Yes, Act 2 is much darker and more satisfying than the more frothy first. I couldn't help bring reminded of the story in {Spoiler - click to view} Brokeback Mountain

Once in a while a new musical comes along that is really strong both in writing and production and this is one of them. Really good on so many levels but especially the casting of the two leads. They are both excellent and pair together beautifully Go go go. I was moved and adored it while my mate was sobbing into wine for the last 30 odd minutes I usually have a heart of stone but this even had me in tears. Andy and Scott were wonderful together, I definitely need a return trip.

Saw this on Wednesday evening and really enjoyed it. Full of emotion and energy and paced quite well. It is hot in there...especially on the stage! Enjoyed the journey and hope to make it back before it closes. Charing Cross is back on track!

I'm going to see this on Saturday, I know next to nothing about it so it's good to hear the positive reviews on here.

Enjoyed this last night, it really touched me emotionally - I hadn't realised until the end how much I'd connected with the plot and the characters. I think it's a good production of a good musical, with a few reservations. The songs are generally good, but I didn't find them super-memorable, and there's a few too many 'light' group numbers at points it could do with something heavier. I also found some of the songs we hear the soldiers listen to on the radio an unnecessary distraction. The first act is perhaps a little long and inconsequential in parts - I was getting rather restless by the interval (though partly for reasons I elaborate on below). I also felt that, at points, the production didn't make the most of its most emotional moments. I'll put this in spoilers, because the two following things are very important to the show - don't read the below if you're going to see the show!! {Spoiler - click to view} Firstly, Stu's arrest. "And then the bottom fell out of my life". That's fine. But then the actual arrest scene is quite quick and unthreatening, it doesn't have as much weight as it should do (possibly because the arrest itself is possibly a relief? Because I was worried that the 'bottom falling out of his life' was that Mitch was killed).
Similarly, at the end, Stu flies to Hawaii to meet the survivors of his squad. At this point, we as the audience don't know if Mitch survived or not. And when Stu gets there, Mitch has 'gone for a walk'. There's no big reveal for the audience of finding out whether Mitch survived, which should be a huge thing for Stu - and we don't see it. They're both arguably quite small points, but ones where I feel the show could make more of them, and deliver more of an emotional heft. Overall though, despite my reservations, I did enjoy the show, and I recommend it. It engaged emotionally, had REALLY great performances, particularly from the two leads, and gave me a lot to think about too. (What I didn't enjoy, and isn't a reflection on the show itself, is how HOT it was in the Charing Cross Theatre. It hasn't even been particularly hot weather this week, but it was absolutely stifling in there, really uncomfortable, particularly by the end of the first act, which probably contributed to me being rather restless at that point. The couple next to us left at the interval, and the gentleman next to my partner was clearly in some discomfort. They really need to sort that out, as I probably would have enjoyed the show more had I been physically more comfortable.)

Was really surprised that I couldn't find any offers for this anywhere, seeing as it looks like only a handful of tickets have been sold for a lot of performances this week. Also surprised that tickets aren't even available at all on a lot of the usual places (TodayTix etc). Messaged the Yank Facebook page and they told me the best offer they have at the moment is on fromtheboxoffice.com, just picked up a great stalls seat (right by the entrance door which will hopefully be a bit cooler!) for £19.50 😀

The same point re apparent lack of deals was made earlier and firefingers posted a link to the Time Out offer, though it may have expired.

It was close to full last Friday, so I assume they are hoping that they can still sell at full price through word of mouth. Definitely worth seeing!

That offer is also on Amazon Tickets, which is powered by fromtheboxoffice. Ah - I originally checked there and nothing came up when searching for 'Yank' - looks like their search engine is broken! I can see it now in the list of available shows, but sill doesn't come up when searching

Their Facebook page has just put up a link for best seats £17.50 How do you get this price? The link takes me to the normal page The benches at the side of the stage are £21 (minus £3 booking fee and 50p restoration fee = £17.50). It's a bit of a poorly worded statement and the key word is *FROM* £17.50 (but this price definitely isn't for the 'best' seats). The top price seats are still £43 at full price incl fees

Well. It's like From Homo to Eternity. I bet Tim Rice is spitting feathers he didn't write this one. Hot boys, uniforms, a bit of vest action, some gays, some laughs, some tears and A TAP ROUTINE! What more could you want? Some toe tapping tunes and a great cast (all with great voices) but standouts were Sarah-Louise Young and Scott Hunter who has a touch of the Gavin Creel about him I thought. And who wouldn't love a touch of Gavin Creel? But my absolute favourite was Chris Kiely as Artie. Not only did I love Artie as a character but he was just so effortlessly glorious playing him. He stole the show. He deserves to be in a big show in London's glitzy West End. {Spoiler - click to view} . . shame we didn't see him again after the arrest. And thanks to the Charing Cross Theatre for knowing its audience and employing the hottest hottie in hotsville on the bar. If the show wasn't so good I'd have propped up the bar all night. So to speak. Matron.

Enjoyed this very much and unfortunately still so pertinent today with Donald Trump "banning" transgender persons from the military in America - clearly we still have a long way to go......
I thought the show was melodic with great period style, with some good lyrics. Effectively staged, lit and costumed. A strong, affecting story very well sung by the entire company especially Scott Hunter and Andy Coxon as the leads.
A pity the audience was so sparse. On leaving I was given a voucher entitled "We want you! It's your turn to #jointhesquad". £10 off Premium and Band A seats for ALL performances across the rest of the run. Use code YANKRETURN to access the offer. This brings Band A tickets down to £22.50.
A real gem of a show, I thought.
The theatre was boiling hot - very uncomfortable apart from watching the sweat on all those male bodies in vests!!

Why is the theatre hot ALL the time even when it's not particularly hot outside?
Is there a glass blowing factory next door or something?

Well that's lovely. And if you take advantage of that very generous offer above, you should also buy a program from the box office, an ice cream from one of the delightful ushers and a drink from the hottie in the bar to support the show and the theatre. Of course, you really should pay full price for the ticket because it's very much worth it. It's a lovely little show AND YOU GET A TAP ROUTINE!

Really hope this gets a few more people through the door to see this as it's a great show. Paid full price and it was worth it.
In the interval one of the friends I went with leaned over to me and said "this is really good, I didn't realise it was a gay war romance". I was a bit surprised as I'd sent her link to the show. Turns out she never even reads the description of the stuff I send her. She says that it's always turned out well over the 25 odd years I've been booking for her so she just goes with whatever I suggest as long as she can do the date. Never knew that until now.....
