Whaaaa! How? Didn't you wonder why no one really left? And why act two had an interval? And how the plot had progressed without explaining anything? I feel sorry for you but not sure how it's only just clicked! Yes. I feel horrible that I only had this terrible realisation an hour ago. We saw people leaving and just assumed it was the end of Part One. We felt it was an odd ending but left the theatre regardless. Then that evening when Part Two began, we felt odd that the start was straight into the Alternate Universe with Scorpius and Umbridge. We flew into London the night before so perhaps the lack of parts clicking together can be attributed to jetlag. Just can't believe it, really. It's just a shame that the next time I see it, some of the cast will have changed, and I'll never have that proper first time full experience. That's the most gut-wrenching part. However, even given that we missed Part One Act II, even though I was unsure of a few bits that characters were referring to, the overall plot was easy enough to follow. Gosh, so sorry for you.

Edited to add: Oh. My. God. I finally realised why I thought scenes were missing. It's because I missed them entirely! During Part One, my boyfriend and I left at the end of Part One, Act I without realising it was just the interval! Oh. My. Goodness. This is horrible. I recall thinking it was a weird way to end Part One, because as it turns out, it wasn't bloody finished!! And it also explains a lot. Whelp. I definitely need go back watch it all properly. What a terrible mistake. Definitely need a Time-Turner now. ARGHHHHHHH. Whaaaa! How? Didn't you wonder why no one really left? And why act two had an interval? And how the plot had progressed without explaining anything? I feel sorry for you but not sure how it's only just clicked!

I may become as hated as you-know-who, but was placed 194 in the Nimax queue on my Microsoft Edge browser (had Chrome & Explorer open too, each browser on a Nimax & ATG tab). Least of other queues is 2,900 Nimax on Chrome, most is 37,500 ATG on Chrome. Joined all queues between 10.55am - 11am. Got into my Nimax queue on Microsoft Edge just before 11.10am. Given 5 mins to complete each page. Couldn't book anything earlier than May 2017 through Nimax. Wanted to go for a Sunday as, being an actor, that seemed the safest choice not knowing what my employment status will be in May 2017! Even changed my mind from 1 ticket to each part to 2 tickets for each part (to have someone to share it with!) and that didn't make a difference. Even forgot my password to my Nimax account, got the reminder email and logged back in and the tickets were still there. So a very happy bunny! Offered centre of Row E of the Balcony - pretty happy with that, sure it'll be a clear view & I've no problems with heights. And at £20 a part, can't complain! My own decision not to want to spend any more than that per part so knew what the outcome was going to be! See you at the Palace in May 2017! Happy at least one of us were successful! Fingers crossed for the rest of us haha!

I keep my tickets in a photograph album and I use the same vertical filing system as the Monkey.

Kevinuk I'm one of those people. It felt so overwrought. I didn't like the portrayal of Hagrid either which didn't help. Nobody I was with could make out what he said, and it turned what was quite a touching moment straight off with his bumbling around, in my opinion. On top of all that it was completely unnecessary in the context of the rest of the play. But I'm glad you got more out of it than I did! Sorry, but the bits in bold make me laugh - it's exactly why Umbridge wanted to fire poor Hagrid in book 5! I actually think it was one of the most touching moments of the entire play. We go from something incredibly, incredibly sad, to a scene we all know took place but never before witnessed - Hagrid rescuing a baby Harry Potter. What he says is pure Hagrid. I've not revisited the scene in the text just yet, but it's a scene all about how Harry is going to have a tough life, but Hagrid is determined to be his friend - whether Harry likes it or not. To me it's a bittersweet scene designed to take the sting out of the double murder scene - but it's a moment of light, a moment of genuine kindness towards a child in his moment of need. Plus as a fan, it adds an element to Hagrid's backstory on why he was instantly Harry's friend from the very start of book 1. Hagrid always was a gentle giant with a big heart, and he brings it in this scene when Harry needs it most. I love it., When I saw it, quite soon into previews it felt exactly as Andrew described. For me we didn't need that moment right after what we'd just witnessed. Even though we knew what happened that night, you steel were reeling from seeing it played out the way they do on stage. This sounds weird but it actually felt good to be in that moment of despair and it felt snatched away to quickly. Both Hagrid moments stuck out for me as something that could/might be improved as they all grew into their characters.

That's Curve productions for you! They always have to change the original show. I don't understand why they can't just keep to the orginal show/set half the time, especially when it is good in the 1st place! Weren't most of these changes done before the Curve production though?

