That's my objective view, on a personal note seeing this last night was testament to why I love musicals- I was having a horrible day (kind of stuff that makes you think you might not go to the theatre- but I'm glad I did, because I was transported to a wonderful 'happy place' for 2 1/2 hours and had some real genuine escapism. So sometimes that happy musical romcom is exactly what you need. BIB - this, absolutely! Hope today's a better day Like what I'm hearing about this show and look forward to seeing this when it reaches Brum. Thank you- explanation in 'how was your day' thread rather than being a vague-boarder. But I'm so glad I had this booked last night, and I'm going to seek out the music now- it was joyous and fun. A great shame it was very empty last night in Cardiff hopefully the weekend does better for them.

You see, interestingly, with Ray i thought his Dancing, and lesser extent, his acting, were much better than his singing. I mean he didn't have much and to be very fair to him All About Th Green is an incredibly energetic routine, but to me his voice seemed rather weak. But i did like him overall and his dancing was certainly great to watch.
Also, he was literally outside the theatre entrance in Leicester having a cigarette 20 mins before the show and i walked past him and got a little star struck. By Ray Quinn of all people. Now i don't come into contact with 'celebs' very often so don't judge me haha!

That'll be nice for whoever he's singing to. 🤢

I'm seeing it in Dartford a bit later (and has just booked Brighton for August), but now I know I have friends in Wales so may pop up there at some point! This year marks 10 years I first saw Jon on stage apparently. I was lucky to see Avenue Q's original cast when I came to London for the first time

I was living in London then and got a bit obsessed with Avenue Q, I once went twice in one week...I had such a crush on Jon then too! And yes, you should come to Wales! we can go on theatre adventures and see the sights (most likely in the rain but that's an authentic Welsh Experience for you!)

I might see this again, that trailer has got me excited to see it again. I really really enjoyed this a few weeks ago and will look to book again when it comes to Birmingham or Nottingham in the summer.

I was intending to see this when it gets to Cambridge later this month but that trailer is a bit offputting. It looks rather, well, tacky. Is it deliberately focusing on the most OTT bits or is the whole show like that?

I was intending to see this when it gets to Cambridge later this month but that trailer is a bit offputting. It looks rather, well, tacky. Is it deliberately focusing on the most OTT bits or is the whole show like that? Also badly priced in Cambridge...Same top price £36 to sit at the front as half way back in the balcony. At sister act the sides of the back stalls were not top price either. It has so many tickets left shame really but the price has definitely put me off booking. I paid £18 for a seat in the circle over the road at the arts for full monty and the view is much better than the balcony in the Corn exchange. Shame it isn't going to Milton Keynes, I saw funny girl twice yesterday for the same amount and the difference in parking costs cancelled out the petrol difference! £3.60 for the day rather than £26. I am sure I will give in on the day for another chance to see Jon Robyns, I also really enjoyed Ray Quinn in the Judy tour a couple of years back.

I saw this last week in Sunderland as I loved it when it last toured a few years ago. It took me a while to get into this time round though, not sure exactly why. Once it got going though I really enjoyed it again, I love the songs and it's a nice feel-good show. I also thought Jon Robyns was great.

Glad it's not just me Rozzi Rainbow I saw it twice back in 2008 and absolutely loved it. However like you it took me ages to get into this version. I thought I'd love it from the start especially as I like Jon Robyns but it wasn't until the shopping scene that I finally was fully into it. Maybe it was just that I was more easily pleased 9 years ago, who knows? But I loved that version so much that I had to see it a second time. I did enjoy this version but I doubt I'll be heading back to see it again. I found myself getting annoyed with Grandma Rosie in this which I don't think helped. Hmm, finding it hard to think of really nice things to say, so I'm going to shut up before I say more things I didn't like about it. However even though you can't tell I did actually like it.

I found myself getting annoyed with Grandma Rosie in this. I seen Ruth Madoc in the UK tour of Annie years ago and she was so annoying in that so I can imagine it is going to be the exact same performance in this.

This sums up exactly how I felt about it. I actually caught the original NYC production years ago... The show is one of my favourites but I didn't feel this was a particularly stellar production of the material that makes it so delightful. It wasn't that it was bad, and if you haven't seen the show before, you really should have a great time. However it just lacked a bit of heart - and I sort of got the impression that the company didn't get half of the 80s/NJ references they were making...

Loved this- great ensemble cast. Jon Robyns, Roxanne Pallet and Ray Quinn are all super. Really catchy score. Fantastic choreography. Great staging- looked very sharp. The book was a little questionable at times; quite crude- e.g. simulated fellatio onstage and quite a few tasteless jokes. Still it did seem like an older crowd rather than a family show crowd.
Overall I would still recommend it highly! Just maybe not one for the kids.

Saw this tonight and loved it. Left grinning from ear to ear. Would 100% reccomend. Oh, and a couple got engaged on stage at the end. I died, it was so cute. Will probably write up more tomorrow but overall I thought it was fabulous. Great fun! One thing that did trouble me though... (spoiler) {Spoiler - click to view} Did Linda technically rape Robbie on the night she comes back? I couldn't track exactly what happened, but it felt like that is what was suggested...

Ok so I'm not normally one for public proposals but that made me go "ahhh" and I agree left me proper grinning!
{Spoiler - click to view} I wasn't sure either, whether they actually did the deed? did they stop? if not kinda sorta probably yes? (all to say it's not terribly clear, but certainly wasn't terribly nice)

Really great fun, from the first song to last.
Loved the garish thrift shop chic costume design. The whole production felt overwhelmingly bright and clashy and I adored it!
Obviously Jon Robyns was great, I'm a big fan and he never disappoints. Cassie Compton was really cute as well, and Roxanne Pallett has a great voice!
Aside from the slightly shifty thing I posted under the spoiler warning in my last post (which is part of the story anyway, and not this individual production - that's if it happened at all!) I couldn't fault this tour. I'll be seeing it again with a friend in Bromley later in the year and I really can't wait!

If someone wants to see Simon Bolland as Robbie he is on both shows today. And if someone booked this in frigging July to see Jon Robyns and got a leave approved for that and flied over 1600 miles for that... than it's just unlucky me Anyone needs front row ticket for this eve? Hope they do returns

I saw this in Bristol. Hadn't really considered going until my friend saw it in Cardiff and said it was good I was very pleasantly surprised at how good it was, fluffy fun,but very well done. I hadn't seen Jon Robyns on stage since Avenue Q and he was just brilliant.

Ahh, oh no Stasia! Are you going to try and swap them for another day? Just did! I saw the matinee and loved the show and the understudy guy (he looks and sounds pretty much like Jon's brother, haha) but I swapped the evening ticket for Saturday eve and hoping to finally see Jon as Robbie. He promises to be there so I hope I won't be walking around London with huuuuge and heavy bottle for another day Had to let my Frogs ticket go but you know, priorities
