What about "The Maids"? Was it eligible last season or it opened after the deadline?

If Helen Mc Crory doesn't get something I shall start to wonder just how fixed these awards are. She deserved for Medea and is a good shot with Deep Blue Sea.

I wonder if there will be any nods for Doctor Faustus? Jenna Russell was pretty terrific, and I enjoyed Kit too. I thought the set and lighting was great also.

After seeing it last night, I think Funny Girl is bound to get the best musical revival award?! I presume it'll be up against Showboat and JCS. Sheridan does deserve an Olivier too, in my opinion

Oh dear George, your self imposed embargo didn't last long did it?
You have to add Suset Boulevard, Rent and The Last 5 years into the mix and very possible Half a Sixpence.
A nice problem to have.

Oh dear, I'm back - big deal. What's the matter with that? You have to remember that Sunset Boulevard, Rent, Last 5 Years and Half a Sixpence might not be eligible because of the venues they are in. I am allowed my opinion that Funny Girl should win, even if this is "your" list

Show Boat should win that award, but I'm not even sure it will be nominated since it closes 8 months before the ceremony... Hopefully they will remember about it.
If it's eligible, sunset will get a very well deserved nod (and possibly win) in the best actress category but there was nothing else to celebrate in that production. It was not even fully staged so I'm not even sure if it counts as a revival, the direction was a pain in the neck and Michael Xavier was an embarrassment. I really doubt it will be a Best Revival contender.

Not 42nd Street that was 'rumoured' to go into the Theatre Royal or even best musical Wind in the Willows that is all set for the London Palladium? But then again we are all not so lucky to be connected as you are!

But then again we are all not so lucky to be connected as you are! Well like I said, they could not be in the thestres by the cut off dates. Please don't be sarcastic or patronising, you get very defensive on this thread. Believe what yoy want, I know that I have contacts. Anyway, all I did was come on this thread to say how I thought Funny Girl and Sheridan were worthy Olivier winners and you change the subject completely!!

Oh back off, Phantom, it's a discussion board, people are allowed to share their opinions on a topic, and it would be nice to make George feel welcome back - as he is - rather than pettily needling him into leaving again. If you're aiming for a light-hearted teasing, your tone hasn't quite worked and you may wish to add a winky face or two. If you're aiming for anything else, then maybe reconsider, 'cos right now you're coming across as kinda mean.

But then again we are all not so lucky to be connected as you are! See! 42nd Street is going to Drury Lane! I wasn't talking rubbish. However, that opens too late to be considered for an Olivier in 2017 which means the 4 shows considered (in my own opinion) will be: •Funny Girl •Jesus Christ Superstar •Showboat I'd like to say The Bodyguard but I'm not sure if that's eligible? Same with Sunset?

You were right George,my our sources are impeccable.
After seeing Superstar last night, this is the one to beat - this is going to give Sunset a run for its money, where I think Sunset will now just get best leading actress.

I think Best Revival category will be:
Show Boat Funny Girl Jesus Christ Superstar Half a Sixpence
I'd like for Show Boat to win, but it's all very political and a Superstar upset wouldn't surprise me!

Could Breakfast at Tiffany's nab a Costume Design nomination? They are beautiful! By the sounds of it it hasn't got a hope of any others but I will reserve judgement until I see it on Wednesday.

Aren't you forgetting Sunset Boulevard? So with Sunset Boulevard we can all be agreed, that we have had 5 very strong revivals? A great problem to have. Generally the best lighting awards are won by plays, along with most of the creative awards, I know the last 2 years lighting has been won by a musical, however given the reviews for jesus Christ Superstar and how Lee Curran's lighting design has been singled out for praise, I now wonder if this is the frontrunner? I still believe that the play and musical creative awards should be seperated, just like the Tony Awards.

By all means, nominate the performers, but it was hardly a complete production!

I am sure Billie Piper will take best actress
The role is very similar stylistically to PPP
It is an excellent performance
And she deserves it
I think it is a harder role to play than Hester Collyer as well although Helen McCrory is a truly excellent actress

Best Actress I think could be:
•Billie Piper •Glenda Jackson •Helen McCrory
Then possibly Norma Dumezwemi or Lily James?

Chicago was/is a semi staged production and won both the Oliver and Tony.
Lily James didn't get good reviews.

After seeing it tonight, I would like The Bodyguard to receive (being realistic too) a nomination for Beverley Knight. I could see that happening, and well deserved too! Also I wouldn't be surprised if it picked up a Best Lighting Design nom too, as I was really impressed there! I don't think it will get a Revival nod personally, which is a shame as I would like it too. But it was only nominated for Best New Musical three years ago (four years by the time 2017 comes) which is not long ago. Also, despite some changes for the better, it is very much the same production as the original, so nothing has really been revived, it has just come back to London after going on tour for a bit.

Oh I completely agree, I think it getting any nominations is a long shot in all honesty. But being realistic, if it were to be nominated for anything, I think it would be either lighting or Beverley, if anything.

Maybe there should be a new category for keeping massive houses occupied for more than one night a week
