A couple of years back my daughter would have been begging me for tickets to this. I spent a particularly unpleasant couple of hours in the basement of Waterstones Picadilly at the launch of Carrie Hope Fletcher's first (self help) book surrounded by screaming teens and a few other weary accompanying parents. Now, just like the One Direction mug, the signed book has been consigned to the charity shop. She was particularly shocked recently to look at the 'Hopeful Shop' and see that Ms Hope Fletcher was flogging tea at £5.98 for 63g which, back in the day, she would have proclaimed a bargain. I suppose what I'm saying is that while I and the rest of the family looked on with some despair at our girl's choice of role model at 14, these things do pass amazingly quickly. I'm sure that at some level Ms Hope Fletcher and the people around her recognise this too and will be planning to construct her a future with wider appeal. Just as some of us have been lamenting the death of David Cassidy this week I'm sure that in decades to come my daughter and her fellow once 'Hopefuls' will retain or regain a fondness for someone who they once poured so much emotion into. Tell me about it! I’m the lucky one that gets to accompany my now 20 year old daughter to one of the concerts. This is code for “can you drive me to London please Dad”. Whilst I do really rate her voice the accompanying soap opera & hilarious revolving door of ‘friends’ is wearing thin. Exciting update!!!! - I no longer have to go😀 I can’t have two Saturdays in a row off and I’d much rather take her to Harry Styles the week after just in case Kacey Musgraves does the support slot like she is in the US. Disappointing Update - Kacey isn’t supporting. I get to drive to Birmingham to hear the two songs I like and be one of the token Dads. Can’t even have a beer☹️.

Does CHP work at Leon across the street from Les Mis? No, really. I could swear I was rung up by someone who was either her or looked a lot like her.

(That's bitchy, I'm actually a huge fan of Fletcher snr)

Triple like. That tea scam though. The NERVE of the woman.

Carrie set to release her first solo album this Spring. No doubt following her Cadogan Hall concerts, a tour will follow.

Apparently it's 'unique covers of musical songs'. I'm suddenly very scared of the word 'unique'... 😕

An album makes sense given her following, it could probably sell good numbers if her fanbase by it. But how many albums of theatre standards can we have?

True. She's got a great voice though. I'm going to one of the Cadogan Hall concerts on the Sunday so I guess I'll find out her choices then!

With her fanbase, she is in a better position than most performers at her level to do a tour and album. She will likely tie it in with signings which are always popular to help boost album's profile.
People say her fanbase could work against her getting roles but a producer looks at her online following and thinks a few percent of those are bound to come along.

As much as (as above comments indicate) she irritates me sometimes, I started 'following' CHF because of her voice- so I'm pretty sure I'll be buying the album. As much as some of the youtube and yes, selling teabags is annoying sometimes...she's a talented performer, and I'm excited to hear her take on 'standards' as much as I am any other performer I admire.
Also I'd be really happy to support an independant producer/label as well.
So well done Carrie I say- more singing less tea.
Also respect for her Instagram post that got a bit of tabloid coverage this week about the attitude we take to women/fitness in advertising.

Carrie was right about the gym poster, going to the gym for newcomers can be hard and you do have to "punish" yourself in someways. But the woman in the photo was likely a fitness model or trainer and people of that genre thrive and enjoy going to the gym.
Carrie has been criticised for being curvy or at the very worse a bit of a muffin top but she was happy enough with her figure to put a bikini photo online and ask people if they thought she was overweight or not.
She openly admitted she enjoyed some good food and having a drink on Addams family tour but it was a long tour and and a fairly physical show so she probably burnt off the extra calories she was consuming.

I didn't see this show but best actress? Unfortunately that's the nature of having a huge social media following/fanbase in a public vote... I personally felt that other nominees were far stronger

I'm confused here. How come the show was even nominated as it wasn't in the west end or did I sleep through it? Shouldn't it be best actress in a touring prodiction.

