This kind of stuff happening blows my mind! How can someone be so oblivious and not know how to behave when watching a show?! Speaking of Come From Away, on Saturday evening there was a woman in the front row of the dress circle who had her BARE feet up on the edge of the circle for the entire performance. I just despair with people!

Two of the cast members were sitting at the front making a lot of noise and when I commenced my safety demonstration I appeared to have inconvenienced them as they had to talk extra loud to hear each other What depresses me more is that those bozos are likely to be responsible for the deaths of fellow passengers if there is an emergency. I used to work in airline operations, and the first thing you get told is that cabin crew are there for one reason only - passenger safety. Everything else is secondary to that, and they know it. Trouble is, passengers don't, and think the safety briefing is a laugh. What everybody SHOULD be doing is paying close attention, THEN work out their own escape plans. Count the rows to the nearest and second nearest exits. Look at who is around and work out if they will obstruct you, and how to get around that. It could save your life. Well said monkey! Look around on your next flights to see just how many people need to be told to put bags under seats/armrests down/seatbelts on/windows open etc etc. Many people are oblivious to it. I can see why it happens in theatres too, people get all the information but are so wrapped up in their own little cloud cuckoo land where it's ok to take photos and leave their phones on.

At Evita last night, which I completely adored, a couple a row or 2 behind us talked the ENTIRE way through. I wasn't close enough to say anything although I did give them a Paddington Hard Stare a couple of times to no effect. I always feel a bit like other audience members might be thinking I’m a weirdo if I ask someone to be quiet, or put their phone down. It doesn’t stop me but I can feel eyes burning in to me sometimes. Then of course there was that stand up row at the Little Shop tour a couple of years ago. I shushed this woman across the aisle who started singing from the get-go. She happened to have purple hair. At the end miss purple hair and her chav boyfriend came up as we were leaving and stated having a right go, saying we were talking about her, making fun of her appearance, it’s a musical, people are allowed to sing (I put them right on that one in no uncertain terms). We basically argued all the way out of the theatre, loud. People were looking. I couldn’t understand why on Earth she thought we were talking about her, making fun etc until the following day I realised why. At the interval my group were stood in the aisle discussing the show we were seeing the following week which happened to be... Hair 🙂

Ewwwww. I hope I wasn't sitting in the same seat when I saw it! This is even more disturbing than the play itself. Speaking of bad behaviour - not at a show, but I went to a gig in the park last weekend. Nice sunny afternoon, lots of families with kids et cetera. The crowd was pretty big. And all of a sudden I felt that something strange was happening to the back of my skirt. Apparently one guy felt a bit bored so he actually tried to lift my skirt and thought I wouldn't notice! Bleeeuuurgh!! (Lesson learned: always wear dungarees to gigs.)

At the 9-5 tour tonight there was a problem with the stage and they had to do an "in concert" version. There was so much complaining and heckling that the performance was abandoned.
Not sure the whole story but surely if they go to an in concert version they have to offer refunds if people want them as it was not as advertised?

Not sure the whole story but surely if they go to an in concert version they have to offer refunds if people want them as it was not as advertised? Having been there, I discussed this in the 9 to 5 thread, but yes, the producers made a mistake by not proactively offering refunds. By that point, there had been more than an hour of delays, with the show to continue as a sit down concert. The actual number of audience members who heckled was closer to 5 people (one loud man), but I'm sure other audience members felt the same way. This was a sold out show and wasn't cheap, with Friday night prices and a lot of premium seats. That's before thinking about everyone who had paid to get there and spent money in the bar (the whole show demographic naturally appeals to the party audience and the extended interval gave even more opportunity for drinking), as well as people who just can't stay an extra hour due to transport. As it was, with the way the producers chose to deal with the problem, they left a whole sold out audience disappointed and out of pocket.

That's my tweet. They also allowed a woman on the front row to leave about 15 minutes before interval to buy two pints, and come back. That should not be allowed.
Same woman, and male companion, kept checking their phones and talking.
Several phones beeped and rang during the show. Woman behind me kept playing with her bracelet-stack, causing a jingling noise.

Having worked in cinemas I have to say, popcorn wise that is a light dusting! But I get your point. And they definitely shouldn't have the bar open during the show, what the hell?!

I genuinely think the human race is now beyond hope.
At the ballet last night we were asked, as is now the custom, to turn off our mobile phones. Then we were advised that there would be a three minute pause between the 1st and 2nd ballets.
So what did half the audience do during those three looooong minutes? That's right, they whipped out their equipment!
It wasn't just the young 'uns neither; the old 'uns were just as bad.
And don't get me started on those members of the audience who mistakenly thought three minutes was long enough to get to and from the toilet. They were then allowed to return to their mid-row seats half way into a 12 minute ballet, disturbing all those around them.

Half way into a 12 minute ballet?! That's ridiculous. I have found myself getting my phone out at the interval just because everyone else is and I start thinking maybe I'm missing something, of course no one has ever messaged me.

I sometimes do it just to avoid talking to the person next to me, particularly if I'm there by myself and so are they. Mind you, I also do it when I'm sitting next to my husband, to avoid talking to him.

Oh Frances, you heartless cow. How could you?
Dumpy middle aged woman stole the Glamdring from the teeny tiny girl who was already on her way to the stage.

"Weirdest Audience Behavior Ever", they say, although the "Perhaps" suggests they know that no matter what story they tell there's bound to be someone who can top it. Let's face it, it would need to involve an octopus and a lawn mower just to be in the running.

I think it's the idea of doing it to Pinter that's so weird. In particular all those pauses must make it quite difficult to keep the momentum going.

I have never seen a slower audience getting out of a theatre than the one at 9 to 5 in Manchester last night. By the time the predominantly female audience had collected their bags, glasses, remains of the wine they were drinking and other assorted items then had a discussion of the show before decided which exit to amble towards then finally doing so,it was nearly ten minutes after the end of the show before we got outside

Helps greatly in those situations.

Whilst watching a Bollywood themed musical Stardust in the B2 Theatre at Belgrade Coventry last night, someone walked out when two male characters kissed and apparently complained to the box office that it should have been advised that show contained a gay storyline.

I thought this had been quite widely promoted as having the first same-sex wedding in an Asian musical performed in the UK (or words along those lines). That rather gives away the gay storyline theme to me. But the show page on the Belgrade website itself doesn't give you that impression. Not that gay themes should need any special attention in this day and age.

I must admit I didn't know about the Gay storyline when I went to see it, but I'd picked up on it before the first direct indication about it. I fully agree that there needs to be no sort of disclaimer about what the sexuality of any relationships in a play/musical are likely to be. Only needs to be flagged up if the scenes whichever gender they feature are graphic.

Some years ago, I bought a garden gnome at the Columbia Rd flower market and then went straight to see a show with the gnome in tow.
