Is the Spring Awakening revival eligible or closed too soon (I still don't understand how it works, sorry)? Because I would give best Directing and Choreography to Michael Arden and Spencer Liff. At least as a nomination. (I loved the show)
But for the best revival of a musical what are the nominees? Spring Awakening, Fiddler, the Color Purple... Dames at sea? I don't remember what else opened this year.

And let us not forget that Hamilton opened way at the beginning of the Season. Sure, no one has forgotten it haha, but the Tony Committee, as mentioned above, may just want to honour a different show. I think Daveed has the biggest chance, as Renée has a lot of people to battle it out with, including Jennifer and Danielle of The Color Purple. I doubt they'll select another show over Hamilton for best musical. The backlash would be too great.

At least as a nomination. (I loved the show) It is eligible. The time between two productions for the second to be considered a revival is three years. Spring Awakening had 9 years. www.tonyawards.com/pdf/2015_Tony_Rules_and_Regulations.pdf <-- see page 7

Spring Awakening will join: Fiddler On The Roof, She Loves Me, Dames At Sea and The Colour Purple.
Probably the hardest of all the catogories to call, any of them could win, except Dames at Sea, my money would be on Fiddler on the Roof.

I love Lin an awful lot, and wouldn't mind him getting a nomination for best actor, but in that category, he honestly stands no chance and that's okay.

Id like to see Dames at Sea her a Choreography and Supporting Actress for Lesli nomination. I could see it happening too, which I would love!

Hamilton is probably going to sweep the board, with a lot of noms and then I guess it'll win most categories it's nominated in.
I'd like to see Lea Salonga and Telly Leung nominated for the best actress and actor categories, for their roles in Allegiance. Although I thought the show was only okay, their performances were wonderful. Salonga is still one of the most fabulous leading women, and Leung was terrific too. Other than that I can't see the show picking up any awards. I'd like to see Cynthia Erivo win best actress and Renee Elise Goldsberry win best supporting actress. Best actor should be Leslie Odem Jr.
I's also like to see Spring Awakening pick up a couple of nominations.
Very excited for the nominations to be announced!

Actually, from what I've heard, the Tony committee only saw the show before Jonathan Groff left. I read somewhere they wanted to wait until closer to the Tony's and then Groff had a sudden departure and they rushed to get everyone in. So, if this information is correct, it will still be fresh in their minds. I think musical is a lock, most likely score, perhaps lighting. It's definitely going to get at least one acting award. I actually think Lin is the best actor in Hamilton, but I know I am extremely in the minority there.
I didn't see Allegiance, but from I've read I don't think it will get any nominations for leading. Those category's are just too strong.

When Lin win's for the Score, I hope he does a normal speech rather than rap like he did the last time. I get he is a talented guy and everything, I am a big fan of In the Heights, but I kind of watched that speech and felt it was (don't shoot me!) somewhat arrogant. And obviously I don't want to have that thought about him, as he is a super talented guy, but it just came across that way to me, and I realise I am in the minority.

That's your opinion and obviously you're entitled to it but arrogant is the last thing that would come to my mind when thinking about Lin. So far he's come across as extremely talented and nice in everything I've watched. Plus he's a proper theatre nerd. There's a reason a lot of theatre fans see him as "one of us". :-)

There's a reason a lot of theatre fans see him as "one of us". :-) I completely understand, and I think he is a hugely talented person as I mentioned previously and I really like him too... it was just that speech that I felt, if I knew nothing about him at all, it would come across as slightly arrogant or showing off.

I like Lin, but one day I want to see him just go rogue and sing his thank-you speech in the style of Maria Callas.

The nominations are being announced later today for the Hamiltony's... I mean the Tony's.

I think there's a line between confidence in your abilities and arrogance. Arrogance is if you think you're better than everyone else. Lin is constantly shouting out people who inspire him (even within these rap acceptance speeches). I met him a while ago and I must have been the millionth person to tell him Hamilton is great but the way he gave me such a genuine thankyou, I may as well have been the first. He then gave up five minutes of his time to talk to me about the London transfer, joke around etc. Couldn't be less arrogant but has earned the right to be confident in his talent and it would be very hard not to be confident with everyone telling you how great you are all of the time and winning awards every other week.
As I said in the other thread, crossing my fingers for a Phillipa Soo nomination today! She actually gave my favourite performance in the show (closely followed by Leslie Odom Jr and Daveed Diggs) and Eliza was my favourite character to watch. Definitely care about her character arc more than Angelica's, although Angelica obviously has Satisfied which is a big showstopper (Helpless is personally my favourite song of the whole show.) The other nominations I care about are mostly locked already I believe.

I have a weird feeling, much as everyone wants it to happen, that Hamilton is not going to get as many nominations or awards as people are suspecting. Whether it deserves them or not is a completely different matter, but especailly now with Shuffle Along... in the mix, hugely packed Acting catagories etc, I don't know why but I have a strange feeling we are in for a few surprises later on today and on the night.

Out of interest, which ones do you think it might not be nominated for? I think it will get at least one nomination in every eligible category except MAYBE lead actress for Phillipa, as that is such big competition. The revivals are really stronger than the original musicals this year so I think Hamilton will be fine. (Not that I think it will win everything, nor do I want it to).

I am not entirely sure, but I think mainly the acting catagories. It will get two for Lead Actor no doubt, but I am not sure about the other ones at all. The most obvious one is Renee for Featured Actress, but the other two catagories I don't know if at all they will be nominated. And even then, I don't think any of the three mentioned will win their catagories anyway. Which I don't mind, it would be nice to see the spread of weath otherwise this will be the most boring Tony Awards ever knowing Hamilton will win everything. And if they are to spread the weath, these are the catagories to do it.

I think Daveed Diggs is pretty much a lock for a nomination (and a win actually) but I agree that Phillipa, Chris Jackson and Jonathan Groff could go either way. I don't think any of the smaller roles (played by Oak, Anthony Ramos, Jasmine Cephas Jones) have a chance.

Does anyone know the time of announcement in UK time? 8:30am ET so if I'm not mistaken 13:30 over here...? Personally I'm rooting for King Charles III to do well, but then again I've no idea what Broadway's standard has been like this year, especially with plays.

I thought it was 13:30 too, thank you! I just hope for a few surprises at least. Go give Annaleigh Ashford, Lesli Margherita and Laurie Metcalf a nomination!

I have to agree with danieljohnson14. Even though Hamilton deserves all those nominations, it may not get all of them.
Is everyone sure Lin will be nominated? Even though he was my favourite actor in the show, there have been a lot of people calling his acting 'wooden'.
Daveed and Renée are definitely locks for nominations, if not wins.
I find it really sad that Anthony won't get a nomination. I thought he was phenomenal and much better than Christopher Jackson.
For King Charles III, I'm rooting for Tim Pigott-Smith, Olivier Chris and Richard Goulding to all get nominations. Thought they were all really good.
I'm also think Laurie Metcalf should get a nomination, but it seems kind of unlikely. I thought she gave an astonishing performance, but due to Misery's negative response the show may be subbed.

I could understand not liking Lin's performance, but wooden? He's really emotive.
But yeah I think he'll definitely get a nom, but no chance of the win.

It has a good chance of getting nominated for best play, leading actor in a play, costume design, direction of a play and maybe a couple of others. I imagine it will be nominated, I just don't know if it will win much, or even anything, as the reception has been a bit more mixed than when it opened in London, from what I've heard at least. Especially from some of the the critics on a few episodes of TheatreTalk.
