Anybody else received the letter from the RSC re membership? Firstly the £10 increase, i guess i will continue but have to say if it went up again to £80 or £90 i would expect more benefits. However it does say that there will be FOUR plays in next years mainhouse season, prob the only way Doran can keep to his six year timetable. App the Swan season will have new works, hmmmm what happened to the Jacobethans? Oh well hopefully not long to wait for the announcement😉

Lynette and all other devoted fans of Maria Aberg will be keen to catch her premiere production of Roald Dahl's Fantastic Mr Fox, a "huge theatrical feast with music and songs." "For all the family Ages 5+" Touring from November to June. (Not RSC)

Doran obvs likes China. Lije the sound of the Romans, presumably with one ensemble. Jacobethans having a break fron the Swan😒

Who is directing ? Doran has directed all four of those Roman plays before. Two of them (Coriolanus and Antony & Cleo) are also notoriously difficult to cast, so we need to see the actors - I expect they'll be a long time announcing casting.

Sounds likes a good season. Haven't seen those Shakespeare plays and I like much of Richard Bean's work. Wonder if Doran is directing elsewhere next year.

Angus Jackson is the season director of the RST Shakespeare Roman season, directing the opening Julius Caesar and the final play Coriolanus (booking in the Winter 2017 season).
Iqbal Khan directs Antony and Cleopatra, with Josette Simon returning to Stratford to play Cleopatra.
Blanche McIntyre directs Titus Andronicus.

Saw her as Titania in Boyd's Dream, that was 16 years ago!! She will always remain in my heart as one of Blakes Seven😀😀 shame about the usual lack of casting details😕 but looking forward to season nonetheless.

Josette Simon was meant to be in Luce at Southwark but dropped out. In theory she is quite an old Cleopatra but she looks amazing so it will probably work.

The other casting announcement is that Julius Caesar and Antony and Cleopatra share a single acting company.
Also, the four Shakespeare Rome plays in the RST will have a season design environment by Robert Innes Hopkins and play on a reconfigured RST stage, with a more intimate audience experience.
The Chinese play and the City of Culture play have national press nights on consecutive evenings, so maybe the RSC will hire a bus to shuttle Michael Billington and chums between Kingston-upon-Hull and Stratford-upon-Avon. Imagine the threat to the national critical conversation if it were to crash in a motorway pile-up with Mark Shenton as the only survivor, due to the lorry bouncing off his ample flesh.

The lack of casting details will be because it is so far ahead they haven't cast most of the parts yet.

Lack of Doran (other than a revival of "Venus and Adonis") is interesting, as is Angus Jackson's role as "Season Director".
Regarding the membership changes Martin mentioned - just looked at the website and it seems they have dropped the "£10 off two full price tickets" benefit from full membership. So actually a £30 price increase.

Indeedio. However interested to see they are finally bringing in season offers whereby if you book for whole season you get discount. Also there is a deal if you book JC and AC😉.

JULIUS CAESAR TITUS ANDRONICUS ANTONY AND CLEOPATRA Angus Jackson to direct one. Any thoughts for the roles of Caesar, Cleopatra, Antony, Brutus, Cassius? Glad to see my earlier post confirmed! Sounds like a great rest of season too.

In their email covering the season up to September Coriolanus isn't mentioned. Is it scheduled after that ? Yep Jan, its a bit like this year when they announced Lear but it wasnt in original summer booklet. It looks like a standalone production as the other three roman plays all finish in September. Maybe they have someone lined up who cant be part of ensemble?

According to artwork on the Hull Truck Theatre's website, it looks like Mark Addy is playing Sir John Hotham in The Hypocrite.
I enjoyed One Man, Two Guvnors so may attempt to see this as it's by Richard Bean. Not that I know a massive amount about Hull or whatever this play is about, but I'm always down for a good laugh. Other than that, there's very little else I particularly like the look of in this season.
