Dashed my hopes of Nikki Bentley making a triumphant return as Elphaba but exciting nonetheless. I suppose I'll be seeing this a few time now, anything to see Nikki in a show 😍

Anyone seen the opening night in Dartford? Seen pictures of the new costumes and that’s about it. Fingers crossed the bus is decent!! Not seeing it until Bristol May 2020!

That reviewer seemed a bit miffed about not getting press comp tickets.

Listening to that review it sounds pretty good. I do love this show and looking forward to it. Anyone have any info about it yet. Is the bus good ? Do the Divas still fly ? What are sets like ?

The bus is wheeled on to the stage in pieces and is a pale shadow of the West End one. No flying and a basic set. The bus Priscilla is hardly on stage at all and barely mentioned.
Cast and costumes are great though and the show is very funny. Even more of a jukebox musical than I recall from previous productions, with no more than a few minutes between musical numbers, including several that are of no relevance to the story. They just happen, to fit in another song and dance routine.
Pure escapist entertainment. Standing ovation tonight at Dartford. 8/10 from me.

Does anyone really still give a flying Four X about the West End bus? It’s a decade ago. I never saw it and I’m sure it was all kinds of fabulous but 99% of the people booking tickets for this tour really really don’t care about @ bus that was seen in a London production ten years ago.

I agree, Burly. I actually dislike that bus intensely as it malfunctioned and caused the show to be cancelled after 30 minutes when we first saw Priscilla in the West End. That was back when we had to arrange childminding to go to the theatre so it was extremely annoying at the time. The show is fabulous, the bus isn't, but I doubt if that will bother many people.

I saw a fantastic amateur production at my local town hall couple years back and loved it more than the recent tours they still had the flying divas and a decent Priscilla bus very impressive... production values were better than the Jason /Duncan tour .... if a local amateur company can do it in a small town ...... 👍

Thanks for the reply. That's sounds kind of disappointing about the Divas and bus.
And yes the bus does make the show. The last UK tour had it kind of right almost. I understand they cannot have a bus like the London one on tour but its like seeing the Phantom and not having the boat scene.

The bus in pieces sounds like what happened in an amateur production I saw at the Bridewell Theatre a couple of years back. By a group called Sedo’s. The parts of the bus were in the set and they came together to form the skeleton of the bus. I didn’t think it would work when I first saw it but it actually was a clever way to use the reduced space they had. Guess the tour are thinking along the same lines.

When I saw the original production someone came onstage before it started & explained that the bus was playing up so they had had to rechoreograph & we wouldn't be seeing her do all she was supposed to so I won't be missing anything.

We got to see the show along with a full refund. Tbh if they hadn't told us it wasn't working properly we'd never have known as they worked round it so well

"Due to indisposition, at today's performance the role of the bus will be played Early Learning Centre."

They said about refunds but I had booked with a group [Dress Circle] & so didn't get the chance. Anyway saw this yesterday at Dartford & was really looking forward to seeing it again. But I came away feeling disappointed. Don't know why really. It just didn't seem to have the spark of the original. The costumes weren't so good & kept noticing bits missed from the original.

Just seen another pic of the finale. The costumes look awful, the iconic 'Opera House' costumes have gone and one of them is wearing a dress of Foster beer cans

The costumes really are terrible, the hair head pieces are even worse. A friend of mine went the other night and said they have butchered the show. So this tour has nothing to do with the official / original show ?

So this tour has nothing to do with the official / original show ? I saw the professional production of Priscilla at the Queen's Theatre in Hornchurch in May 2018. From my diary notes it was just as I recalled it from the West End and previous tours. Impressive bus too. What I saw at Dartford recently felt different. It seemed to be a succession of musical numbers with very little between them and Priscilla the bus has become just a stage prop, not the centrepiece. The audience there loved it and I found it entertaining but not quite as much as I had hoped and expected.
