One song I love this time of year is Otis Redding's version of White Christmas, it's not played all that much, but I love it (he's one of my favourite artists).
I also love Darlene Love's All Alone at Christmas and Baby Please Come Home.
There's usually a thread with Christmas TV musicals and performances (ballets and such) is there one this year?

I agree with poster J, Hamilton pretty much has to be on any list, I think it has to be THE musical of the decade because it was such a zeitgeist that so many people who had no interest in musical theatre were engaged with it, listened to the album, learnt it word for word. As good as any other musical is, there is no other that's captured as many people in this way or even come close in the past ten years.

I just bought my tickets, there was a good offer on, some of the tickets are heavily discounted so they were £108 and they're £50 on Londontheatredirect and I got two tickets in row C dress circle.
I'm looking forward to this, I'm hoping for old fashioned, cheesy musical that's easy to watch. And Claire tapping, what's not to love?

This was always going to be a hard sell in November. I think the ticket prices have dropped a bit I first looked but are still higher than most current musicals. I saw White Christmas at the Curve Leicester last December, where it was a near sell-out, and it is a great production which will hopefully benefit from positive reviews and word of mouth once it opens. I just booked a front row £85 seat for £49.50 - it's a must-see with Clare Halse plus Dan Burton. I had the whole of the front two rows to choose from ! I really can't believe the prices, two seats where I usually like to sit are £300. That's a lot, you can go away for that, this is a 2.5 hour show. It's no wonder some shows are struggling to shift tickets, who can really afford a large family outing and justify it? The money can be spent with more value for the time it consumes.

What implies a second-classness? That's the value YOU choose to give it. Plenty of alternates take over at some point. Think of it as being able to see them early. No, I'm never one to care that much, I went to see Natasha Barnes in Funny Girl a few times because I loved her in the role. But a lot of people do want to see the main cast at some time, and some of those can only attend a matinee, so it stands to reason the main cast should perform in matinees to not do a disservice to those shows.

Why can’t people do 8 shows a week anymore? He’s been trained to do that and once the score is vocally set in his mind/body/voice box he will be fine. Drama school students belt their lungs out for 10 hours a day! Why shouldn't they have alternates? Give two people a chance in the role and help preserve both of them (vocals and energy wise) for longer so they aren't damaging their careers long-term. It makes complete sense in more ways than one. True, but taking off all matinees implies they are the second class tickets, and they shouldn't be. A lot of people can't go out so late, some have to travel back to where they live etc, so the main cast should do some matinees.

Oh wow, I was already going to this, I thought it would be nice and festive, but now Clare is involved, I really can't wait. She wowed me in 42nd Street, I thought she was the most talented leading lady at work on the West End at that time.
Can't wait now!

Six price £25 reduced to £20 with Encore or theatreticketsdirect.co.uk. A33 is about the only ticket at that price, so it may well have gone, though. Thank you TM!

I’ve been wanting to see the show for a while so a big thanks to @theatremonkey for the info on your site for the ticket offer in September. I’ve managed to nab the A33 Dress Circle seat for £20 for a Wednesday night as part of a WE theatre week I am currently finalising for the end of September. The savings made will be going in purchasing some of the 🥧 that are on sale (well it would rude not to). What offer is this please and what dates? I can't seem to find it, perhaps I've missed it though.

Hmm, interesting, can't imagine I'll go and watch it in the cinema. I mean the thing that stuck out for me the most is that the sizes of the cats don't seem quite right in Trafalgar Square compared to the rest of the stuff in the trailer, I'd better not watch it if that's what I've taken from the trailer. (Never been a Cats fan though, was just a little curious). For me, it looked like the sizing/scale of them is off for most of it, sometimes they look small, other times larger, it's something that bothered me too. It just looks awful visually, they all look terrifying, not that cat like to justify the CGI, why not just have them in costume? Some things are made just for the stage, not the screen, here seems to be a perfect example. Who asked for this?

I may be being stupid, but I really can't find where people are watching the performances from the Tonys. Someone help a girl out please? Instagram had a lot of them if you do a search for the name of the show, they should come up on there.

I'm thinking of giving this a go. Has anyone been in the dress boxes? Are they any good? Think you'd only miss the extreme sides. I'd go for the boxes on the right as you look at the stage, this way you'll see the 'kitchen' part of the set and just miss where the band come on and off sometimes. If you sit in the boxes on the left whilst looking at the stage you'll get a clear view of the band, but nothing else happens here. As opposed to a few bits and bobs taking place in the kitchen. Thank you, and theatremonkey, I posted this and then was taken ill and forgot all about it and tickets, only today when I thought about them again did I remember! So sorry if I appeared rude. So, would that be boxes C and D?

but if she was really being so badly treated, would she really agree to come back? £££££ - bills have to be paid! Sure, but if she and the cast can understand this, then they must be able to see the same is true for the show.

I was meaning that, perhaps I got it wrong. It did seem a little sly, it's in the tweet that Ashley is joining too and he doesn't even mention her. Even if it is just as you say, it still seems a little off not to say welcome to Ashley at all. I don't follow them at all, have any of the cast welcomed her at all? I personally didn't read anything sly in there, I just saw it as a joke about the fact that he has actually performed with her in the role already. As for other cast members welcoming her, no idea, I don't follow any of them apart from Lucie. See, at first I didn't know the backstory of them being on together already (I don't follow the news of this show) and read it as him only welcoming Lucie. But still, why not say a quick welcome to Ashley too? But I could have read the wrong things into it.

