I'm confused why social distanced when the plan up to now is to allow full capacity from June? The wording on their website is rather fluffy. Socially distanced seating until it isn’t, unless it needs to be for longer, but if it doesn’t it will be normal soon. Basically they are putting half the seats on sale and will fill the gaps when they can, which could be right away. Problematic for people booking on the understanding it will be distanced who then may have people right next to them! That’s how I read it anyway.

I'm confused why social distanced when the plan up to now is to allow full capacity from June? Maybe they are being cautious in case the government change their mind about full capacity. Its easier to add capacity instead of having to cancel people which happened to some shows in December. In an interview yesterday with Sonia Freidman she says that the government will only be giving a weeks notice to confirm full capacity.

Problematic for people booking on the understanding it will be distanced who then may have people right next to them! People who will only go if it is socially distanced shouldn't be booking, that is just an unrealistic expectation. Theatre is a business, and one which has been completely decimated over the last 12 months, so no-one should be in the least bit surprised that they will sell as many seats as possible as soon as they are allowed to, as that is the only way to make money.

Theatres do not need to be socially distanced by the 21 St of June. This is the producers way off accepting an empty house!

TPOE have clearly decided that performances with social distancing will almost certainly be allowed by summer so for now that’s the safest announcement to make. Yes, they need to sell as many tickets as possible but I would argue that more importantly than that, producers need certainty right now...and the June 21st end-of-restrictions date isn’t safe enough to work with...yet.

Although it has not yet announced its full reopening programme, the Stephen Joseph Theatre has stated that it will be continuing with all its Covid security measures for "quite some time."
This is the subsidised sector, rather than the commercial West End, but I think there is a belief amongst theatre administrators, perhaps backed up by surveys, that this is what the GBP want. It's not how I want to live my life, but after all the messaging over the last 12 months, it's hardly surprising.

It does make sense though. The show can go ahead with socially distanced audiences if restrictions remain in place and with capacity audiences as soon as they're able to. Not that I can really see this show packing out the Dominion whether audiences are socially distanced or not!

Theatres do not need to be socially distanced by the 21 St of June. This is the producers way off accepting an empty house! The dates are a “not before” not.a “permissible from”. Things may well get pushed back, particularly the June 21st date which is the full reopening of society.

I agree, but I thought the same might happen with last year’s JCS at Regent’s Park. Of course in the end we were nowhere near getting rid of socially distanced seating but it looked like it had been done so they could add rows back in.

Saw the matinee today (their third performance back) and really enjoyed it. Great atmosphere.
Checked back on my comments from when I saw a preview back last February where I said “I’d say it’s somewhere between 3 and 4 stars for me with much potential to improve”.
Well improved it has, and despite them only just being back it felt very polished. I’d put it as a solid 4 star plus show now, but again stand by my comment that it has a fair few too many reprises.
One major cast change was Clive Rowe taking over from Gary Wilmot and of course he was excellent.
Row M seats 7/8 in stalls through rush for £25 so great seats available for this (for now, only can be bought in pairs)

Nice to hear. I thought it was a lovely show and undeserving of the relentless snarking.

This is my kind of show so I’m not sure why it has not piqued my interest in quite the same way as other new shows. Maybe I’ll give it a go soon.

I saw this last night from the very back of the circle and was worried it would be lost in the barn of the dominion but it really wasn’t. As seems to be my tradition I’ve not seen the film This is based upon and it’s a long time since I’ve read any of the source material but I managed to follow it. I missed Gary Wilmot as he is out for Anything Goes (which this show replaced in my diary) so that give me a good reason to go back. Clive Rowe was awesome in the role. The whole cast was and I hope the keenness of producers to reopen earlier than some shows gets them the attention needed to get this show back on its feet.

I saw the show in Feb 2020 and was one of the last shows I saw before everything closed. The show got a lot of stick on here especially around the set but I really enjoyed it and it's quite a spectacular piece of theatre. I plan to go back again soon for a second visit and to see what changes have been made.

Seeing it tomorrow and so excited.
What’s up with the set? Cheap? Plain?

Consists of moving blobs apparently, and the parting of the red sea is not done with a 80000 gallon water tank…

The set (and show) is horrible. The fringing that hangs everywhere is however quite effectively used for the parting of the Red Sea.
Good luck.

Great speeches from the producers at the end of the show...they really stick the boot in to the government haha.

ceebee loves everything as usual and mrbarnaby hates everything as usual. Anything new? I will admit, I try to err on the side of optimism and positivity. I genuinely loved this show when it opened - I don't go the theatre particularly to find fault and I don't think it's a healthy mindset to look for it. Each to their own. I saw plenty of really tedious and dull RSC productions as a kid (and many brilliant ones too) so these days I'm happy to be entertained and to simply suspend disbelief. I do enjoy reading the comments of everybody though, MrBarnaby particularly regularly raises some really good thought-provoking posts. I'm probably pretty lightweight in my views compared to others who have a more critical eye, and I think/hope there's room for both.

I saw the last performance of this before lockdown, with three of the four leads missing (although the covers were excellent). Saw this again tonight from near the front, with everyone back (and a few new cast members). Very glad I did too, as somehow with this being my last show before lockdown, now it just feels like closing a chapter and theatre being back!
It is a long show, but there is a real sense of electricity there with the big moments. I do think they've improved the staging and there's more going on than I remember.
A shout out to Jack the usher, who was asking people as the went in to give him good reviews. He scanned my ticket perfectly and directed me to my seat, what more can you ask?
I had a TV presenter sat next to me (well, socially distanced next), but it's one of those annoying moments where he looked familiar but I can't think who he was. The masks don't help, of course (unless you're not wanting to be recognised).
An enjoyable evening anyway. The theatre seemed pretty full (long queues to get in) and everyone was on their feet very quickly for the ovation at the end.

I saw this tonight.
After seeing the dreadful Deathdrop and very dissapointing Cinderella tonight was FINALLY a show that delivers; goosebumps galore, sensational singing, the best dancing in a show I’ve seen in years, glorious staging and a powerful religious and political story told in the most creative way. It is NOT easy to stage an adaptation of the Book of Exodus following the life of Moses… and with the current Palestine/Israel situation the message of Hebrew slaves being set free (and the trouble both violent religions create) is stronger now in 2021 than the Dreamworks 1998 cartoon could have ever imagined.
The show I hear has been reworked again since it was briefly in the West End for a few weeks last year and WOW, it produced the epic Broadway experience we’ve all missed so much and we left in tears.
It’s not perfect, it’s too long, acting from two cast members not spot on, there are parts of the story I thought could be clearer and two new songs that I question… but damn, I want to see it again tomorrow!
Though not the gigantic hydraulic multi million pound stage sets we saw in the 80’s/90’s this was creative and clever and they even parted the Red Sea on stage!
9/10 from me. My group of friends all LOVED it.
