Kylie is known for not being able to sing live (similarly to Britney) so I don't actually think she'd be great for a musical Kylie sings live at every performance. She has always done so in Australia. This is something she has carried on over here. Whilst miming may be acceptable in America or here, it is not in Australia. Anyone caught miming in Australia, regardless of who they are or how 'big' they are, will be named and shamed. Can't comment on Brittney.

She isn't known for miming at live shows, and believe me I've seen her four times and she sang live on every occasion. She can be forgetful of her own lyrics though. whilst I agree with Anthony, miming hasn't been seen as acceptable in this country in more recent years. Steps, for example, openly admitted to lip syncing sduring their tours in the nineties, but had to resort to actually singing live during their recent reunion tour, as it was (quite rightly so) no longer seen to be the done thing.

Kylie is known for not being able to sing live (similarly to Britney) so I don't actually think she'd be great for a musical I'm sorry but that just isn't true. Admittedly she isn't the world's best singer (and neither would she claim to be) but she does what she does incredibly well and over the years Kylie has built up rather a good reputation as a terrific live performer. Having seen her live in various formats over the years I can attest that she can absolutely sing live and do it very well. To compare her to Britney is actually insulting.

Does the 'celebrity' in the show make you want to go and see it? I know that there has been a rise in 'TV stars' and even Hollywood film stars treading the boards. Does this make people want to see productions that they normally wouldn't go and see? I am actually writing my dissertation on this very topic! If you would like to take part in my survey you can! Here is the link: goo.gl/forms/zpubo2ENvrO3h70m1It would be really interesting to know what theatregoers think about celebrities in theatre productions.

By the way - I am definitely going to see Sheridan Smith in Funny Girl. This is a production that I never would have gone to see if she wasn't in it.

Just filled it in. Good luck with the dissertation! I think it really depends on the celeb though. A celeb like Ruth Wilson going in to Hedda Gabler is a bit different than last year's Xfactor runner up or someone off of Made in Chelsea (although I have seen performers from these sorts of things give decent performances soo...). The way 'celebrity' is defined is key.

The way 'celebrity' is defined is key. Definitely agree with this. I like how plays now in London get huge names to appear in them but they aren't just any names they are really big actors who do the job extraordinary. It's so nice seeing a well known actor/actress in a good play. With musicals, you do get more "household" names but I agree I have seen performers from TV do a very good show and thing is around half the people they cast from TV have had some sort of training in MT beforehand anyway
