Oh I thought she was a terrific Lovett, and whilst I did enjoy elements of her Sally, I just never thought she was right for it at all

Oh no, you really didn't like it? Not at all. Self-indulgent garbage. But each to their own! 😁 Correct!

Louise Dearman would make a gorgeous Irene Malloy... I think Jenna Russell mentioned on her Cadogan Hall concert that she was involved in this. Maybe for this role? I have seen the film but don't remember much to be honest. She was signed up to play Irene before, which made absolutely no sense. The time between her originally being announced and actually doing it will be 5 years, so one would hope that they'll decide to recast as she was too old to begin with and will be far too old by the time we get there.

she is an amazing actress having seen her in Gypsy and Sweeney. I expect her to make a great Dolly. I really don't think she would do it if she knew she couldn't pull it off. She didn't follies and she wasn't right for that role either...

Absolutely a good producer Jan and if you promise he won't direct a show on any of the three stages, I'll join you in your campaign!

Can only assume Dunster is about to become this decade's Jamie Lloyd - deeply average director who just inexplicably continues to get work in prestigious houses Jamie Lloyd at least has an artistic vision for his productions. Dunster's work is just straight up pathetic - no vision and no sense of rhythm, dramatic insight and god awful at casting. I mean I'll sound like a broken record on this but Lloyd's artistic vision is always at the sacrifice of the material - never feels like he cares about the piece he's directing and is just keen to throw his 'style' at it, whether it warrants it or not.

Telegraph, Stage, Evening Standard all 4s...
Without a soaring tenor as Von Trapp (Ovenden), SOM is probably a 4 star musical if you don't try to reinvent the wheel, which they evidently haven't.

Both have been recently involved in theatre shows (though not as actors)

I hope as many of the original people attached to this return as possible actually.
Whilst the idea of Jenna Russell as Irene Malloy Still baffles me, Harry Hepple, Tyrone Huntley and Clare Halse as Cornelius, Barnaby and Minnie would be an absolute delight!

Returned to this last night, for the first time since the first preview.
I really believe this is the best show on in London right now. The staging is just brilliant, and they've properly got it down to a fine art now in terms of crowd control and enjoyment.
Was pushed to go yesterday as Daniel Mays has three months off from now and I wanted a friend to see him. Still a great performance. We had full cast apart from Celinde, and I liked Charlotte Scott's Sarah Brown (although she didn't go quite as wild as Celinde does at Havana). Marisha just gets better and better - it's a very different Adelaide to what we are used to, but I think it works so well (still prefer an older Adelaide but she's fabulous). Her 'Take Back Your Mink' is one of the highlights of the show. Andrew Richardson continues to be a revelation, I just LOVE him as Sky.
But the show is still absolutely stolen by Sit Down You're Rocking The Boat, and the vocal gymnastics of Cedric Neal. I do wish they had more room for more inventive choreography but it is what it is. If I could bottle the joy that the audience feels when Cedric is singing his way through the two encores and the whole 'standing' audience is dancing away, I would - it's theatrical heaven and leaves everyone ecstatic like few things do.
In short, I could go every week. It's a brilliant production of the greatest musical comedy ever written. Packed to the rafters, and long may it continue.

She role shared with Alex Young because she was pregnant before starting rehearsals (and essentially I think did the show until she was 7 months pregnant) - it wasn't for any other reason.
The following year she then went on tour with the show for 5 months.
I think she'd manage a London run just fine - in fact it would be easier than what she's already done.

This is not uncommon. Moulin Rouge was a week into rehearsals before we got any casting announcements from them. I wouldn't panic just yet.

I'm really interested in how the cinema releases of this goes actually.
It's pretty likely that more of the audience will end up having a visceral reaction to it than they're experiencing live actually, as so much more of the audience will be able to see it in close up, rather that the relatively small number of people in the Harold Pinter and the Savoy who are up close enough.
I do financially understand why they're doing it, but it's gonna be a really tricky one for venues to manage properly.

It worked really well as a 1 hour show at Vaults, but it's expanding has been nothing but detrimental to the original piece.

Shows do this all the time - Kinky Boots did a cast change in September and then announced closing for the January.
They will have needed to recast because people will have come to the end of contracts...

If the cast on the website is the full list, this will be a very small affair. They usually are a cast of 6, some double casting, but they're a really great company who I've seen lots of productions from.

They tried this with I Can't Sing when X factor was at its peak which was literally the X Factor Musical with Simon as a character.
It lost 5 million pounds. I'm out.
