Ok so always one to follow the popular vote I've just listened to the soundtrack and I've just put it on again... this is totally up my catchy street! When it transfers (assuming it will!) would Ben Platt not transfer with it ala Idina/Wicked and Andrew Rannels/BoM?! Andrew Rannels didn't transfer to London did he? I can't see Ben Platt transferring over of the show does come to London.. Evan Hansen has really raised his profile and there will be many job offers coming his way when he finishes on Broadway

He did not. Gavin Creel originated Elder Price in London.

I've corrected my original quote as it's not quite as relevant now!

Evan Hansen has really raised his profile and there will be many job offers coming his way when he finishes on Broadway I'm not sure Ben Platts voice will last that long. He was singing 'For Forever' on The Daily Show' and sounded hoarse and strained throughout. I'd much rather hear the likes of Liam Doyle have a crack at it (I'm convinced) than some patchy yank who happened to originate it.

I think it can; they just need to not build the show around whoever is the new Evan. I can see why they took that risk with their original Evan, but it doesn't necessarily have to be that way going forward.

Tbh, I loved DEH and it wasn't just because of Ben Platt lol I would love to see it even if Evan is played by someone I don't know.

I'm saying this as someone who hates the show outside of his performance so we'll agree to disagree haha. I think a weaker actor will make the character come across as completely unlikeable and unsympathetic.

What makes you think a non-Platt would necessarily be weaker?

What makes you think a non-Platt would necessarily be weaker? I think it's just one of those rare cases where the actor fits the role perfectly and wont be matched. When I was waiting in the box office the other day, I saw 3 different groups of people ask when the next standard priced tickets were available and leave when they found out it would be after Platt had left the show.

I think you're wrong. Another young actor could work wonders in this role. What makes you think a non-Platt would necessarily be weaker? I think it's just one of those rare cases where the actor fits the role perfectly and wont be matched.

Well opinions are a marvellous thing! I think Platt makes the role what it is, on paper the character is highly unlikeable.

Errr, excuse me. I have been the first on many occasions to break news on shows here- have you? No, didn't think so. Re sources- a large number of my closest friends work on these west end shows and so do I. I have a lot more information than you and of course I'm not going to name sources. I'm more than happy to reveal some things here as it's always exciting to hear what's coming up. Some things I won't/can't talk about. Don't believe me but I'll let you apologise when Comet gets announced any day now. Likewise Tina at the Aldwych. Likewise Strictly Ballroom at the Phoenix. You're welcome. Hold on, wait, what? Has Great Comet really booked its WE theatre? I woudln't take his comments too seriously. No source, its just rumours. Plus the only theatre it could really go into with its design is somewhere like the New London as it change design of the auditorium for different productions all the time.

I'd take Strictly Ballroom for the Phoenix - I don't want The Girls to close - but that is a replacement I'd be happy with. Tina at the Aldwych, less happy, but could be worse.

And you don't know if/how much information I have on any upcoming shows so its not really right to say that.

Do you work in theatre? Do you have close friends involved the west end? Shall I stop revealing some of the information I have? Happy to do that if you're just going to act like I'm making stuff up. Didn't say you were making stuff up.
And furthermore, I do have friends that work in the West End. But I respect their jobs and choose to not divulge information that they have passed on to me.

Ok I'm not going to reveal anything else ever again!
And it's not about respecting (or not) their jobs. I'd never say something on here that I was specifically told was to be kept secret.

I'm not trying to be a dick to you or what you know love, I'm really not. I mearly just meant in my initial comment before all this "wait until a source, until then take as gossip" because that is the usual train of thought on this board. It has nothing to do with you personally, it is said on this board all the time.

I have doubts about Dear Evan Hansen coming to London but wouldn't be at all surprised if it did. However I would be shocked if Great Comet came to London and had a theatre already sorted. I just cannot see it appealing to a West End Audience at all!

Well it is and I'm with you- unless Groban does it here, I can't see who on Earth it would appeal to. Even with him , it will struggle. It will appeal to people that like good/innovative theatre. Yes absolutely! I hope it comes over as I would love the chance to see it. But a musical adaptation of War and Peace might be a hard sell to your average West End audience member

I do know many people who love "good /innovative" theatre who didn't like it.. I include myself in that. Just to be fair.

If it flops, that would be one expensive flop!
This thread really should be moved to the rumoured thread, it is a lot more about currently rumoured transfers with no official confirmation than just Dear Evan Hansen!

Well duh. I'm not so insane that I think just because I don't like something, it's not or shouldn't be successful. Thriller Live is also selling well.
