Oof! A complete mixed bag. At least some of the songs were nicely done.
Anyhow, I enjoyed my trip to Bath.

Took advantage of the glorious weather and some free work days last week and ended up taking the train to see the aforementioned relatives visiting Bath. Got a seats in the stalls for this.
I really wanted this to be better than it was. The cast deserved a better show than the one they were given to work with. They all did as well as they could with what was there. I thought Rebecca Collingwood was delightful. Michael Xavier sang the totally unnecessary songs beautifully. The two of them bounced off each other really well. I wish Tania Mathurin was given more to do because I thought she was a highlight every time she was on stage. The ensemble sang and danced wonderfully. Some of the staging was weird. The Vespa ride was... It wasn't great, let's say that. There has to have been a more effective way to do that scene. And there was a moment towards the end where a photograph was shown on stage that made a couple of people around me giggle, which I don't think was the intention.
However, the older group I was with genuinely had a great time and I heard a number of people of a similar age rave about it on the way out. So maybe there is an audience for it. It's just not me.

I'm not sorry I saw it. I had a perfectly pleasant evening. I just wouldn't rush to see it again. The cast do a really lovely job. I just wish the show itself was as good as they all are.

I've lost track of this, it was meant to be a Curve production pre covid wasn't it? Did Curve do it and I've missed it, or after covid did it end up at Bath instead?!

How sad that the WOS reviewer hasn't bothered to check his facts citing Grace Kelly (instead of Audrey Hepburn) as the original star of the film. Mind you Michael X tweeted that he'd be stepping into Cary Grant's shoes (instead of Gregory Peck's). Sigh........................

I note that has now been revised. Still incredibly poor and shines a light on the reviewer.
