Wicked is basically everything you mentioned in your post above and that's done just fine... Yes, but Hamilton is based literally on the guy that founded America. Wicked is based on a fantasy book that reels from another book and, to an extent movie, that are some of the most popular books and movies out there. It had a basis for its popularity here. What I was suggesting is are people gonna want to see a musical about the guy who founded America?
And it is not me saying it won't be popular or successful, I am under no disillusion that it won't be. I just don't think it will be as big as some has been suggesting.
The basis of Wicked's popularity here WAS the hype from across the pond. Same with Mormon. I can promise you, the excitement and hype of it coming over wasn't because there was a new musical about some characters from the Wizard of Oz.

Just asking, after seeing stage doors for Doctor Faustaus, Savoy theatre stage door isn't that big for Sheridan, is it? I don't think I could do that through those crowds Out of interest, George, do you actually know where the SD is at the Savoy? I only ask as it isn't obvious but I'd say there's a large amount of space. It also has the advantage of not being on a main road.

GOD Running on Broadway A 2 year minimum contract in Chicago And a US tour All prior to the WE opening This show is gonna lose its shine well before coming to London By super saturating the market with itself I assure you It's gonna be a different story entirely in London I never thought I would say this, but Parsley does slightly have a point. I think it will succeed, but at the same time, the hype has been so much that there must be a point where people become sick and tired of it surely? Already has built in fan girls that are already gonna annoy the hell outta people because of the Cast Recording and the show itself.
It will likely be sold out for 6 months from opening even if the prices are insane. actually don't think it will be as big a hit as everyone is predicting. It is such an American story, I don't quite know if it will hit the same marks here as it does in the US. That said the music is great, and I am looking forward to seeing it, but also apprehensive because I don't know if it will live up to the hype it has gained and will be very disappointed if it doesn't.
Wicked is basically everything you mentioned in your post above and that's done just fine...

Are we assuming that Natasha will be attached to it? Especially as they've already got press sound bites they could sell it with. Or will it need another 'Name' to sell it with?

I have a feeling that Sabrina Aloueche might have been cast as Molly.

Really sad about this. They gave me my first opportunity when I was breaking into the industry and I got to work with some amazing people. Hopefully they'll find a good space to continue the Landor name.

Great news. Interestingly, Sonia Friedman Productions had plans to do a whole load of things down Charring Cross road and to the Phoenix to make it like a wedding party leading to the theatre for Bend it Like Beckham but never got their act together to get planning permission in time for press night so never bothered in the end.

Tonight's show was brilliant, reminds me why I love it so much after a year since my last visit to Oz. I'm quite surprised the amount of small changes here and there in a year that I noticed, but it is all for the better. The cast were great and each brought something new to the characters, even Savannah after playing it for about three years! But seriously, sorry to bring up an old topic, but no one in that theatre for one second is believing Katie Rowley-Jones is the younger sister of Emma Hatton! Especially considering Emma looks significantly younger than she actually is anyway! Gosh Daniel it must have taken you a long time to ask all 2,500 audience members what they thought! It's good that although they couldn't convince themselves of a discrepancy in age, they were able to get over the fact there's a talking goat, a green witch that is nifty at operating a cherry picker and some flying monkey's in the show too. It's lovely when an audience is accepting of stuff like that.

Guys, if I were to send a letter to Sheridan via the theatre, shall I do it now or when she returns? Ideally, I'd like to send it before I see the show? I hear the cursed child has some spare owls you can use.

Out of interest, how does the badge thing work? Do they try and give them to as many people as possible or do you have to make a beeline for a staff member?
I don't want to miss out on them (sad that may be)! I wonder how long they'll keep giving them out, until press night I guess?

Can't see if it's been asked before, but are they stinging us for 1 programme or 2, or 1 very expensive programme for both? Mentioned earlier in the thread but I think it can be forgiven for not trawling back. £5, covers both parts I believe and has lots of nice photos apparently.

It is quite so hassle though. We had tickets for a nice weekend matinee, but now we'll have to change to a weekday in August probably. There's also less seats available to change to Oh Geoooooooooooooooooooorge! Then keep your tickets for the date you have.

Seatswise, we have E10 and E11 which are great. Nelly - I didn't try out your seat but from where I was sitting it looked like the back of the stalls would be ok. I don't think the overhang will affect too much. I think some people have already said this but I would not want to read the script before watching the show. It's very much designed to be seen. The ending of Part 1 in particular was epic and I can't see it coming across the same in writing. Thank you! I don't think I've been this excited to see something new before. 15 days left to try and be spoiler free! I'll have a lot of catching up on the spoiler thread!

I think they will announce something soon, or possibly email the people who are going soon. They owe people, such as you, who have counted out the days since they announced it and presumed that meant she would be on the stage the following night. I'm going in one week, so possibly they will contact us in some way. After hearing how brilliant Natasha is doing and that she can really sing the songs well, I'm hoping they stick with Natasha now. Yes they might email. I'm going in a week so we'll probably change if she isn't back by then. My grandparents changed from this weekend to a later date so we would do the same

So they had child actors coming out to meet these weirdos people at the stage door? When Oliver used to run they were always very good at ushering the children through and saying no photos I worked on Billy, it was most disturbing and don't get me started on the Billy forums. We used to have after parties when a Billy, Michael or Debbie would leave. These took place in the theatre after it was clear of audience and the 'fans' (read old men) used to hang about into the early hours of the mornings to say goodbye etc. All very odd. Of course they weren't doing anything illegal so it was very hard to actually deal with but they came up with clever ways to do it, distraction methods etc. And as noted earlier in this thread, everyone was instructed not to let anyone know who was on in advance.

My bad, he also withdrew from a Hairspray tour half way through. That also ruffled feathers. Back to Funny Girl. Is she back yet?

There was another lengthy discussion on the old forum which came out of that TV programme about the woman putting on Happy Days where a "name" she hired dropped out, left her in the lurch and she had no comeback because there was no contract. And there's the Kinky Boots actor who went through a period of dropping out of things at the last minute... It all seems rather lax. Thank goodness they had Cheryl Baker to pull it through... Who's the Kinky Boots one who drops out of things? It was Marcus Collins. I'm pretty sure it was just one show he dropped out of last minute because he got a better show (one he loves too) in Kinky Boots. Doesn't sound like he did it in a very ceremonious way, however. Not a secret really...

And you can rely on the hardcore Potter fans to shut down anyone (including the press) who tries to defy JK herself and spoil it for others. It may still be hard for the critics to go to town on it once it opens, especially if nothing has leaked throughout previews. Reviews will have to be pretty generic or risk the wrath of fans. Which is fine for a glowing review. But if reviews are negative, they'll struggle to back up what they're saying without being accused of spoiling something for the army of fans who are waiting patiently to see it. I've just talked myself into concluding that it's a brilliant marketing ploy. Baz has already been flamed for revealing various bits (haven't actually read what they are in fear of actual spoilers). It's on twitter for those curious.

Just me who has a strange feeling the reason they are getting Natasha to do all these press and interviews is so that she becomes more well known to carry the rest of the run? I don't want it to be the case as I want Sheridan to return but I have a strange feeling it is all part of a wider plan? I take it you haven't read this thread recently?
