La Paige will be performing several weekend shows in her new 'Stripped Back' tour for those who love a bit of Elaine: www.elainepaige.com/2016/03/elaine-paige-stripped-back-a-series-of-weekend-concerts-for-2016/When I heard she was going to perform numbers by contemporary songwriters I did have a secret hope that she'd have a go at the likes of Beyonce, Miley Cyrus and Rihanna but alas, it's more Lennon & McCartney, Elton John and Harry Nilsson so my dream of Elaine performing 'Single Ladies' complete with hand switching will have to wait a little longer.

So the farewell tour was only farewell to "touring" and not farewell to going round the country performing on weekends?
Hmmmmm.
One could say that the diminutive chanteuse has played a blinder there.

They all do it. I remember going to see Shirley Bassey's farewell concert at the RAH at least 20 years ago (she was supported by the New Seekers so that will give you a clue how long ago it was) and she is still treading the boards.

I wish she could find one final role to play, such a shame that her swan song seems to have been drowsy chaperone

She's touring more now that she isn't touring than when she was touring!

Not sure whether to buy tickets to this, as it doesn't sound like songs from the shows. Please can someone who attends one of the earlier concerts in the series post their thoughts/ the song list she sings etc. Thanks

There will be a mix of many songs she hasn't sung before from her own favourite songwriters along with the big musical ones that are expected from her such as 'Memory' if that's any help to you now.

Ok, so only a handful of show songs with most being from her favourite songwriters so mainly 60's/70's. It's a great show and fun to see her doing new material rather than the same show ones but if that's what you prefer maybe not your thing. All I can say is that the audiences seem to enjoy it judging by the reaction at Canterbury on Sunday.

Could you post a song list please? I took your advice in your previous post and booked a ticket to the Birmingham concert. A song list would be great please.

Hi Clair. Only just got your message - sorry. I generally read the site here without logging in, so only got your message last night just before the concert. Did you enjoy the show? I did, though it was different to what I expected. I sat in the circle (the second tier). Hope you enjoyed the show too.

Elaine used to be a fabulous singer but after watching her squawk through 'Don't Cry For Me Argentina' at last year's Olivier concert, all I can say is, for heaven's sake, stop.

One of the great things about listening to the Elaine Paige Show on Radio 2 and it being available on BBC Iplayer for a month to download. The show introduces me to songs from shows/films that I wouldn't listen to and have been guided to some great music over the years, which has made me, to go purchase and listen to the whole recording. Also the show plays firm favourites of mine.
It also helps me to kill a two hour daily commute.
Elaine has recently started playing, songs from shows but in a different language, generally one every two weeks, so far this has been;
I wouldn't ordinarily go out and listen to these songs, so it's a treat to have these played and listen to see how beautiful they sound in a different language.
Now I wouldn't be tempted in purchasing a whole cast recording in a different language, but love hearing the odd popular song done.
I gather there hasn't been too many cast recordings translated, also this only works if you are very familiar with the song in English. Well done to Jessica Rickson, Elaine Paige's hard working producer, who must spend hours searching for these gems.
Just want to get your thoughts if you have heard these and what maybe you might like to hear in another language? I would love to here from the Lion King - Can You Feel The Love Tonight, maybe in Japanese.

Interesting thread. I didn't know EP had started to play foreign cast recordings.
I have many, many recordings of Superstar in different languages. I suppose what makes a single recording or track stand out for me, when I don't understand any of the language, are the orchestrations. Some of these are completely different from the original.
I used to collect all the Les Mis recordings (from Dress Circle) but stopped a few years ago. Most of the orchestrations sound very similar, with the sound engineer doing most of the work to make them sound different. (The Korean version is the exception, sounding like an old Music For Pleasure recording!) However, there are one of two stand out recordings- the French cast sound just gorgeous, and being able to understand a bit of what they're singing makes for an interesting experience. (No tigers but wolves in I Dreamed a Dream, a more appropriate image...)
And the fabulous Tommy Korberg is the best Valjean after our own Colm Wilkinson. His version of Bring Him Home is sublime!

I really enjoy that Elaine has started doing this - because I’m one of those crazy people that has nothing better to do, with the help of Willemijn Verkaik , I learnt to sing Defying Gravity in both German and Dutch, so that’s always fun when she plays that!

I could be wrong but the Wicked track is possibly German as there's no Dutch cast recording.
But good for her. International cast recordings are fabulous.
