Cuba doing some singing on Graham Norton right now.......... This has actually put me off seeing it until he leaves... although I found him incredibly irritating throughout.

Hoorah! There had better be some Jonny B action there. I’m hoping so too. I’ve had to give up my tickets to The York Realist because of other plans and was looking forward to seeing what all the fuss was about.

Just booked £15 seats for a March date for Macbeth. Oddly I just had an advert on my Facebook that was advertised as extra £15 tickets for sold out performances and when I clicked on it it took me to the NT’s site with quite a bit of availability on pretty much all dates. Rather odd.

I wonder how ticket sales are for the returning Amadeus ? I mean I wonder how many performances they can do before everyone who really wanted to see last time has seen it this time and audiences drop off. For the random dates I looked at just now, the central block in the stalls has sold well but there is lots of availability in the side blocks of the stalls and in the circle. Includes good availability for this week so this is not the sell-out it was last time. I would expect offers to start popping up. So the answer to "how many performances" is however many they did last time round. I don't have a problem with them reviving their own shows - particularly this and Follies where the resources and staging would make it difficult for a West End theatre. While I did say I agree with it earlier, the only thing I would say is that I don’t necessarily agree with it something being a Travelex production one year and then coming back the following year at non-Travelex prices, as has been the case for Amadeus (and probably the reason seats are still available). Presumably (particularly for both Amadeus and Follies which had appeals for extra funding) most of that investment was recouped in that initial run and therefore they don’t have the added expense of set builds etc second time around, and have even less of an excuse of putting up the prices.

I can’t say I have too much of a problem with it as long as it doesn’t get out of hand, but I think a single revival of an earlier production during this time of year when people need dragging out of their homes isn’t a bad idea if it then helps fund new works at other points.

Saw this tonight. Well it’s a bit good ain’t it. I wasn’t in the pit and I was kind of glad not to be. I felt that it gave me a better view away from the distraction of being herded around. Loved the staging - really showed off what an exciting venue this is. And as others have said Michelle Fairley is the highlight. Didn’t mind Ben Whishaw but there were a couple of points when I could just see Paddington walking around the stage.
Oh and I was in Gallery C67. Anyone around there prepare yourself for a banging door all the way through. It was somewhere underneath and behind us so I’m assuming there’s a door actors and crew were using to get on and off the stage floor.

I'm super early, but hey I'm bored...
What should be on my radar for a late June trip. Bearing in mind that time is slightly limited by *cough* two full days of *cough* a certain play.
Anyway...go! Ooo this is handy. I’m there end of June too and can make use of all of the recommendations now.

I am still hoping for Ramin Karimloo. I am not sure that Tim Minchin is a good enough actor or singer and Groban is just a bit vanilla vocally. At his concert there was an ENO Chess sized gap in his future plans (Chess concert in the US early in the year and Che in Japan in the Summer) and he seems to be planning to stay in the UK..... His 'Anthem' is so good, even with a banjo. Ooo Ramin! Good shout!

Saw this tonight. It was my first Annie Baker play and I have to say I was pretty captivated. Like others have said I’m not sure I understood everything but there was something quite beautiful about the silence and slowness of it.
Sight lines from Circle stage right are pretty shocking as a fair bit happens on that side of the stage that can’t be seen at all. I’m assuming the opposite side has the same problem too. That said, for this it didn’t bother me too much because it felt in keeping with the dialogue that was done out of sight in other scenes.

Surely (bar Hamilton of course) these ridiculous prices are just going to make people not want to go to these shows when they can go literally next door to Mamma Mia or 42nd Street at a much cheaper price? Well that doesn’t really seem to be the case looking at how well this is selling. Pretty much every weekend has limited availability with a handful of seats left. Even if they are keeping some back it looks popular.

Saw this tonight. It had a handful of moments that felt like there was something decent lurking in the text but it just didn’t all hang together very well. Liked Poots, Norton was OK.

I did enjoy the show, but I didn't leave as aglow as I've been known to after something really special. A good four stars. The cast impressed. Every named character could easily hold the stage, A good bit of attitude on Washington and Mulligan, Jamael had a real sense of heft and stature, a face fit for a banknote (very impressive given his age). It felt fresh, and it felt fun - it wasn't a production swallowed by its own worthiness. The major plot points were well-emphasised, though some of the finer points were a bit lost in the rush. I still don't think it's Lin's best score - some of the themes are well-developed, but it suffers from repetition. More variety in tone would have been welcome. And as good as Room Where It Happens is, I didn't find that truly ecstatic show-stopper anywhere. The seat report from E21, dead centre in the Royal Circle, is of a pretty much flawless view, and a less painful seat than I was expecting. There wasn't room to stretch, and muscles tired a little, but it wasn't painful. At 6'2", I could just bring my legs together at the centre, with a whole 2cm left infront of me. The worst part of it was the bitchy glances from the woman infront any time there was the lightest (unavolidable!) brush against the back of her seat. And whilst I don't think I share the same taste in interior decor as Cam Mac, it was lovely to be in such a fresh looking auditorium, and a venue that smells of new carpet. Largely sums up how I felt about it last night. Very enjoyable but a solid 4 star production for me.

