I did think the Novello. Outside of DMT the Aldwych would fit. Unless they buy a new theatre.

I think The Gielgud is probably more likely as it’s the most similar to the Queens but I wouldn’t rule out the Novello. It’s unlikely to go bigger Your probably right but I wonder what will go into the Queens hopefully if successful Moulin rouge I can also see Anastasia going in their

I took it from reading the article that Les Mis will be returning to the Queen's once the work there is done. I'd say it could go the Gielgud temporarily or maybe back to the Barbican for a few months? I agree the new film will probably give Mamma Mia a boost over at the Novello so can't see it leaving there just yet.

Mamma Mia has also just finished a really long UK tour so a lot of people will have seen it regionally, but the new movie will probably help them shift tickets.
I'd say the Gielgud is the most logical venue to go to because it's literally the same building, so they won't need to move the sets, costumes across the city.

I imagine Cameron will probably want a new show to reopen the Queens but it’s hard to know. Wasn’t Cameron planning at one stage, restore the original frontage of the Queens which was destroyed in the Blitz and replace with the current frontage?

I really hope Cameron doesn’t use the move to implement the production changes to match the touring version.
The Queens is the only one that still uses the revolve and counts as the original Trevor Nunn production.
I’m guessing they’d need to stick to that or lose the “world’s longest running musical” tag. Hopefully that’s enough to stop him tinkering 😄

I’d say keep the same set/logistics, but just move them over to the Gielgud for an interim period, and they can go back into the Queen’s for when it’s been refurbished.

It’s a result of the original facade and FOH being destroyed in WWII. It should look like the Gielgud. About ten years ago, Cameron had plans to restore the facade to its original and buy the restaurant in between the theatres, thus returning the complete building to its original state. That was when he was also planning the Stephen Sondheim Theatre on the roof. Obviously that plan has now changed and the Ambassadors will become the Sondheim.

Question one thing mentioned is to restore the orginal boxes and loges. Now I have no idea what the theatre looked like so can anyone tell me where that is in the theatre. Is it where the slips are or is it the on stage side that are used in the show for characters to enter/exit and top left for when use the offstage gunshots.

Les Miserable is still selling very well and you cannot get discounts easy, the longer it has run the more popular it has got, due to the downsize, 25th anniversary celebration, movie and Susan Boyle all adding to the popularity.
It doesn't have to move to the a Mackintosh theatre, I think it would be good if it moved to a bigger theatre, such as The Picadilly or the Savoy Theatre.
God knows why his theatres need renovations, just wish his competitors took a hint.

I think it’s good that CM is renewing and modernising all his theatres so they’re fit for the future.
Compare that to ATG, who only seem to care about the Apollo Victoria, the Lyceum and some of their regional venues.

Personally I think Les Mis should go bigger. It's a big production, it regularly sells out and would look great in a big house - I would love to see it in the Prince Edward.

ATG do refurbish their theatres, they did a great job on the Harold Pinter but they normally do it in stages rather than in one go Love Les Mis but I never felt it was the same in the Queen's - not sure why, just something about that theatre I don't warm to. That's true for many shows, i think Mamma Mia! was the same once it moved to the Novello.

It might be that you get used to seeing it in the same place so often, so it just doesn't feel as familiar or comfortable in another space.

Indeed familiarity can be a strong thing.
But there is a certain way certain shows seem to just really fit certain theatres and feel right there. (I think this has been discussed on this board somewhere). And for me Les Mis at the Palace was one of those!

I actually think The Prince of Wales would be perfect for it. Great capacity, sightlines and that lovely wide proscenium. It would also get rid of The Book of Mormon. Not going to happen though, obviously!

I completely agree. I've seen Les Mis at the Queen's more times than I saw it at the Palace (last time there was 19 years ago), but the Queen's has always lacked something for me. Maybe it's the size, maybe it's the facade and signage at the front, or maybe it's just nostalgia. But I would really like to see Les Mis in a theatre like the Prince Edward or Theatre Royal, Drury Lane (as Harry Potter is going nowhere, to give it it's old home back). As someone said, it still regularly sells out at the Queen's, but maybe Cameron won't want to take the risk of going bigger.
I saw on Twitter, in a now deleted tweet, the date of June 2019 for the move. To coincide with the cast change?

All of these for me! Also I always go for aisle seats so MUCH prefer theatres with centre aisles - otherwise I always have an extreme side on view.

Went to the show again on Saturday. First time seeing Bradley and while I absolutely appreciate he is a good performer with an incredible voice I'm afraid for me he simply is no Javert (yet). He looks way too young and the "older Javert" make up looks really unnatural on him. Also in my opinion he isn't intimidating enough - I didn't believe Jean Valjean would ever run from this man. Having said that this is his first week in the show coming straight our of Wicked. So I'm hoping he will grow into the role a bit more with time. He certainly can belt out "Stars", I do give him that.

Once he has settled in, I'm sure he'll become more "menacing" as Javert. To be REALLY fair... There is no actor in The West End or Broadway who is simultaneously a Fiyero and a Javert. It's utterly bizarre casting. That won't change, no matter how he settles into it. Bradley has a great voice, but his Javert is just like his Enjolras - physically beautiful and loud, all the time. To me, he looks like an actor who knows he is wrong for the role, and is overcompensating by being really shouty and really broody, all the time. Chisnall's excellent Valjean eats him alive. Now, of course, none of this is Bradley's fault - he's an actor who has been offered a role and accepted it. But it's a farce that anyone thought someone who was Enjolras 2 years ago, and then Fiyero, and is shorter than Marius, would make a good Javert. The first cover, James Hume, who I saw a few weeks ago, is in a different league.

Whenever I see him, I’ll probably still have the image of his Fiyero in my head. Whenever I see a performer that I’ve seen in another show, I always somehow just think it’s their old character.

I saw the first understudy Javert, James Hume, for the first time last night. Extremely impressive performance! Wonderful voice and great acting. Him and Dean work really well together, too. Guess I’ll just schedule my visits when Bradley is on holidays from now on.
