Seriously? 40 points for one of the ugliest charlestons we've ever seen? It's a world gone mad.
#FayeFix
I think it'll be between Stacey and Joe. If there's any justice in the world it will anyway.

Faye is a better dancer than Stacey (and she is partnered by a generous pro - not someone who makes it all about him)

Judges not critical tonight and again I think we must miss something on the telly.

Gosh! What a grumpy lot! I've just caught up and thought it was the best show, by far, this series. No, Joe did NOT deserve a 10 for that and the costumes were horrible, but I thought they all danced really well - yes, even Lauren. I loved Faye's Charleston, though I actually thought that during the bits on strings they were out of synch with each other. I was crying with laughter during the yodelling in the fields section. I hated the choreography for Ashley's quickstep - Pasha has never been much of a favourite of mine and I think he demonstrated exactly why in this. The quickstep is the dance I would want to do if I ever went on Strictly (insert your own horrified emoji) but not that one. It was far too busy and messy. oxfordsimon, I'd be interested to know what you thought in last night's performance made it all about Kevin? (I inferred that from your comment about Faye's 'generous' partner and comparing her to Stacey.) I absolutely loved that piece and hardly remember seeing him. He has actually done a wonderful job as I couldn't even bear to watch Stacey at the beginning of the series and now I honestly wouldn't mind if she won (after Faye and Charles of course!) Well, I enjoyed it. You can see how far they've come. I just wish they'd get rid of the rumba - I've a feeling that will be curtains for Charles.

To be fair to Ashley, she does swish her skirt about nicely each week. That must deserve at least one 10.

Last night was better than normal from Kevin - though, of course, being in white/cream meant that when he was in shot, he was the focus as everyone and everything else was very dark. I appreciate that may not have been his call and that it sort of fitted with the narrative. But, on the whole, his performances have been full of exaggerated facial expressions, singing along with the songs and generally calling attention to himself. Quite frequently, with Louise in particular, he would seem to ensure that he was facing the camera and his partner wasn't (when in hold) - now some of that is just part and parcel of being in hold - but there are ways and means of making sure that your partner is seen. To me, he has a very 'me, me, me' attitude - from the kicks he gives at the end of the presentation sequence every week to his excessive reactions to everything, it feels very Kevin-centric. Even Stacey makes little digs about it in her training videos - I can't remember exact quotes, but I have picked up on it a few times. I just find him insufferable. I know people love him. But he has gone from very humble in his first season to being overbearing.

But he has gone from very humble in his first season to being overbearing. Just a couple of points. The lighting on Kevin's white shirt when he appeared (SHE had had the limelight in the beginning) was brilliant and in keeping with the dream theme of the piece. I know some people have complained about them changing the story, but they had to do something with the song they were given and I thought it totally genius! I agree that when Kevin joined Strictly he over-danced massively. However, within 2 or 3 weeks he'd obviously watched himself back/been spoken to and stopped doing that - like Graziano this series - lots of them do it and most of them stop quickly. (Let's not mention Kristina.) I don't think Stacey is making digs, I honestly think she absolutely adores him. I'm also aware that Shirley favours him and showers excessive praise on him and is also struggling to hide her dislike of Karen. But, apart from last year with she who shall remain nameless, he has always got to the final and it took him several seasons to even be in a dance-off. Speaks for itself that he does a good job.

It is all a matter of taste and he is very much not mine. I don't doubt he can dance and train others. But I just seem to dread each of his routines because of the very Kevin-ness of it all. That is why some people like him - but it is also why I cannot stand him!

When Kevin first came in I jokingly referred to it as the Kevin Clifton show with a lot seeming to be about him - his Mrs and Sister on the show.
He does seem to have got better the last couple of years though and maybe since the split from Karen.
Karen and Jeanette still think it is all about them and they have to hog the camera in the Interview Area.
I could understand Faye and Giovanni being a potentially more popular couple than Stacey and Kevin but the bookies don't seem to think that.
I wonder when Stacey receives her MBE she'll say "Alriggghtt your Madge, did you watch me and Kev and Striclyyy"

I wonder when Stacey receives her MBE she'll say "Alriggghtt your Madge, did you watch me and Kev and Striclyyy" Oh I do hope so and good for her. She's never made any secret about her ordinary background. I think that's why she's so popular on the show, she seems completely and utterly genuine whether one likes her or not (which is where I think some other contestants struggle with). She's obviously having an absolute blast on the show and it's infectious. I agree with Tibidabo, I think she adores Kevin. She had always said he was her favourite and it was obvious that's who she wanted to be paired with. I think people like that she's come from a completely different background than the normal pop or acting route and is actually good and clearly enjoying it.