They’ve probably done it temporarily to force people to buy the more expensive tickets Or they've realised the pit isnt big enough and the need to secure even more space for the set. I was referring to the part about the rear of the circle...

Hello all. I really hope everyone is having a great festive season. I have been curious about this so thought it may be worth starting a new thread. I have recently seen Dick Whittington in London and Sleeping Beauty in Glasgow. Both are Qdos pantos which use The Twins FX for a similar flying vehicle illusion before the interval. I have found these to be very cool (depending on where you are sitting) but do know the obvious method to pull off the effect. Does anybody know how the 'Fanny the Wonderbike' effect is achieved? Is this in a similar way? And Amanda Holden appearing to fly wireless!? I'm very interested. The Amanda Holden flying was definitely done with an arm that was attached to the back of her. From my seat in the upper circle (once my eyes had adjusted) I could see the arm and the crew moving it from side to side. It’s a very cool effect though. I have a feeling they are all pretty much done the same way - Just with different set pieces attached to the various crane arms

Which dates are you seeing it on? I looked at the last week of July and it’s not on sale then either. I’ve not found any dates with availability at the back. Just had a look at website and yes, seems to have disappeared again. Interestingly the first three rows of the stalls have also been taken off sale in their entirety for all dates - bit odd! Also lots of them have already been sold so not sure what sense it takes removing the rest of them. Strange! They’ve probably done it temporarily to force people to buy the more expensive tickets

So I wondered this. It is on sale after the preview period though. I have no idea why! Could they be refurbing it? Have to say is a very long way from the stage there. Sat in the very back row for Elf (owing to the insane prices); have to say even that wasn't worth it for that show! Which dates are you seeing it on? I looked at the last week of July and it’s not on sale then either. I’ve not found any dates with availability at the back.

Have looked to see if anyone has commented on this but can't find anything - do we know why the back section of the circle is not on sale at all? Was looking to bag a cheap seat just to see what it's like.

I just booked this too. I hope the casting is good too but I'm looking forward to seeing it regardless.
Out of interest, does anyone know how you book slips and boxes on the ENO website? I just booked through Ticketmaster for the Dress Circle slips which seem like a good deal (compared to the other prices in there...) - went to check on the ENO website to see how I missed them when I was looking at prices previously, and I couldn't find any evidence of them anywhere.

Can't be Sheridan then if it opens on the 26th of March, she'll be getting ready for her tour. Good - more chance of me going to it if it isn’t her.

Well according to the beginning of this thread baz announced dick Whittington 22nd Dec last year so guessing this week or next. Qdos have gradually been announcing their shows for 2018 over last couple of weeks, usually around the time the 2017 show opens I just checked and I booked my tickets for this on the 16th December last year so tonight could be very possible! Scrap that! 26th December!

Wonder when they’ll confirm next year’s panto (I’m right in saying it was a three year deal wasn’t it?). I’m pretty sure Dick Whittington was announced very early in the Cinderella run last year because I more or less booked as soon as I had seen it.

I’m very surprised by the negativity too. It’s very inconsistent and doesn’t know what it is, but it still flew by and does have some poignant moments that make the trip worthwhile. In regards the music, I actually think that a large part of it is that people are going in expecting a full musical and it’s very clearly not that. They may have set the scene better had they not bothered with the Disney music and just done original music to fit the tone (instead the music is a bit wedged in).
The stage does look bare but then I think that’s a combination of Crowley (he often seems to put a lot of effort into one or two scenes and leave the rest simpler) and Tiffany’s usual style not quite working on the expanse that is the Lyttelton stage (I feel like the staging would have felt a little less cold if they’d narrowed the proscenium a touch).
If I was to score it myself it would get a 3 stars, and I’ve definitely seen far more uneven productions get 3 stars from critics and comparative praise on here.

Also, there was a fox and a cat? (I think its a cat) who convince Pinocchio to run away and be an actor. The fox is included, the cat is not. In a nice little nod, the fox does have a cat on the top of his walking stick. Interesting the lack of love for the human puppets. Wonder if being in row B of the stalls helped me like them more. I felt like I was looking up at them as though I was part of Pinocchio's world - which is presumably the effect it was trying to achieve. At least that's what I took from it because when the blue fairy is then in Pinocchio's world she is more of a similar size to him. Overall I barely even looked at the human actor underneath.

Is there any secret to finding this view? Ticketmaster always redirects me to it selecting seats for me and I can’t work out how to switch it to a pick your own option. I was wondering the same! Only seems to work in Firefox on my Mac