I agree that it is very random and there were many more complex performances, take the Follies ladies for instance. And Audra McDonald was not even nominated for Best Actress in a Play. What is that about?

I loved her voice in the show but her acting was way off, she played Wednesday as a whiny spoiled brat!

Twitter and Youtube. She has a massive following. As long as a public vote is there her fans will nominate her and then vote for her. Seeing the production is immaterial.

The real problem is believing that there's some kind of reasoning behind who wins these awards, they're just a popularity context. I mean, David Tennant's winning is almost equally bewildering.

As documented in this thread, I like the girl I do. She's great at acting through song, but I found her Wednesday ....unconvincing at best. As others have said WOS are a popularity contest though so...it figures (also *cough* she was hosting their red carpet coverage *cough*)

It’s hilarious how aggy people get when their fave doesn’t win. Theres some lad on twitter going on and on about her not deserving it in the rudest possible way, tagging her in it etc. I’d take a step back if I was her...

I do like CHF and when I've met her she seems a genuine person but some of her fans are very hardcore and think they own her. I'm sure Jeff Wayne and the War of the Worlds producers must be rubbing their hands at the number of tickets her following may buy for the autumn arena tour.

Is she talking about herself? If so I wouldnt say she was in the public eye. She is a bit "niche". Also depends on the stranger who asked. Could be fun.

Lordy some of her other replies are classic Carrie. Honestly I get that it might be a bit weird that someone has done it (in person, if it's online just do what we all do with weridos on the internet and ignore them...) I'm betting 99% of such people are fairly innocent requests from young girls thinking they could be 'friends' with her. And it strikes me as a bit mean to talk about them like that online. Most of them will grow out of the infatuation and realise it was a bit silly to ask and be mortified enough without her making more of a fuss. I really dislike her comments about it never being a balanced relationship. I know friends who have become friendly with actors initially in being admirers of their work, but as grown adults it has morphed into a real friendship. So I think she shows her nativity and sense of self importance a bit there. ETA actually on that last bit, f*** it so have I. And I'm not following them around worshipping them. Get off your high horse Carrie

I just can't help it - she comes across as slightly full of herself.
I'm friends with a couple of performers. Most of them I first talked to at the theatre. So it was very much a audience member / performer type of relationship in the beginning. I didn't worship them in the beginning, I most definitely don't worship them now. We're all human beings - just because their work involves performing in front of an audience doesn't mean they are in some way "above" me. Just the thought is ridiculous.
I suppose Carrie's fans are often younger and possibly more exitable. So I can see how they might idolize her. 13 years old me wouldn't have been able to have a balanced relationship with Robbie Williams either. ;-)
But like emicardiff has said, she really needs to get off her high horse.

But like emicardiff has said, she really needs to get off her high horse. Exactly that- I don't doubt some of these are excitable 13 year olds, in which case it's unkind to talk about them where they will no doubt see it in that way. But the idea that we 'can't' have a friendship is insulting to 'grown ups' who either encounter people through professional circumstances who they admire as an actor, and/or through seeing their work frequently strike up an evolving genuine friendship. But also generally she just needs to get off her high horse!

I always get a frisson of excitement when I see the CHF thread update, and it rarely disappoints 😋.
She continually makes the mistake of lecturing her entire fan base via social media when ONE PERSON has wronged her. It’s like when bad managers issue bollockings to their entire team because they’re scared of confronting the individual who screwed up.
Grow a pair Carrie.

I normally don't mind her but she is coming across as patronising and full of her self importance. She's not a Hollywood A Lister, she's someone who has got very lucky and had great opportunities due to a famous family member.
To give a half story is just inviting wrong interpretations and the passive aggressive insults followed by a token xxx at the end. She invites attention by putting herself in the public eye, then complains when she gets attention as a result. If it wasn't for her loyal fans, whom she seems to be always complaining about, she wouldn't get leading lady work that's for sure.
