Also, waving my British flag in happiness over The Play That Goes Wrong getting a Scenic Design nomination!

Also were people really expecting Amélie nominations? It was the worst reviewed musical of the season apart from Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.
Phillipa Soo probably would have been nominated in another year but her category was just too strong this time.

(am I a freak that Amelie holds zero interest? clearly not for the Tony committee either...) Haha, no! I hated the very idea of an American Amelie musical the moment it was announced. The movie was perfect in its quirky Frenchness and just one of these little perfect gems that should be left alone. I'm kinda glad and relieved that most people seem to agree with me!

There aren't that many surprises here.
I'm a bit surprised Miss Saigon got any nominations at all. Otherwise, between all the speculations thrown on this board, there are hardly any surprises.
Being slightly ADD, and really not caring about non-musicals, I wish they'd categorize the nominations in such a way that are musical related versus non-musical related, including all the sub-categories such as actors/tresses and supporting roles.
Good luck to everyone!

There seems to be an agreement of surprise over Mike Faist of Dear Evan Hansen getting into Featured Actor on other Boards, especially as he wasn't really in anyones predictions and not on the radar for one and it was such a packed catagory. But having seen videos of him in the show he is great and deserves it. Mainky happy to see Andrew and Brandon both nominated for Falsettos though in that catagory.

The biggest surprise in the musical side was the nom for Mike Faist, wasn't expecting at all.

Guys can we just take a moment to appreciate on Page 3 that I correctly predicted all 7 of Groundhog Day's nominations! I NEVER WIN!

I like when young people are recognized, but having seen Uranowitz, Steele and Rannells, he's - easily - the least worth of a nom of all 4.

Between the official bets and the alternates, I got every category right lol

Of course, with Lead Actress in a Musical, the four other women who aren't legends that were favourites potentially get nominated, I chose the two who didn't get nominated! Eva and Denee got in, but I predicted Laura and Christy for nominations. Ah well. I'm somewhat surprised Eva got in over Jon Jon though...

81% of my predictions are right. I think anything over 80% is pretty decent!
Personally think the Mike Faist nomination is off. He's just there. He does a fine job but any other actor could have done the same. John Bolton's work in Anastasia is better, as is the work of other contenders. I would say it's a sign of how much they love Dear Evan Hansen but then they didn't nominate it for Scenic Design which I thought they would.
And yeah Eva over Jon Jon makes no sense to me. He steals the show. I like Borle but I thought the general consensus was that he was mildly underwhelming in Falsettos compared to his usual standard.

They, basically, nominated the entire cast of Falsettos, so maybe he just went by lol
Funny thing: Les Mis also only got Revival and a nom for its lead star lol

Thrilled for the Falsettos noms - mainly in the Featured categories, I didn't mind if Borle got in or not but had really been hoping Rannells, Uranowitz and Block all did!

I still think it's between Creel and Steele for that category. Rannells and Uranowitz could very easily split votes.

Actually, a win from anyone from Falsettos would be an upset. Bay Jones is, easily, the front-runner and Collela is the alternate (and she's campaigning hard for this Tony) Also, it's really Steele vs Creel in featured actor, and I steel believe that Comet will get this major award.

Actually, I was trying to remember the last time that someone got a Tony for a closed musical, but I couldn't.

Fair enough - Come From Away is the one I haven't had the chance to see so didn't know what Collela's chances were. I am not really expecting Falsettos to win any of their categories, but I was just thrilled to see it get nominated. Unlike last year when I had strong feelings about the acting categories (mainly for Leslie Odom Jr. to win), this year I'm pretty happy with the nominations and just excited to see how it plays out.

Nice to see that 16/20 of the actresses nominated are over 40 (17? How old is Michelle Wilson?)
This would never happen at a Hollywood award show.

It's also crazy to think, if Groundhog Day gets the Grammy nomination and Andy gets nominated for an Astaire Award, he has been nominated for every major award you can be nominated for with musicals on Broadway and West End!

I really did not expect Groundhog Day to get so much love, I am absolutely thrilled! It is one of my favourite shows of all time and I am so happy it has been given Tony love. Really happy for Hello Dolly, Oslo, The Play That Goes Wrong and Miss Saigon! Shocked at the Sunset Boulevard snub, I thought it was a terrific production. Paramour, In Transit and Cats were predictable snubs, but sad nevertheless. I feel a little sorry for Phillipa Soo, but the show is not the best (to put it lightly) so to me it's clear why it was snubbed. I wasn't the biggest fan of Present Laughter, so surprised at the best revival nomination, but each to their own!

I feel sorry for Phillipa mainly because she has gone from the biggest hits of the decade to what is turning out to be one of the bigger flops.

Isn't it a bit shady that Laura Linney and Cynthia Nixon are in non-competing categories for 'The Little Foxes' when they alternate the same roles? Surely if one if classed as a lead, so should the other. THEY'RE PLAYING THE SAME PARTS!
Delighted for Lady Ehle getting yet another Tony nomination.

Isn't Tony eligibility determined by who played the part on opening night? Hence why each is eligible for only one of the two parts, even though that does seem very odd in this situation.

Surely if one if classed as a lead, so should the other. THEY'RE PLAYING THE SAME PARTS! It's apparently decided by who played which role on opening night. Tony voters will now have to arrange to see them when they are doing the same role they have been nominated for. EDIT: Mmmbop beat me to it!

There were like three performances the Tony committee could attend, so they ensured that it was three performances where Laura and Cynthia played the same roles. It was to make sure they got two nominations rather than have people see different performances and potentially splitting the vote and therefore getting no nominations or the other danger of them being nominated both in each category. but from what I have heard anyway, they went for Laura in the lead because she is stronger in that role and Cynthia is stronger in the supporting role.

Quite surprised about Mike Faist's nomination. He does a fine job- but is somewhat buried amongst the very emotional rest of the cast.
Interesting that everyone predicted that Lucas Steele would be nominated, and he was. I thought he was just fine, but quite forgettable. I sense that a million pretty boys could play the role better or worse. I haven't seen Gavin Creel yet, so I'll reserve my opinion until end of May. Generally, I really disliked Falsettos but I think Uranowitz and Rannells earned it more and acted their guts out.
Supporting actress I think should go to Rachel Jones. She totally nailed it. Stephanie was fine and literally carried the show on her shoulder for being the only non-jerk character, but didn't find her to be a game changer.
I think Mary Beth was added in, as I predicted, just to throw in some age diversity. That is not to say she isn't excellent in the role.
