Glad Brenda is back, she's great. Surprised they didn't get a name for Edna though I guess it all depends on what other names they get. If they've got a name as Link, they wouldn't need one as Edna.

Yes true. I bet Velma is a name (it always is) and if Wilbur, Link and Amber or Penny were names too?

The show sold really well last time - if they reckon they can hit target without shelling out on names, that's what they'll do!

Who is playing Edna?
The original London production didn't have lavish production values, it didn't need it, it was made up for by an excellent book and score.
However I cannot understand why they are cutting back for the tour agin, I saw the last tour in Wimbledon and Bromley, my favourite show.
They have 3 aerosol canisters at the end, they only need 1!!!
Wilbur's shop is laughable as it is non existent, where this wouldn't cost much to build and would look quite decent too, if done well.

Yeah I agree, the recent tour's production values were terrible. The show is all about the music, but it just looked so flimsy and tacky.

Thanks
Don't know Matt Rixon, wouldn't be a draw for me, but saying that a draw for me is someone who can play the role decently than a marquee name.
Annoying as they could put on a lavish production for not much money, hate it when producers super scrimp and rely on the name to sell tickets.

He's Matthew Kellys son, and his name is really Matthew Kelly but he changed it to avoid confusion with his dad (whose name is really Dave!) He is marvellous by all accounts. He & his Dad did the Ugly Sisters in Cinderella last year too.

Yes the set in the recent tour wasn't very good. Just the two houses that contributed for the whole story really, as well as the Corny Collins set. No joke shop or record shop at all...
Not sure if I will make a return this time round. Saw it only a year ago. Brenda Edwards is FAB as Maybelle and sings the roof off but I've seen her already. Might be enticed to go back if the production itself is different but will hold off until further casting is announced before I book. If Velma is good casting, I might go. One of my favourite musicals but seen it twice before on separate occasions.
Surprised they didn't get Tony back after he said on Twitter how much he loved that role and how he'd love to perform it again.
Interested to see who else is cast now...

Do those two have fly towers?! Carlisle Sands doesnt have a fly tower. You can rig from the roof, but cant fly things 'out'.

I've never seen Matt Rixon perform but he's played part before and should be good. They will probably get a name or two in some of the parts - as said previously Velma, Wilbur and even Corny are the sort of roles they may look at.

Tour devoid in Est Anglia also.
Perhaps it is looking to come back to London, as pointed out above it is staying outside the M25.

I'll give it a miss this time. We had a thread about long tours recently and whether audiences start to get an inferior product towards the end. Manchester is 24th on the list and I can only imagine that it might all be a bit jaded by then.

www.westendwilma.com/news-cast-announced-for-the-uk-tour-of-hairspray-the-musical/ Will there be more cast announced ? That seems quite small for an ensemble or does the stage version always have a small cast ?

That looks like a similar size cast to the last tour. The Dynamites are ensemble too.
Interesting that they haven't gone down the celebrity casting like they did last time. The show is probably known well enough for them not to have to go down that route.

Really underwhelmed with the cast - only person I like loads is Brenda. Surprised there are basically no celebrities this time - especially Velma. They probably think they can sell it just off of name. Won't see again as saw last tour

Does Gina Murray not count as royalty? Her and her sister practically ran the West End in the late 90's/2000's and Mazz is still awesome. I might actually cough up to see this again.

I've a feeling that maybe tomj's feeling of the cast being underwhelming also stems from the surprise that there are no celebrities....

Norman Pace is perhaps the "name" casting but Brenda and Gina are established West End stars and Layton was fabulous in Rent.

According to Instagram Dan Clift (Starlight Express) is in this as first cover link. According to his post him and a number of others were left out of the press release
