Until the film is released, we have no idea what'll be like. I would say Snow White unlike other Disney remakes probably would benefit from a couple of changes, it hasn't aged as well which isn't surprising given it's 85 years old.

We know a lot of the principal casting now
We know what the lead actor has said about her role and other elements of the film
All of this seems to be quite some way from the Disney original let alone the various Grimm versions.
And yes, we won't know everything until the film is finally released.
But it is not surprising that people are taking a view on the film based on what is in the public domain.
And it does not surprise me that people have reacted negatively to the removal of elements that are seen by many as being at the core of the story.
It is absolutely fine to do a reimagining of this fairy tale. But the further you move away from the original versions, the more you risk alienating people who grew up on the story.
If Disney had described this from the outset as a new take rather than a live action remake, they wouldn't be dealing with the current criticism.

Things are really getting out of hand with Rachel Zegler's comments. And this is after Disney decided to listen to Peter Dinklage and deny six dwarf actors (at least they have one) work in the film. By trying to make themselves look inclusive they did the complete opposite. I mean for goodness sake Dinklage said the seven dwarfs lived in a cave. Did he not watch the film. People across the board think Zegler is being insufferable in this case. Even the diehard Disney fans who would defend anything thinks this remake of Walt's classic film is a step too far. She says she dislikes the story she's starring in, calling the prince a stalker, and saying the whole moral of the story about vanity has been removed and now will focus on Snow White's inner struggle. And people are calling out her contradictory commentsNow to be fair, I think some of the things she's said have been by design from the movie's PR team. But it's becoming clear that people are taking note of controversies surrounding films or the actors and directors' 'hot takes'. Despite everything going for The Flash with Michael Keaton's Batman returning, people heard about Ezra Miller's antics and decided against see it. The newly released Blue Beetle had some controversy calling Batman a 'fascist' in the trailer and the director's political hot takes on twitter that were soon taken down, and is already predicted to be the latest box office bomb this year And now branding experts are saying Zeglers comments will affect Snow White's box office success. I suspect Disney is giving Rachel a talking to at the moment. She hasn't starred in a lot of successful films (and yes that includes West Side Story) so she hasn't exactly got the clout to be throwing these comments around. I think film studios are going to have a tighter leash on what actors and creators say about their films in the future.

I think producers will go very Conservative and not do anything very radical as is proven anything notably radical, story changes, gender changing, race changing, means box office flop in the majority of cases.

It's fine to do radical new versions as long as you are honest about it upfront.
What I have never liked is using an existing classic to generate sales of a remake that is not as good as the original.
That is just lazy. Be creative. Be innovative. But be original.
Don't call it Snow White when you don't intend to tell the fairy story that everyone has known for decades.
That approach worked with the Huntsman films. And gave the creators a chance to do something different without raising hopes/expectations.

It's also not as though we haven't had snow white remakes with more modern twists. Mirror mirror and the snow white and huntsman films. Plus snow white in things like once upon a time. This is classed as one of disneys live action remakes, so it's very much disneys snow white. That's how it's been promoted and what people will expect. Very few of the remakes have been any good (or at least lived up to the original) for various reasons, but they did (mostly) stick true to their source. Going too modern and too realistic can zap the magic and charm out of the stories (e.g. Peter Pan and wendy). Mind you people regularly don't understand fairytales. When Alws Cinderella came our CHF, and other creatives were going on about how this cinderella wasn't wanting to be saved by a man. But that's not what cinderella was about in first place. She wanted to escape her hard life, her prison, and it's about the face of having courage and kindness in face of adversity.

I thought the issue was going to be that people had complained about her not having "skin as white as snow, lips as red as blood, hair as black as ebony". Which I'd be very much in favour of her saying it doesn't matter, how you play the part is more important etc. I'm very pleased that hasn't been the case!
But instead we seem to have got "Snow White is a rubbish character and story and I'm going to do something better and different, I'll just be called Snow White".
The dwarf argument is also a bit weird. Surely they're fairytale dwarves, not humans with dwarfism? I look forward to the Girl Guiding Association complaining about the next film to include Brownies because they're not little girls in yellow and brown...

But wait, I thought these were the seven dwarfs, as taken on filming. Or should I say 'magical creatures' metro.co.uk/2023/07/15/snow-white-remake-first-look-images-show-diverse-casting-19135409/Or has there been a lot of recent backlash, loss of box office fortunes, and decline in stock market value that Disney has back tracked and rushed together some bad looking cgi dwarves in a post-production shot before the next investors call in 2 weeks time. All they had to do was not listen to Peter Dinklage.

I thought it couldn't get any worse than the 3 fairies in maleficent, but I was wrong.
It amazes me how bad the cgi often looks in disney movies.
I agree re Peter. I think Disney is now so scared about offending anyone, they just reactionary responses to things without thinking it through. Plenty within the community disagreed with Peter. His opinion is no more valid than theirs.
Disney may as well scrap the movie now, is so tainted in negative PR.
