Sure i saw a tweet earlier saying it was earlier. Film one of the London ticket sites. But now I can find no mention of it. I think it mentioned January? Don't know if it was a mistake or released earthly?

Just found tweet. According to London theatre booking, it is closng on January 7th!
Does this mean we will get the Sondheim theatre Cameron wants to build?

So happy. They've already got the bins, so get out shouldn't be too hard.

They were originally booking until April 2018 but they've taking those dates off sale so I'm guessing they are closing at the Ambassadors, I wonder if any of the off West End theatres could possibly house them or another small West End theatre.
It'll be good to see the Sondheim is coming into fruition, it's been a long gestating project for Cameron Mackintosh

I doubt it will find a new home in London, touring will be more likely.

I doubt it will find a new home in London, touring will be more likely. It tours already, I wouldn't rule out Stomp finding a new home in London even though I think it has run long enough in the West End. If only we could get rid of Thriller and The Woman in Black..

I know it tours already haha, but a continuation of said tour. If it does stay in London, it won't be in the near future, as all the houses are currently full or have productions planned to go in anyway, and it would die a death in a big house.

enough already with Stomp. The West End needs its smaller playhouses for PLAYS not tourist attractions. Though maybe Cameron has plans to cut down Les Miz even more and move it in after Stomp... nothing would surprise me.

Maybe they'll invest in some proper instruments, rather than expect the cast to perform the score using bin lids, if the show does have a future life.

I know we shouldn't be happy about the closure of any show, but this one really outstayed it's welcome. Hoping the Ambassadors goes back to hosting some small scale plays and musicals again that wouldn't otherwise have a chance at a west end run.
Can Thriller please follow.

Looking back over old articles about Cameron Mackintosh's plans for the Ambassadors, I'd say it looks very much like he is on schedule to convert it into the Sondheim theatre, a reconfigurable space for receiving shows from out of town that may or may not have come from a theatre with a proscenium arch. I don't think he'll be in a hurry to announce the first productions in there after the Hamilton palaver but at least it's all happening now.
I wouldn't be surprised to see Stomp take up residence in somewhere like the Arts Theatre, but not on a permanent basis.

But it would be nice to have it back on the play rota full time.

Quite. I’m off there this afternoon for NYT. This theatre really needs some refurbishment though. Let’s hope something decent emerges.

From what I can see, planning permission / listed building consent has not yet been granted by Camden Council.
I suppose everybody could be ready and waiting to mobilise on day one, or there could be a period of darkness, or there could be a short run of something.

I imagine planning permission must have been granted since Stomp is closing because the sale of the Ambassador and conversion to the Sondheim was subject to planning permission

I'm not sure Dame Cameroon would be the first person I'd approach to refurbish a theatre at the mo.

Theatreboard celebration party for this closure? Would say wait till Thriller goes to but that may been many years, sadly.

Always sad for a cast and crew when a long runner shuts up shop, but Stomp has had a more than decent 15 year run, and closure is, in my view, good for the ecology of the West End. Here's hoping the Sondheim gets the green light asap and that we get some brilliant stuff in!

The Arts Theatre and the Charing Cross Theatre would take Stomp in a shot.
Maybe Cameroon Mackintosh's theatre is going to become a reality, good news this is going to become free, so this theatre with the new Bridge Theatre and the replacement for the Astoria, there is a good start 2 theatre, plus 1 refurbishment. What else do you want?

I think the Arts and Charing Cross are better kept as venues that do short runs personally.
