Just discussing this show with some friends who also saw it. Is it eligible for the Oliviers? I felt that the lighting and projections in particular deserved some sort of nod. I assume it would be eligible? As In the heights was and its part of the same complex?

What is this obsession with putting shows on in tents?! Friday's performance was ruined by fireworks, car alarms, outside shouting and the pumping baseline of In The Heights' 96,000 during the quiet moments. So disappointed. This show could have had it's pick of a West End venue and instead opted for a tent. I do not get it. Somehwere like the Old Vic would have been perfect. The rake is also appallingly bad and if you're at the back, I imagine you'll miss quite a lot of moments on the floor.
The show itself was ok. Not my kind of thing. Michael C Hall is excellent and I imagine he'll walk away with the Olivier, and deservedly so. The Girl and the Valentine also brilliant. Jamie Muscato and Amy Lennox woefully underused.
Adored the homage to Bowie at the end.
3 stars.

I was shocked by how little Jamie Muscato featured. All The Young Dudes was sung wonderfully, but that couple came out of nowhere and were barely on stage.

I wonder how Michael will fare come award season? As he received both a Lucille Lortel and Drama Desk nomination in America for his role in this. If he is as good as I have heard, he could well join the list that likely already includes Andy Karl and Charlie Stemp.

Does anyone know how much they are checking tickets / ID currently? I'm giving my tickets to my brother but am worried they won't let him in!

They didn't check my ID when I went the other week. But I know that some friends have had their ID checked on other days. I would definitely check with the box office in advance.

You can ring the theatre to let them know so they can change the name (this topic is addressed in the FAQ on the website)

Where are the lottery seats allocated? I won but the email doesn't specify a seat Thought they were meant to be front row? Have you won for today? They are notifying people early, I thought normally it was around 2pm when they let people know.

I was informed I won while I was trying to get a rush ticket for Ragtime at 10!

Those of you that have seen this - is it essential to have watched The Man Who Fell To Earth prior to seeing this? I tried watching it a few years back and to tell the truth, I got bored and stopped watching after about 45 minutes or so, but some of the comments and reviews I've seen are making me feel that I should watch it all the way through to get the most out of this (not seeing it for another 6 weeks or so, so no immediate rush) but I don't fancy forking out top dollar to buy it on DVD.

I had never seen it and understood (as much as could be understood) what was going on. There's a bit of a monologue about a quarter of the way through which tells you what the synopsis basically says in more detail, which seemed to be a way of catching up those who didn't know what was happening, so I think you'll be fine.

The Wikipedia page doesn't have a synopsis for Lazarus, sadly. Edit: But the movie does of course! Sorry, lack of sleep has made me particularly oblivious, it seems!

Swathes of unsold tickets
Along with reviews that are hardly raves
And quite possibly the sh*ttest ever venue I have ever been to
This is laughable from start to finish
Have people ACTUALLY paid to see this?

What happened to the theatre being an experience
A building with character
Enjoying the evening (or matinee)
Relaxing
The venue is like a cinema devoid of any character purpose or meaning
It's the tackiest kind of theatre and shameful

I would add that both this and the Donmar plays are far from sold out

Thanks guys, I know the music used in the play so it won't be the end of the world if it doesn't make much sense, I can just enjoy the music. I know the general idea/plot of TMWFTE so I won't be completely in the dark.

What do we think are the chances of tickets getting reduced on the website closer to showtime? has anyone noticed this happening so far?
I entered the lottery today and got a notification saying I didn't win but I could buy tickets through todaytix for £25. I went in as soon as I got the notification but it said that allocation was sold out.

UGH, not a fan. The cast is great and so is the direction, visually it has its moment but what a nonsense. I can't believe the same person who wrote the beautiful book of Once wrote this pretentious horror. It's like a f*cked up version "the little prince", with shallow, trivial dialogues. And they should have cut several songs, they didn't add anything to the story and they all sound the same. The cast was very very good, I'd love to see Michael C. Hall in a good musical. He could be a great Ben in Follies.

Of course his songs DONT all sound the same I did not dislike the songs, but there are too many of them considering how slim the plot is, and most of them feel random and unrelated to what happens onstage. They made the most basic mistake a jukebox musical can make.

(I don't see this till 1st December) isn't this literally a jukebox musical met with avant garde though? This isn't Mamma Mia or Jersy Boys. It's a weird guy whom wrote a lot of weird songs whom wanted to write a weird play before he died to go with a lot of weird stuff he did.
I'm a Bowie fan but not the biggest. I'm just looking forward to seeing the last bit of art some guy created.

Same here, I've got a few Bowie albums, but never saw him live or would say I was one of his biggest fans, just interested to see what is being put on without being that interested that I'd pay a fortune for a premium seat.

I had never listened to his albums in my life
The music is inoffensive and even likeable in fact
The performances are good
It's just the story and cheap venue and staging which let it down

Stinker of a review by The Times and Evening Standard. Looks like this is another "marmite" show.

Does 'The Laughing Gnome' feature in this? That's my favourite Bowie song.
No Laughing Gnome. No Ryan.