I don't think she's anywhere near as good as her marks suggest, and as I fully believe she'll win by miles, we will therefore have another year where the best dancer doesn't win.

The show is about learning to dance. Ashley made her name as dancer/singer. The Pussycat Dolls were a dance group before they were pop stars. People want to see the celebs learn a dance and perform it well in a week, Ashley had all those skills before she started and that's not exciting, because you already know she can do it.
Stacey to win!!

Dance style is irrelevant. She has already spent years in dance classes and studios. She knows how to pick up choreography and how to perform to huge crowds. And that contemporary dance was hardly brand new for her.

Personally, I don't normally mind if they can dance a bit beforehand. It all adds to the mix. But Ashley (much as I love watching her) is maybe taking things a teeny step too far. And talking of Steps...I don't get the indifference for Faye. She's been one of my favourites since the beginning and I adore her partnership with Giovanni. (ThankYOU! ThankYOOOOOUUUU!)

Kevin has said he looks at a dance and finds out which steps his partner can and cannot do and really pushes the ones they can to and maybe doesn't make them continue to try to learn ones they might struggle with. His reasoning being if judges see steps done well they have to mark those up and he may put filler around this so some of his routines may not have the content say Pasha has but he feels this way gets him and his partner the best marks they can.

And that contemporary dance was hardly brand new for her. It isn't irrelevant - yes, no matter what the dance there is maybe an advantage in terms of picking up choreography (though some people's brains are just wired better to do that anyway), but dance styles are vastly different, so not all experience is good experience. For example, Debbie McGee's ballet experience helped in some ways (core strength) but hindered in others (she seemed incapable of doing a heel lead in any ballroom dance). And it's simply untrue to say that people with dance experience have an advantage in terms of performing in front of a crowd - anyone who has ever done live TV or theatre has that. People seem to blindly assume that dance experience is a good thing and is the only relevant experience, when in reality it is much more complex than that. The only purely advantageous experience is previous ballroom and Latin.

People do like the "journey" which I think accounts for a lot of the lack of support for Ashley. I like good dancing which I why I continue to vote for her. One of the joys of strictly is seeing those celebrities who have never danced before continuously improve, but in my opinion by the time you get to the semi final stage it should be the best dancers that are left. This year there is a good mix of those who have danced before, and those who haven't who have reached that stage.
Previous dance experience didn't help Lee Ryan!

And singing with Russell Watson. Nope. That one has totally passed me by. No idea what you're talking about. (Presumably @ryan's scuttling down to the basement and dusting off his copy of this as I type...)

You asked for it. Don't say I didn't warn you. Yeah, I kind of did! Could have been worse you know - she could have been singing in the same indeterminate language as Russell. Took me two listens to determine that it's a kind of Northern Italian....I think...? (And I'm not talking northern Italy here! ) Makes me look on Giovanni's yodelling in a whole different light.

The blonde dreadlocks were tragic although I think any white person with dreadlocks does look right, nothing to do with culture just don't think they look right. Faye has certainly aged well over the last 20 years.

Literally watched the results show because of Adam Lambert... what talented man! But it once again just showed how disrespectful it is to the guest singers on the Strictly results show to make then share the stage with a pair of professional dancers. I know it is the format of the show but I found it particularly annoying last night when so much prominence was given to the dancers while I wanted to concentrate on enjoying Adam Lambert's performance.

Who was singing I Dreamed A Dream? Sounded like Hayley to me, Andrea does the more soulful numbers although they had that younger girl with the short blonde hair on a few weeks. Hayley and Tommy seem to be the only two permanent singers on every week.
