Last night of Christmas Carol at the Old Vic on Saturday. I enjoyed Rhys Ifans so much more than the early Stephen Tompkinson I saw in previews, so hope it's come together for him. Still a beautiful piece.

Les Miserables in London's glittering West End.

My Fair Lady at Cambridge and Kinky Boots at Canterbury Is that your first MFL of 2019?

Yes, I was beginning to suffer withdrawal symptoms. It was a really good one too and unusually for an amateur production has sold out its run at a sizable theatre. Also it's the longest running time of all the MFLs that I've seen - a hefty 3 hours 20 minutes!

Extra bits, long interval or slow singing?

Extra bits, long interval or slow singing? MFL usually lasts between 2 hr 45 and 3 hr. Started almost on time at 2.34pm, 20 minutes interval and the only extra at Cambridge was a brief whole cast reprise of I'm Getting Married.. after the bows so I was really surprised when I turned my phone back on as I left my seat and it was 5.53.

Also it's the longest running time of all the MFLs that I've seen - a hefty 3 hours 20 minutes! I was surprised to see on Twitter the other day that it had sold out. The last time it was done there, in 2009 in a pro-am production, it didn't get anywhere near selling out - I ended up seeing it 5 times in a week & had no problem getting decent seats at the last minute. I wonder why it's so much more popular this time round? To try to stay on topic: Today ENB Manon RB Asphodel Meadows/Two Pigeons Sunday ENB Manon (different cast) Bank Robbery Tuesday Aspects Of Love Alcina (concert SJSS) Wednesday Showstopper's 1000th performance

This week I am going to see Goodbye Molly at the Poolladium with Hettie Pidler in a revised production by Ivan na Moe where Molly gives up matchmaking and instead takes up policing threads of theatre forums where people outline their hopes of international transfers because hopes must never be voiced.
In a series of scenes Molly has to explain herself and her internet history with time stamps to weird avatars lest she'll be sent to Moderator Prison. Featuring classic numbers, So Long Threadie, you've been locked and It takes a moderator, It only takes one moaner to get a thread locked and Before the thread get's locked.
(Criticism of posters not moderators.)

The more times I see it the more I love it. I've booked MFLs in Penarth S.Wales on 28 February, Chelmsford on 1 March and Hertford on 5 March which will be a lot of travel but worth every rail and coach mile. I now notice the minor changes that are usually made, making each production unique. As to why it has sold out there were posters all over Cambridge for it, an advert in the free magazine and several coaches outside when I left the theatre on Thursday suggestng that the theatre and/ or the performing company are very effective in marketing !

I'd only intended to see it twice but then the title role ended up being shared between two actresses & the one I most wanted to see wasn't on either of the 2 performances I'd originally booked so I booked some more. It's the most I've ever seen 1 show in a week (not counting improv). That shows how rarely I go into central Cambridge nowadays, since the company I temp for moved further out (I spend far more time in central London!). It's good that the effort in advertising paid off in ticket sales. I hope you thought the production & performances were worth your journey.

Everybody's Talking About Jamie on Thursday, purely going to see John as Jamie again and to see Michelle so I'm hopeful they'll both be on. Taking a trip to Southampton on Saturday to catch American Idiot at the Mayflower. First time seeing that show, 3rd new (for me) show of 2019 so that little personal challenge is going well.

It's a week of shows, travel and hope for me. Five musicals with a lot of mileage by public transport which can go wrong.
Dr. Dolittle at Oxford in its final week on Wednesday afternoon followed by Mamma Mia at The Novello in the evening (so hoping for no rail delays Oxford to Marylebone)
Club Tropicana opening night at the Churchill, Bromley on Thursday. (last time there was for Dr.Dolittle's opening night in November, hoping I don't jinx CT too!)
The Producers matinee at Manchester on Saturday (involving 9 hours on a National Express coach from and back to London the same day, hoping for no motorway delays and keeping two seats for myself)
She Loves Me (amateur) at Stroud on Sunday. (awkward rail + coach journey due to weekend engineering work so hoping I get there in time and don't then get stranded in London on the journey home)

Tomorrow I shall be at the Charing Cross Theatre for 'Violet'.
Gosh, the last time I had anything purple underneath those arches was back in my youthful days at Heaven mixed with a voddy. Happy days . . . .
