I remember the cast of Hairspray being on Strictly many years ago. I wonder if it was pre-recorded.
I agree - I think they should be showcasing a couple of current West end shows really. The West End is in a pretty healthy state at the moment, but you wouldn't really know it from watching the TV. So little musical theatre is featured on UK TV.
That said, Beverley and Idina are both wonderful so I'm looking forward to their performances.

Quite a few of the guest star songs/routines are pre-recorded - often during previous Saturday recordings but occasionally as stand-alone recordings - though I think the latter used to happen more often when they were at Television Centre when it was easier to drum up an audience at short notice. I do wonder whether the Idina Menzel performance was actually recorded a couple of weeks ago when she was over here doing the PR for Frozen.

I know not everyone is a fan of Idina but that was a great performance. One of my favourite songs of all time. I've even just downloaded her Christmas album off the back of that.

She has had 25 years of practice at that song, so no excuse for it not being good!
It was nice to hear a slightly different arrangement, though it was a bit overblown for me.

She had a choir and an orchestra behind her. Considering the song is about being alone with your memories.....😂 but quite nice dance with it.

I thought Idina would have done a tune from Frozen 2 but it was a great treat to hear her do Seasons of Love. At this stage in the series why not let a pro couple do a separate number and have the musical artists perform on their own. It would save less inane banter from Tess and Claudia.
Also from a main show point of view, is the level slightly underwhelming this year. Apart from Karim and Kelvin ( who was a replacement) there have been few show stopping performances and Chris Ramsey has survived until the semis without being a standout performer. One of Dev, Saffron, Viscountess Emma or Alex could easily have been in that spot plus maybe Will if he hadn't got injured. I'd pegged Will to go a couple more weeks after he pulled out but he may have gone further.

I'm assuming that Idina performed Seasons of Love mainly because it's on her newly-released Christmas album, but also Sunday was World Aids Day - and the song is closely associated with that.

Poor Chris, being lumbered with the Rumba in the semi final. He's definitely out this week.

I am thrilled that we get to hear Libertango this week. One of my favourite tracks.
Will make the AT feel authentic.

CRH opens in Panto at the Opera House MCR tomorrow. Star billing, name above the title and there are no Saturday performances through December until 21st when SCD has finished.

Same with Shirley at Darlington Hippodrome. A performance at 7.00pm, down to Elstree, then back in Darlington for a 2.00pm matinee on Sunday.

They must have really wanted Craig if they are willing to give up Saturday performances for most of the run. I wonder how much money they are losing because of it. I'm sure they have done the sums and its obviously worth it, but it seems an odd move. Are there Sunday shows to make up for it?

Was it just me, but with the big Hello Dolly opening number, did it not seen like a wasted opportunity to not promote the upcoming production by involving Imelda Staunton in some way? Maybe even to read out the Terns & Conditions of the voting?
Just a thought.

I’d rather Emma leave than Chris. She’s so boring. And what a terrible tune to put a Cha Cha to. Absolutely awful.

I agree I’d rather Chris stayed for the final. Kelvin was the star of this week for me. I agree with Craig’s previous comments that Karim is a very good dancer but you can see the effort. It makes me cringe when they mention Gene Kelly - no one on Strictly will ever come close!

Amazon have the previous 3 seasons to buy. I think for £12.99 each. Don't think it is on any of the free streaming sites right now.

I think Kelvin has it in the bag. It's a pity Chris isn't in the final, he seems such a great guy and he has improved so much. Still who am I to say!

Karin the best dancer but if the people are not voting for him, then Kelvin will win. Emma lovely dancer and has done her bit for expanding her career yet further.

I wonder if we will be in for a surprise and Emma wins. Not because she is the best dancer (which she isn't) but because there are a lot of Anton supporters out there and he has never won before so people might vote for him to win this year.

They said Anton would win when he danced with the now forgotten Katie Derham. Didn't happen, and she was more entertaining than Emma. It'll come down to the show dance and Oti is by far the most inventive of the choreographers left in the competition.

Perhaps Anton winning will be used as the excuse to force him into retirement...

I don't think it was thought that likely Anton would win with Katie given they were in the dance off in the semi final and that was Jay's year when he looked to have it sewn up for weeks.
In the end they were 4th and Emma has already beaten that and she's never been in the dance off. I think Kelvin will win it but Emma has a much better chance than Katie.
