Nice to see Steven Rostance back with Mischief. Jonathan should suit him, given he was very good when covering Cooper in TCAABR.

I read here that there is a pre-show before the play. What time do you recommend getting to the theatre to see it? I'm going this Sunday at 7 pm. Also what happens during the pre-show?

About 15-20 minutes before the show starts, a few members of the cast and some of the understudies who aren't on that show, run around the auditorium asking people if they've seen a dog and shout out for it as if they've lost one.

The 2018 tour starts tonight, in Northampton. I'd be very interested in any reviews of the new cast from anyone seeing the early tour stops. It doesn't get round to my local till the end of May and, unlike last year's cast, this year's haven't done a practice at the Duchess, so I have 6 months of suspense before I can see them. I'm also particularly interested, if anyone is seeing it in Chichester next week, as to how the staging is modified for Chichester's thrust stage.

Finally got round to seeing this last night (mostly thanks to the deal I got through GILT): the comments on the outside of the Duchess like 'made me cry with laughter' had always put me off somewhat, but I have to say I really enjoyed this, it was the funniest stage production I have seen in several years (it makes laughter/smile free rubbish like The Painkiller seem even more painfully, embarrassingly bad) : although sitting in the front row, I REALLY could have done without Chris Bean/Jack Baldwin pointing me out to the couple sat a couple of seats along from me with the uncontrollable giggles (and every other person there) and saying 'why can't you be like this man here? He's sat here for 45 minutes and hasn't laughed once!' I wasn't sat there like Statler without Waldorf, I was laughing on a regular basis (honestly).

Don't worry, that's a standard line, someone in each audience is going to get it directed at them. I've had it addressed to me before, when seeing the tour.

Oh, I had forgotten how brilliant this show was. I last saw it two years ago with the original cast.
Everyone is great, especially the ladies. The only weak link is the actor playing Dennis imo.
Ready for act 2!

He was also in the 2nd West End cast of PPGW last winter so the casting people evidently like him. For me part of the problem is he's just too tall for the role. I know I'll probably get told off for criticising an actor's appearance but some of of the jokes connected with Dennis are just not as funny for me when he's the same height as the rest of the men than they are when he's the pathetic smaller one being towered over by the taller men.

Saw the touring production yesterday - very strong cast all around. Plenty of new little touches added in. Max and Dennis now seem to be much closer friends than we've seen before - whenever Dennis gets his line wrong, Max tries to support/comfort him or (in one case) turn to the audience and mouth "he's trying his best". Having a slightly older Chris makes a lot of sense to me, also.
In my mind, without question, the best ensemble since the original cast.

I'd say that Max trying to help Dennis has been gradually coming in more over time, so presumably the new tour cast have added to that. I guess Chris could be older because he spends so much time on the drama society that he keeps failing his exams!

Ah yes. Me and my American buddy were there very early and some of the actors started going round asking about a dog (forget its name now), then they sort of gave up and one of the actresses asked my friend if he could be the replacement dog. He agreed then she asked him to do his best dog impression so he barked manically at her and she recoiled in terror.

If Mischief ever get to do a Cornley sitcom series I want an episode where a stray dog suddenly rushes up to Trevor & it's Winston, finally found!

Saw the tour tonight and it was absolutely brilliant. Bit of an awkward moment with a technical fault that the audience at first thought was part of the show! Stopped for about 10 minutes then carried on.

Stopped for about 10 minutes then carried on. I've seen that at the Duchess. It's hardly surprising really that anyone seeing the show for the first time could easily get mixed up. I guess the tour cast wouldn't have the freedom to turn that to their advantage but I have seen the original cast do so brilliantly.

We really weren't sure, until the FOH Manager came on stage to say so. It was my first time but I shall definitely go again, thoroughly enjoyed it.

Interesting to see the current tour cast are taking over the West End with a new cast going out on tour.
Wonder if that was always the plan or has happened because they're an especially strong unit.

As requested on The Comedy About a Bank Robbery thread, a list of the casts for the London & UK tour productions of The Play That Goes Wrong.
(NB The programmes have only ever listed 1st covers so I have included 2nd covers where I know them but this is only for some casts. If anyone knows any of the missing ones feel free to add them.)
Cast information for the original fringe production is taken from the 1st edition of the script, as I didn't see the show for the first time until the Trafalgar Studios run.

This is truly incredible, I'm amazed that not only do you know every cast, including the very earliest ones, you also know all of the information about emergency covers. This has made such good reading, and it's really interesting to see the same names cropping up across the various shows.

This is truly incredible, I'm amazed that not only do you know every cast, including the very earliest ones, you also know all of the information about emergency covers. This has made such good reading, and it's really interesting to see the same names cropping up across the various shows. I'm lucky that I fell for TPTGW back when it was a 1-act play at Trafalger Studios & have seen every UK cast since (apart from the current tour cast as they haven't got round to me yet) so it's much easier for me to compile a list than it would be for someone coming to it later on as not only do I know most of it from being there but I have all the programmes for double-checking. Likewise, many of the emergency covers I either saw when they did the emergency covering or I was told about them around the time. I think there have been more emergency cover incidences but I've only included the ones that I am sure of. I'm rather sketchy on the third cast's year as I only saw them once, due to seeing large amounts of TCAABR at that time. Yes, there have been quite a lot of returnees, which I find lovely as a fan. For instance, I realised when I saw Chris Leask make his Freeboys debut on Friday that it was four years to the week, if not quite the day, since I first saw him with Mischief, in the PPGW tour. I love that you are so passionate about Mischief and have taken the time to gather all this information. Thank you.

Loving the work you've done into collating all the cast information for Mischief Theatre - it's been so interesting to read. The third West End cast were the first ones I saw and made me interested in Mischief Theatre's work.
I saw the new West End cast last week and was impressed. Alastair Kirton got the biggest laughs, and he is probably my favourite Max alongside Dave Hearn. Loved Graham Rooney and Katie Bernstein as well.

I haven't seen the new West End cast but I did see them 3 times when they were the tour cast last year and Alastair Kirton & Graham Rooney, along with Patrick Warner, were the stand-outs for me then.

So the list is already out of date! Add George Haynes to the emergency covers list, he tweeted earlier that he's covering Chris for the tour for a week.

Was an early version of this ever performed at the Edinburgh Fringe? When I saw it on Broadway, it seemed awfully familiar, although the play I saw in Edinburgh was much shorter and the set, of course, was far simpler.
