More tickets were made available today. You can book here: t.co/qX0Qls99lu - I even saw a couple available for the opening preview on June 7, nice stalls seats. Too bad I already have my tickets and whole trip planned for the end of July! I'm assuming they are making the wishlist's tickets availble on the main system? Seems like an smart idea.

Has anyone else noticed this production has, effectively, been delayed?
We were told when sales were first starting that performances before June 7th would be sold at a later stage, specifically performances starting late May.
Does that point to delays in rehearsals, or simply that they realise it'll be such a juggernaut that they needn't rush to do extra performances..?

It means they were considerate enough not to sell performances that they couldn't be sure they would be ready for, and that they are taking the time to get the show right, which is all that really matters, whenever it opens.

Yup, and that they're savvy enough to avoid the negative publicity of people having booked flights and accommodation to see performances they had to cancel. They knew the most devoted fans would buy the first tickets released, for an early as possible in the run, and they're the most likely to be travelling a long way.

Not always very high value in terms of ticket yield or donations

I'm sure I remember someone here or maybe on the old forum saying that in general people should be in their seats 30 minutes before the start of a show
I'm more of a breeze in to the building 5 minutes beforehand and still manage to order an interval drink and have a pee type.

All true - just worth noting that they seem to have pushed back their schedule at one stage or another. I'd agree it's the right thing to do - start later then announce extra performances if possible. No one will remember that they once said they wanted to start earlier, but plenty of people would remember if they need to cancel their first week of previews! Not as if it makes one jot of difference in the end - Matilda delayed their opening by a week, for example. Don't think it impacted their business..

I have a general rule of 'If the actors don't need to be here yet neither do I' for people insisiting on being there stupidly early. That said if I'm doing a 2 show day and your theatre has space to loiter (NT I'm looking at you) then I will be there taking advantage of seats and wifi. Reminds me of a conversation I had with a friend yesterday about a comedy show where she said "I'm sure we'll find a seat, as long as I'm there early enough to buy a drink first"

Any views on today's character studies? I was surprised by how authentic they appear. I'm getting sucked back into the Harry Potter and the Cursed Child vortex and am now booked again, after over three months of trying in vain to offload my tickets.

From The Stage: I'm hoping that this is just education that theatre is not like cinema so you don't show up at the time on your ticket so that you try to skip the trailers - maybe it's because they are expecting so many little theatre-goers.. but seriously, an hour before the show? (Also info about the Palace's plans for the facade in the article: www.thestage.co.uk/news/2016/palace-theatre-plans-hogwarts-themed-harry-potter-facade/ ) I'm sorry. Unless JK Rowling is doing the bag searches herself then there is no Hogworting way I'm getting to the theatre an hour before the curtain goes up. In a situation like this I'd think to myself, what would Elaine Paige do? And you can guarantee she won't be hanging around for an hour before the show without copious amounts of free champagne and a few nuggets of celebrity gossip from Christopher Biggins to make it worthwhile. An hour. I ask you. La Paige would have you effin' roasted.

Just walking past the theatre and there are loads of people going in with tickets, all getting bag checked and body scanned with those handheld detectors before they go into the building.
Have performances started yet? Must be an invited dress or press event?

Perhaps they're doing a dummy run to see how long it actually takes to strip search and x-ray the entire audience and get them all to their seats?

They just never released tickets to the public... It's so exciting! And at the same time scary because spoilers may start leaking any time now... I wont lie, Sam Clemmett (Albus) is cute #is_he_legal lol he is. He's actually 22, playing an 11 year old...

He's actually 22, playing an 11 year old... Is Albus definitely 11? I was surprised at how old he looked in the photo, makes complete sense knowing how old he is. From the picture I was guessing they were going for a teenage Albus but if he's meant to be 11 that's a bit odd. Unless of course they just don't want multiple children sharing the roles and masses of chaperones.

Timelinewise, it seems to be about the same time as the epilogue, as far as I can tell. But this isn't the first play with adults playing children (His Dark Materials, any Peter Pan) so there's no reason for it not to work.

It hasn't been explicitly stated, but it's been said that the play takes place 19 years after Deathly Hallows, which would mean it picks up right after the epilogue. Also, when sharing today's images, they said Albus was pictured ready "for his first day at Hogwarts," so that pretty much confirms it. I do think that the reason he was cast older is to avoid having different children sharing the role. It looks like he'll be a central part of the play, so they may want to have a single actor playing him.

Of course it can and will work having an older actor play an 11 year old. I do keep meaning to see the Railway Children and they are all adults. It does make sense to just have one person playing him, not only does it not complicate things with multiple casts but he won't grow and need to be recast soon.

There are children in the show so I guess they might be Hermione and Ron's kids

Cherrelle Skeete this morning confirmed as playing Rose Granger-Weasley, and the kids are definitely 11 and about to start Hogwarts. Apparently we only have two more of these cast portraits to come tomorrow, but at least we've now had all the actors who we already know which role they're playing, so tomorrow will be new casting news.

Cast photos of Ron, Hermione and their daughter Rose have been released today. Rose looks to be roughly a similar age to the Albus actor.
Cue the bigoted race comments.

I can understand people's comments to a certain degree, for many it's a beloved character they have grown up with and had an image in their mind (plus the movie) and the play is completely changing that image. Not saying that's right or wrong, but I can understand people's surprise.
Personally the only issue is have is Harry ron and hermione all look different ages in the photos.

Did people lose their marbles when Adrian Lester played Henry V, out of interest? 'Cos Henry V was a real historical person who was white, and what with Laurence Olivier and Kenneth Branagh there'll have been a popular image in people's minds too, so I'd be interested to hear if there was a comparable backlash.

Laurence Olivier was English, Kenneth Branagh is Irish and Henry V was Welsh.

And Adrian Lester is English. Thanks for your completely-failing-to-answer-the-question-that-has-been-asked insight.

At that time, there was much less opportunity for everyone to instantly fire off public comments whereas, today, Twitter encourages extreme reactions, to get attention. I think that National Theatre audiences generally understood that Henry V is a piece of theatre and not a documentary.
