Loved Tarzan on Broadway. That, Newsies and Aida were my favourite Disney musicals - odd that they all never came to the UK in fringe, tour or full on West End productions. Shame Have Disney ever put a show into Fringe?

Shame Have Disney ever put a show into Fringe? Isn't Freaky Friday meant to be a new show that has small cast/band? That might work in fringe! I think Regent's Park would be a great place to bring Tarzan over here.

In the search for new (to me) and exciting shows, I've booked my flights and hotel along with tickets for Tarzan this Summer. It was the allure of original Broadway Tarzan Josh Strickland that pulled me in. We are in Oberhausen for two nights, and hope to spend the first day in Cologne - as it is the airport we fly into - looking for itinerary advice for both cities as TripAdvisor isn't offering up too much... Anything offered is greatly appreciated! Josh is only in the show until early August so hopefully your trip is before he leaves. Also he is off two shows per week, often Tuesday eve and Sunday matinee (subject to change). But then it is an interesting production even if he happens to not be on when you go. The staging especially is really well done. I've enjoyed the show having seen it both with Josh and with one of his understudies.

Oh thank you - seeing it on Weds 2nd August, so hopefully it will work out. Like you say though, the show itself is the biggest draw for me.

Steffi Do you when his last day specifically? I can't find much on the web, except from one article from February claiming he leaves on 01/08.

Will ask him and get back to you. I do know the next Tarzan will be Anton Zetterholm. I saw him during his original run in Hamburg back in the days and thought he was great.

Just a heads up for anyone planning to see Tarzan in Oberhausen in the upcoming months: Josh Strickland definitely finishes at the end of July, then Anton Zetterholm is taking over until early December, then Josh will be back for at least 3 months (maybe 6 months but that hasn't been decided yet).

@tom89 Turns out you have tickets for Anton Zetterholm's first show. Should be a good atmosphere that evening. :-)

@tom89, just a heads up: They've cancelled the show tonight due to a sprinkler fault in the theatre which kind of flooded the stage. Hopefully it will be fixed by tomorrow but they aren't 100% sure yet. Fingers crossed for you.

Judging by the announcement I'm not holding out much hope that *realistically* they will be able to dry out the stage and set if it's as bad as they say. 12:00 tomorrow is the moment I shall wait for with little anticipation.

If your show is really cancelled, head over to Bochum and see Starlight Express instead.
(but good luck!)

Apparently tomorrow is cancelled as well. But according to their Facebook page they have prepared a "surprise " for everyone who's affected. I guess they will do a little concert. At least that's better than nothing at all...

They're going to turn up the aircon system and perform the show on ice. I would actually pay to see this!

Well... it's been a mixture of feelings since my initial trepidations at the announcement last night, and disappointment this afternoon when tonight's performance was also confirmed as cancelled. The official Facebook page took quite a battering in the last two days from frustrated ticket holders - and unfairly so in my opinion. Whilst I understand that for many the trip has involved time off work, flights and hotels, no theatre calls off performances lightly. They still have staff to pay, as well as loss out on sales from refunds and exchanges. We arrived at the theatre at 6:30 and were greeted with complimentary drinks and apologies from the front of house staff with a form to complete and mail in to receive a refund or exchange. Less than thirty minutes later Anton appeared on a stage set up outside the main entrance with three musicians, singing numbers from the show alongside some appearances from his fellow cast members (and more apologising). He told us that two girls had travelled from Shang Hai tonight to see the show which really put it into perspective for me. My flight was less than an hour from Stanstead, and should I feel inclined, I could easily come back for a second attempt. The same unfortunately is more problematic for those two travellers though. After they performed, the four leads stood and signed complimentary programmes as a way of thanks, and they were all lovely. Anton also signed a photo of him in Tarzan makeup and costume as he doesn't appear in the programme yet. Their voices were incredible, and I feel genuinely pleased to have gone to the theatre still tonight, as the cast and theatre staff were amazing. It has definitely helped me consider a return to see this cast perform in their natural habitat soon, and I feel more than happy with their efforts all round.
Special thanks to viserys and Steffi who have helped me plan my visit and kept me updated along the way. You've honestly been invaluable, and I can't thank you both enough

Happy to hear you got to see the little performance and that they managed to at least slightly make up for the lack of a proper show. Hope you can come back and see the show.
If you want another attempt at seeing Josh wait until December at least. :-)

If you want another attempt at seeing Josh wait until December at least. :-) Well, I'm currently torn between arranging a trip to see Josh, as you say, or watching Anton in the role now that I've had a "taster" if you will How much longer is Anton with the show do you know and when is Mr Strickland due to return?

Josh returns early December. I think Anton might have another job lined up in late November so he could leave mid November. Not sure though. I'd say if you want to see Anton try and go before November (he does have a few holidays booked - check his Facebook page for those). For Josh early December till late February is the time to go - he might stay longer but that hasn't been decided yet.
And usually the understudies do Tuesday and one of the Sunday shows so try and avoid those days. :-)
And I think they are both really good so whatever you decide I'm sure you won't be disappointed. I saw Anton in Hamburg during his first run and really liked him. Personally I prefer Josh because a) he really has the most stunning voice and b) he is so incredibly detailed in his movements. However, Anton is the original German Tarzan (Swedish/German ;-) ) and I am really looking forward to seeing him again at some point this autumn.
