I think most members of the public if asked would say that a drag queen was a man dressing up/performing as a woman.
That is what has been the case in the mainstream in the UK for decades.
So it is understandable when that is the expectation many, many people have when it comes to drag queens.
I think we essentially have three broad categories of drag. Drag Queens where men perform as women. Drag Kings where women perform as men. And Drag where none of the "traditional" rules apply and is, in a way, a form of performance art.
I don't think anyone should be attacked for expressing a preference for any one type/style of drag. And I don't think anyone should seek to diminish those who perform in a category that isn't one they prefer.
We should accept and celebrate the differences that each has to offer and not seek to force people into a uniform view of this form of entertainment.
I like the more Musical Theatre style performers and the older school comedy queens. I have very little interest in look queens who are primarily interested in fashion/Instagram. They just do nothing for me. I can acknowledge the effort and skill they display but not be entertained by it.
There is space for many varieties of drag. But it is wrong to try to force everything and everyone into one definition and far better to celebrate those performers who excite, interest and entertain you.

Apparently, after catching Covid and not being able to return to the second half of season 2, Veronica was given an ultimatum of either - come back for season 3 (filming immediately after the end of S2) or not come back at all. But, she spent what money she had on her S2 looks and wasn’t able to make money during lockdown, so she’s come to this season far less prepared. I hope that she has a good season but it feels quite ominous.

There is no way that was a fair elimination
The lipsync was not won by the person who got to shantay.

There is no way that was a fair elimination The lipsync was not won by the person who got to shantay. Personally I thought the winner gave much more of a performance of the song, whereas the sashayer was more about the gymnastics. I think that happens a lot in the many Drag Race franchises - impressive as the gymnastics can be, they aren’t always appropriate for the song.

Well that was a surprise double
A wig falling off will always ruin your lipsync chances
But was it really a double worthy pair of performances?

I never expected the double sashay! It definitely wasn't an amazing lip sync but it wasn't TERRIBLE?

I think losing Victoria was always going to be a major blow seeing as she would have been a frontrunner and a huge narrative force for the season. Their second mistake was eliminating Veronica Green when that lipsync could easily have been a double shantay, Veronica was held back by her dress but I still liked what she did and the emotion she brought. I think it would have made sense to keep her because she also had a good storyline to give and we know she’s a polished and very talented queen. The double shantay the week after was a joke in my opinion, Charity clearly beat Scarlett and Scarlett really cocked up in the girl group challenge so even though she’d done well so far she should have been eliminated. Then we had the terrible challenge last week and an underserved double sashay this week, sending home two of the biggest personalities remaining. Honestly what is going on?!

Anyone know how many episodes are left? Do you think that we’ll either get Victoria back, or an episode where a previously eliminated queen comes back (and then leaves the next week.)

That episode is now the lowest rated DRUK ep so far and the 8th lowest in DR herstory on IMDb.
Which is such a shame as Ella killed it, and the reading challenge was great. I was enjoying the episode until the ending happened.

One of the problems is that there’s just too much drag race. It’s always on and multiple series are running at the same time, as well and they’re all doing challengers that been done to death before, so it all feels so…boring.

Loved that lip sync tonight: fair outcome. Not nuts about the whole Bra Wars thing but some fun performances. Loved the runway looks - when Kitty came out for the runway I just kept thinking Carrie HF! But loved it

It felt like a bit of a filler episode to me. The script was weak. The non elimination clearly engineered because of the numbers not stacking up.
The season isn't as good as the first two

Blimey there were two awful performances in that Roast.
Ella or Kitty for the win. Don't mind which.

Also Drag Race Italia started last night. Decent opening with plenty of experienced and different queens.
French version has just started casting as has season two of Espana
Much euro drag to come

Was a really great episode this week. Ella was brilliant and it's now hers to lose.
On another note - I'm seeing Rupaul's Drag Race Live in Las Vegas tonight! First time seeing anything in Vegas so I'm sure it will be fun.

Ella has done a bit of a Bimini and risen up out of nowhere, nobody was really talking about her the first few weeks and was probably one of the most obvious choices to go home quite early but then just got stronger and stronger. Of course Bimini didn't end up winning and I don't think Ella will either. I still think it will be between Kitty and Crystal.

Kitty for the win. Ella strikes me as being an actor using drag to further their career. Didn’t he make a comment this week that he doesn’t actually interact with audiences? Does he even appear live as a drag act? Crystal shows a lot of promise but she doesn’t know anything other than looking great. Kitty is funny, can act and has turned some great looks so despite hating her gobbiness for the first few weeks she’s my choice now.

I feel like it's a strong top three and I'd be quite happy for any of them to win, I'd be happy for them all.

Crystal may well have been the winner of season 5 or 6. But she is not yet a rounded queen who can turn her hand to everything.
I also worry about the message that crowning a teenager who is already having cosmetic surgery (to boost their career) sends.

Doesn't Ella have a few west end credits to her name? In the singing challenge she was terrible and yet in the comedy challege despite claiming she doesn't do comedy, seemed to excel in it.
I want Kitty to win. The only one i would want to see live.

Wrong person won in my opinion although I’m glad that she won over the ego of the one who thought she had it in the bag. So hard to do this without giving anything away.

I thought it was a fair result from that episode, although she wouldn't have been my pick from the whole season. The other two felt to me like they'd not realised it was the final, and weren't bringing their A game. Ella in particular.
