Wouldn’t Christmas be perfect for A Little Night Music? I can imagine snow machines and fur coats
Why? It takes place in midsummer.

What about a revival of one of the productions that Harold Prince directed? Maybe Kiss of the Spider Woman. It'd be a great tribute.

I suppose this gives away the fact I’ve still not seen it and am dying to. Every time I listen to some of the songs, I imagine the show taking place in winter. I’d be more than happy to share my ideas with Trevor Nunn if he’s been appointed to direct

After the Menier it went to The Garrick for a run and then to Broadway with Catherine Zeta Jones, Angela Lansbury and Alex Hanson who they brought over from the Menier. Catherine was later replaced by Bernadette Peters.

CZJ was one of the best Desiree’s in my opinion. Another musical that I would warmly welcome at Christmas would be Song & Dance. I do feel like it deserves to be seen again especially by those of us who missed it the first time. I’ve been listening to a Variations and would love to see how this would translate into a dance interpretation.

As I say, I would really like to see a revival of this. Any ideas on who could play Desiree who hasn't yet? Will it be Imelda?

A little night music is being staged at Chichester next year. With it being his 90th birthday, I expect we’ll have a few more productions of his shows. With this and Sunday taken and Company and Follies being done in the last few years the choices are narrowing, though.

Forum would be perfect for Regents Park actually They staged it in 1999. Enough time has passed for them to have another go at it. I think Night Music and Sunday would work brilliantly outdoors

Forum completely gender flipped would be good (not just one or two parts but all). As Hysterium is gender neutral (know your Latin!) that would also work well if their gender identity was fluid. The last time I saw it, it was very lacking in humour and I think it would completely revitalise it. From Whoopi Goldberg as Pseudolus to other productions that have flipped some roles, I think Sondheim would be open to the idea.

Feel like it should've done by now with all the intimate versions we've had in recent years.

I was thinking maybe a more classic show like Guys & Dolls or Brigadoon or Gigi?

Sweeney Todd has been done both in the West End and ENO so I think we won’t see a production for a while.

Romantics Anonymous would be an adorable Christmas musical at the Menier (I mean c'mon, Chocolate Factory!), though I wouldn't enjoy the ticket prices! This is a genius suggestion. That show was one of the most perfect trips to the theatre in the last few years and it would be a great fit for the space. As well as being a joyous show for christmas time.

mrbarnaby you seem to get the news on this fairly early - any rumblings as to what this might be?
