingly it seemed to have mostly positive reviews during previews in Cape Town earlier this year, like this one weekendspecial.co.za/review-tiger-bay-musical/ I’m not sure what changes have been made to the show since then, if any! I know local bloggers tend to big up local productions but the response on Twitter from ‘normal’ theatregoers is very positive too I think if we're honest we all know that audiences outside of London and Broadway aren't used to the same standards. What we regulars may find an incredibly boring and deeply flawed show, people who don't go to the theatre often might find incredibly good. I guess that might be true for some, and I’m sure locals like me are enjoying some of the references more than someone not familiar with Cardiff would (for example, there are a couple of scenes in an independent Cardiff department store that closed about 10 years ago) As you said earlier in the thread, it’s just a shame that a new British musical isn’t getting better reviews. It has its flaws without a doubt, but I had a great evening watching it

Ah I didn’t mind the jokes but yes the colloquialisms did grate on me a little!

To give another perspective, I thoroughly enjoyed this last night. No it’s not perfect, yes it needs some editing and some of the dialogue was jarring (Ianto saying ‘Tidy’ in the early 1900s?!) but for me these were minor quibbles. I thought the score was beautiful and there were no weak links in the cast. It is long but I didn’t feel it dragged at all. I do agree that John Owen Jones deserves some bigger numbers to sing though!

Gosh this is making me realise how lucky I’ve been to work with people I consider friends. Whenever I’ve been upset at work I’ve always been glad that someone has been there to give a hug (although I completely understand that some people wouldn’t want to be touched)

I agree with all that’s been said, but although no one can deny that women are without a doubt the main victims of sexual abuse, we shouldn’t ignore the fact that some men are victims too, and when they do speak out about it are usually told to ‘man up’ or to take it as some kind of complement. Male victims should be encouraged to talk about their experiences just as much as female sufferers.

I saw it first via NT Live, and then on the recent tour at the WMC. I loved it both times. If I were to be very critical I’d say it’s maybe a tad too long, but the music and the cast were fantastic.

I don't actively seek out spoilers, but I'm not too bothered if I do come across them. I'm a bit bored of the results show pretending that it's Sunday when everyone knows it's prerecorded. I personally would prefer a shorter live results show later on Saturdays, but I know I might be in the minority there. It used to be didn't it? Or am I imagining that. I love the Sunday show which is why I'm never bothered about getting the spoiler. I agree though that the pretence is annoying. With everyone remembering to have to say 'last night' etc. The judges slip up sometimes. Ooh maybe you're right, I think I have some vague recollection! Yeah I like the Sunday show in general but it's just the pretence that's annoying as you said, especially when they don't bother to move the audience members around (although I know I'd hate to be moved if I were there!)

Is it just me or does this not make sense? You can hardly say someone's 'no stranger' to something if they haven't even had their debut yet? I'm aware that this is a strange thing to pick up on when the whole idea sounds awful...!

For GCSE we did The Merchant of Venice and An Inspector Calls, enjoyed both. For A Level we did Richard III (enjoyed but it did put me off reading anything that shows you a family tree at the beginning for a while), Doctor Faustus (teacher wasn't very good so never felt I understood/knew what was going on) and Othello, which I loved. As for school shows it was the usual, Annie, Oliver and so on.

It's not actually publically accesible so it's technically not possible to 'stage door' at the WMC Oh dear, isn't it? That is decidedly embarassing to read as I did stage door when I saw WNO's Kiss Me Kate there last December. No one told me I wasn't allowed to be standing there! I think it depends on the show. When they think there might be a lot of people wanting to go to the stage door, they usually have someone from security near the glass doors after the show stopping people from going through, but for others they don't bother!

harrie high fellow Cardiffian!! Very frustrating indeed. One friend with me knew the play through reading it so didn't lose too much, but the other didn't know it at all so very frustrating indeed!! I do want to complain to the Odeon just to make the point that maybe someone should be keeping a closer eye on things. Sigh. p.s say hi next week if you see me! Hello! *waves* I didn't know the play at all either so it was irritating to miss parts. I agree it's worth mentioning to the Odeon, if they have any sense there'll be someone keeping an eye at next week's screening as it'll be mostly (if not exactly) the same people watching! I'll keep an eye out for you!

Ok I've no idea what thread this should be in but this is close enough..."Bad behaviour by a cinema" maybe. NT Live screening. Angels. Act 1 picture cuts out for a bit, sound carries on. It happens sometimes. Went on a bit long and they flashed up their odeon logo for about 3 minutes and then picked up. Bit rubbish but technical hitches happen, and the sound/picture was perfect again after so one of those things. Act 2, happens again. Well that's a bit rubbish maybe someone should be paying attention. Blank screen flicks off and the whatever you call it 'place card' for 'Planet of the Apes' flashes up. No. No really? Yes, Planet of the Apes is playing. Meanwhile Angels sound is still playing. The hotdog scene. For me, forever more 'Reagan's Children' are now Apes. The cinema did give us all vouchers for a free visit and apologised. Which...fine it was a bit funny if frustrating. Even more amused that I'd been winding my friend up beforehand singing the Planet of the Apes song from 'The Simpsons' at her which added an unfortunate second level to our giggles. I was at the same screening! Like you said, initially quite funny but also frustrating, I've never seen Angels before and it was impossible to concentrate on the dialogue in that scene. I did appreciate the voucher though, at least I'll get to watch Part 2 for free!

My mum went to see this at the Cardiff New Theatre last night and due to cast illness there were 3 characters reading from scripts! Obviously these things happen but no explanation was given at the start of the show, they only found out why when they asked someone from Front of House at the interval!

I was at the matinee on Saturday too. I actually found it difficult to hear Daniel Radcliffe occasionally rather than Claudius, but it wasn't a major problem at all. Enjoyed it immensely!

I haven't gone to many stage doors but Kit Harington after Doctor Faustus last year was particularly patient and kind to everyone waiting.