But I'd much rather see musical theatre stars in musicals, strangely enough. Especially in such a vocal heavy show where just being able to carry a tune isn't going to be enough.

I'd have thought that on the touring circuit, the 'Ghost' brand was enough to flog tickets without them feeling the need to cast it the way they have. In fact, they could have just stunt/star cast the Oda Mae character and that'd be enough if they wanted to go down this route. Let's hope we're all pleasantly surprised by their ability, but I'm not expecting much.
What a shame.

I saw this last night and absolutely loved it! I came out with a proper buzz and a big smile on my face.
It was a joy to see Andy Karl on stage again having seen him a couple of times on Broadway. You do see him go through that journey, his comic timing is superb and he's got a great voice.
The cast work their asses off in this and it really pays off. It looks great and each ensemble member has their little quirks and characterisations which makes it fun to watch. I guess they might not even be referred to as ensemble if a lot of them are named characters in the programme!
Whilst I'm on the subject of the programme, what's with the lack of head shots! Really bothered me especially as I'm not fantastic with remembering names etc! Boo!
The much discussed song at the beginning of act two was great! Don't see the big deal seeing as lots of sub characters get their little moments, she's got a great voice so why not! On that note, I was surprised they gave a solo to Andrew Langtree. I wasn't a massive fan of him in when I saw him in Ghost but thought his character in this was played well but he's got quite a weak voice but the song itself was quite nice and he just about pulled it off.
I must say I felt sorry for the cast in this heat AND under a lighting rig walking around in thick winter clothing, a lot of sweat from the get go from a lot of them!
I loved the design of the show, so many clever bits of staging and set design and the lighting was great. I thought Andy's voice was a little lost in the sound mix when everyone was singing which I'm sure is still being tweaked.
All in all a great night out, one of the best things I've seen in ages. Tim Minchin is a very clever man! I'd love to see it have a life after the Old Vic!

it seems that all the posts that state that this is a semi staged production do so because hand held microphones are being used. but that is how it was originally done, 12 hand held microphones with LEADS thus meaning the whole thing had to be staged with cable management in mind. At least today there is the option of hand held radio microphones cutting this problem down. it is a fantastic score with probably the best lyrics from Tim Rice, it is a kind of hybrid between a theatre show and a rock concert hence why it is being presented this way in the park. I think the issue is, having seen some spectacular and ingenious uses of space at this venue, to do a gig style show seems a bit of a waste/odd choice.

I'm glad the cast seem to be up to the job as there's nothing worse than having a score you love, ruined. The production itself seems like a missed opportunity to do something creative with this unique space?

I've always wondered how some of these shows don't have alternates. It's wrecked/halted careers of some! True. I read a rumour that Nikki Davis-Jones ruined her voice on the tour and now she can't sing professionally anymore. Don't know if it's true though I believe it is true. We Will Rock You was another one that wasn't kind to a few leads!

Having been part of the technical team that put it all together, I really enjoyed watching this programme. It was the most incredible event I've ever been involved with and will never forget it. The whole of London 2012 was just magical. Wish I could re-live it every year!

Seeing both parts this Saturday can't wait! Would I be right to think the 4th film would be the most important to watch before going? I read all the books just under a year ago and have seen the films various times but won't manage to watch all of the films in order before I go as planned. Would hate to have forgotten a part of the story that is crucial to the play. You'd be correct. I actually watched it a few days after I went as I thought it'd add a new dimension to it.

Was there not that show with Cliff Richard? Was it called Heathcliff? Of Wathering Heights fame? It was before my time here in London but I have seen the poster/image for it somewhere There was a musical called 'Time' which was on at the Dominion. He was in that.

I was there. Thought the cast was very good. Not totally sure about the production. I usually like Drew McOnie's choreography but I felt there was too much of it in there. It was almost a bit distracting at times. Declan is very "folksy" as Jesus which works for me. Adored his Gethsemane. Tyrone is a great Judas in my opinion. Especially loved David's Pilate too. It's definitely a very gig-like production. I felt like I was watching a concert and not a musical at times. The characters sometimes appeared a bit disconnected to me - the acting was good but due to the concert-like staging I was missing interaction between the characters during some songs. Overall I enjoyed it for what it is. However, so much glitter. I've never seen such a glittery JCS in my life! Thanks for the review Steffi! I'm taking my mother who brought me up on JCS so am anxious about this production.
