...can Ian sing this?
I thought he was good in WWRY but it certainly didn't strike me as 'Jesus'

Seems bad wanting him to get crucified every night I would feel worse about the glitter. Hes going to be finding it in places glitter shouldnt be! How does it manage to to get everywhere? If 1 person in a group of friends goes out with glitter on, by the end of the night, everyone has glitter on them.

I remember speaking to Declan Bennet after the show at the RPOAT and said to him he had glitter still on his face. He laughed and said he has it everywhere else too!

Julian Clary announced as Herod for certain dates. Bit disappointed they've resorted to stunt casting. Herod nearly always is.its the easiest role to stunt cast. I actually think this is great casting My main concern that one of the three main leads would be stunt cast, I'm just glad they seem to be going quality over names for those.

After seeing this at the Barbican, I think the casting of Clary will actually be a good bit of comic relief that this production needs, especially if he does some ad libs like in the BBC recording.

This is a decent bit of casting giving this cameo song to Julian and having just listened to his rendition he can carry the song in his vocal range. Biggins played the role before so Herod can be fairly camp too. When I've seen the show they have often had a bigger person playing Herod so the slender Julian will be a bit different but he can surely carry this off and its a nice little role to have prior to his Palladium panto run.

Generally against stunt casting, but guess was inevitable they'd need something for bums on seats.
And if any role could be stunted, should be Herod. And think Julian could also be pretty good.
So yeah, not really bad news!

Camp, willowy and nasty-dangerous should make for a different Herod. I like.

He's got the one joke which he flogs to death. He was the worst thing about the Taboo concert last year

Look forward to seeing his Mince Herod... (a play on his longstanding touring show titles/themes before any of the thought police start sounding their klaxons)...

Herod has always had an element of camp but this will likely be the campest yet

I'm picturing a similar Herod to Rik Mayall's version, perhaps I'll be way off.

Way back on the 'original' (of this iteration) run at OAT, the guy playing Herod - Peter Caulfield - played it pretty camp (hard not to the way it's staged) so for once I think this stunt casting is inspired. I can even see a little physical similarity already, so high hopes here. Don't expect any cartwheels this time though..

Peter Caulfield looks like a possessed Emcee from Cabaret with that amazing make up also Boy George vibes.

New to this board but I think this is allowed. Manchester Theatres has an offer for £30 best available seats for this show at The Palace for Mon 11th, Tues 12th, Weds 13th September.
I really fancied watching as I haven't seen it before and hear it's very good (I'm fairly new to the theatre bug!) so have taken advantage and got stalls seats for the Tuesday with some friends. Looking forward to seeing Ian McIntosh as Jesus, my daughter and I saw him in We Will Rock You recently as Galileo and thought he was very good.

Doesn't look like further star casting will be announced for Herod. Timo Tatzbar has been announced as Herod at other venues.

So it's interval at opening night at the Palace and have to say am rather underwhelmed so far. It's lacking the punch of previous incarnations, lots of duff notes and some lacklustre vocals from Jesus and Judas in the opening numbers. Jesus is more boyband member than rock star, will be interesting to see if he can pull off Gethsemane. Also it all looks very cramped on the Palace stage. Am in the front row and loads of glitter everywhere already!

Gah! Jesus shouldn’t be trying ‘to pull off’“Gethsemane”…it should be a masterclass in acting through song, reinforced by kick ass vocals. 🤦♂️

Ok I may have been a little harsh. It's the first night... Act 2 definitely picked up the pace. Other than Julian clary who just spoke his words and added his usual ad libs.

I usually like Julian Clary and won't be seeing him when I see this in MK, but perhaps that's not a bad thing. Not sure why they felt they needed "star" casting for this - would have thought it could stand on its own two feet quite easily for a tour.

Clary was shocking.. Ruined it.
Sound for Judas' vocals also seemed a bit off all night. Not sure if it was the sound mix or his voice or a bit of both
Thought Mary and Jesus were good
Hadnt seen the previous London productions but enjoyed this production
Band sounded good

I was in the front row and struggled to hear some of them. And not sure what happened at the beginning of the "Christ you know I love you" section but the band were definitely off. I'm putting a lot of it down to being the first night of the tour and as I said above, definitely thought act 2 improved. Will be booking another ticket before it leaves Manchester.
