So, it should be able to transfer to Broadway!

The screening tonight was extraordinary - the vocal dexterity and stamina is beyond comprehension, and gloriously informative and inventive. Truly theatre at its' best. and gorgeous to look at with that monochrome.

I came on this board to write something but I feel that Crabtree summed it up perfectly.
As I set off on a blisteringly hot evening to watch the screening (thankfully the local arts centre was air-conditioned), I thought "This had better be worth the effort." When I returned home, I thought: "It certainly was."

Totally agree! When I saw it at the Piccadilly 2 weeks ago I sat at the back of the Upper Circle. It was great to see their performances in close up.
Examples: SRB as Philip struggling to remember the list of cities, AG's astonishing twisting-to-death in Pt 3 (the whole-body movements were clear enough from the UC, but the distorted movements of his hands and face looked frightening in closer view!)

This is defiantly transferring to Broadway.
It will be a tough battle for Best Play up against The Inheritance..

Saw this last night on an NT Live Encore screening at my local cinema. I really enjoyed it - it gave me a lot to chew on, and I'm still thinking about that last scene 24 hours later.

Wasn’t this announced for the Gillian Lynne after the Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe?
I thought this was great watching the NT Live broadcast, so might consider seeing it on stage.

I think it will look great at the Gillian Lynne. Wonder how long the run will be.

It is good, but again? It is a good vehicle for three blokes…. Yes, and I'd rather see all of them in something new.

I could be wrong but I'd imagine SRB and Adam Godley are ready to move on at this stage.

I could be wrong but I'd imagine SRB and Adam Godley are ready to move on at this stage. Yes, I wonder if SRB will get more film offers after his Tony. I enjoyed The Outfit this year and he was the best thing about Benediction, I thought. According to imdb.com he is filming in a couple of UK-based things at the moment but I wouldn't be surprised if Hollywood comes calling.

I can't imagine SRB is going to become the next Mark Rylance, I imagine he'll get more screen work but he's always been someone who is more of a theatrical beast.

I wonder if they’ll announce casting before or after starting to sell tickets.

Any guesses on who could potentially take over the roles? Would Adrian Lester reprise his role that he performed on Broadway over to the West End?

I imagine he'll get more screen work but he's always been someone who is more of a theatrical beast. Not by choice I don't think, he's mentioned it in interviews, implied stage work doesn't pay well. I think there are very few stage actors, and no stage directors, who wouldn't rather be working in film.

Quite a lengthy run of nearly 4 months. The new logo is nice, it's a mix of the Broadway artwork and the London artwork.

Just booked to see this in Feb 2023. Will be first time seeing the play. Either it's selling very well for presale or they are holding back seats for general sale.

Am I right in thinking this is likely to get NT Rush tickets available?

Am I right in thinking this is likely to get NT Rush tickets available? I would imagine so. I got them for £20 through NT rush when it was playing at the Piccadilly (good seats in Dress Circle)

This was originally an Italian play. It shows that there are contemporary European plays that will do well here, though you wouldn't know it from the programming of the UK subsidised sector who are in thrall to USA. When was the last big hit like this ?

This was originally an Italian play. Although I believe the Italian original was five hours long, and had a cast of about 30. It's quite a radical adaptation.

I suspect the answer to my question is 1996 when the French play Art opened in London. I was going to say Festen in 2004 but that was an adaptation of a Danish film rather than a play.
I could go on - when was the last time the NT staged a play by a living German writer ? Never ?

I suppose it depends how 'big hit' is defined, but Florian Zeller's was still in short trousers when Art arrived on these shores.
Are we including Irish playwrights? If we are, then there are works by Conor McPherson, Martin McDonagh and probably others I can't think of at the moment.