I really feel sorry for Ashley, she didn't ask for this, and the *adults* in this need to get a grip and act their age and welcome her to the cast too. How pathetic to leave her out in a welcome to the cast tweet, it just seems petty, and any logical person would understand it's not her fault, so there's no need to be mean to Ashley, she didn't ask for this. If you're referring to David Hunter's tweet with this, I don't think this was in any way, shape or form aimed at Ashley or trying to exclude her, but basically taking the piss out of the 'Lucie has been on stage with me for almost a week and we're not allowed to talk about it' situation, with the announcement just saying she is joining the cast next month. If you're referring to something else, just ignore me. :-) I was meaning that, perhaps I got it wrong. Honestly, if it's really doing as bad as people here say it is, and it won't still be running by the time Ashley's contract has run, then they shouldn't be complaining as this may mean they'll be keeping their jobs.
Ashley seems like a really lovely person who seems to suffer bad luck. The way the public responded to her in SCD was awful when all she had the audacity to do was dance to an exceptional standard.
Waitress hasn't seemed like my thing, however I heard She Used to be Mine on something and loved the song so decided to give this a go soon, now Ashley is in it I'll watch her as I'm interested in how she'll do in a WE show.

I ‘may’ pop to Sainsburys for a Halloumi breakfast in the morning, but neither Nicole nor Ewan will be there to drippily whisper/belt their throat out to ‘Come What May’. I shall need signed documents from Baz himself before the required bit of rude wee leaks out at this frankly marvellous news. Please let it be so!!! I want it to be so, but let's be honest, we've been burned before. I remember around the end of last year when there was an absolutely positive thread with news of Hello Dolly coming here this summer was a guarantee. Well, I can't see it in the West End.

I've got to admit I'm a bit disappointed! I was hoping it would be more like the live shows they did last year and next month at Radio City with the whole cast. Yes, me too. I loved the live show on Netflix and was so hoping for a longer version of that. I suppose it was difficult to get all of them over to London.

The finale was really fitting.
The live show bonus was really good, the time flew by and I was wishing it was longer. Good to hear it's coming to the UK, but imagine tickets will be pretty hard to get.

I've seen her a few times and she never seems to speak much sense on anything, but she has absolutely nothing to do with the theatre. I can only imagine it'll be a huge disaster, she won't know any of the winners or even anything about the show they were in. Why on Earth was she booked? I don't know...I just follow her on Instagram etc and she seems a nice enough person is all I was saying! But i never recall her even GOING to the theatre! there's a tonne of cool actors who could have done it (Scott Paigely and Dan Buckley have a cool youtube channel where they chat theatre, Geogrie Ashford the same, all of whom could have offered genuine theatre commentary) Oh, I wasn't having a go at you, but what were they thinking? From what I've seen of her, and I did watch some of her YT videos a while back when I was ill and fell down a YT rabbit hole, she seems to turn everything into her and a bit of a fuss of herself. I think she sort of thinks of herself as a bit of a Miranda and thinks herself hilarious if it all goes wrong. I follow a girl who talks about books but she often talks about shows she has been to and has expressed interest in plays and musicals.

I've seen that they have a Youtuber, Louise something, interviewing them afterwards, instead of , you know, anybody who would know anything about the theatre. I can only imagine what a hot mess that will be, but OK. Louise Pentalnd, who I actually quite like, but i was so angry about that. Yes we all moan about CHF but at least she knows what's she talking about! I thought it looked a bit lost too, and wondered what size theatre it’s in on Broadway. I’m going to be a grump now, (because having seen two other excellent shows this weekend they’ve shown up Waitress significantly) but the whole pie thing. Now don’t get me wrong, I love me a pie. But the pie thing seemed to take more precedence than any other thing in the story. Ok she made pies in a diner, great, but did EVERYthing in the story have to go through the pie treatment? I was sick of pies by the interval and positively queasy by the end. Enough of the pies FFS. I liked Dr Vomiter though, he was well cute and I liked the gurning. I think it could be something lost in translation a bit. I think on the whole, Americans just love pie and it's symbolic of being American and goes hand in hand with patriotism. It's a big thing for them, us, not so much. The more I read, the more I know this just isn't for me. On the whole I find the whole thing to be a bit 'blah'.

Hello! I want to get a ticket for this for my July theatre weekend. the website says "government issued photo ID" must be produced to claim the ticket at the box office. I don't drive, and haven't travelled abroad in over 10 years, so my passport is out of date. What have people here been showing at the box office to get their tickets? If you look like your old passport just use that one, they don't need to be in date. I have a free travelcard, do you have anything like that? They took my travelcard for me.

I mean,it's not a big deal, and I wasn't wanting to criticise admin or anything.
It's just the other thread disappeared as there was no confirmation and this one ran on and on, and still is (although I have no issue with it) even though it seems as if it's not happening at all.

So it's a no then?
Have to say, I'm quite disappointed as it was the only thing I was looking forward to this year.
I'm also surprised the thread was allowed to stay open for so long, and for it to then to create so much false hope and speculation. I remember a thread last year that said the show was going into The Palladium, that thread was gone within a couple of hours, I don't really see the difference between the two of them, and why this one has been allowed to run like this for so long with no confirmation at all.

I assume the holier than thou people here always read every single bit of fine print in every terms and conditions they ever receive for every aspect of their life. Considering the inconsistencies with show websites, it's not fair to assume everyone would know to check a website as not all shows list holiday and cast into. Plus many people just book though agents that email them And even after you have booked it's liable to change, as happened last year with Kelli in The King and I, people had already checked the holiday dates and then more were added on. I'm still none the wiser if we're getting Bette or not!
