A statement from Nicole: "I had every intention of doing Cats on Broadway but the contract was never finalised. I am incredibly blessed to be given so many amazing opportunities, including Cats, but unfortunately we weren't able to make it work this time around. I adore and respect Andrew, I'm so grateful for our friendship and can’t wait for the opportunity to create more magic together." www.westendframe.com/2016/05/nicole-scherzinger-releases-statment.html

Or could this be a huge pr stint when Nicole decides to star in it after all?

Lloyd Webber's response to Nicole quitting Cats is hysterical ! "
"I mean she's crazy but American producers just say, 'Ah well, we'll just get someone else', because she's not actually that well known in America. I'm furious because I really believe she's a really fantastically talented girl and I really went out on a limb to get her into the London Palladium here and it makes me look like an absolute t**t. But never mind, there will be another girl on Broadway and Nicole won't get her Tony Award."

The whole thing is crazy. I'm wondering who they're going to get at this point with performances starting in a few weeks. So much for capitalizing off of some start name. Perhaps tickets were selling well enough already that they didn't need to? Have to be honest I haven't seen any advertisements or anything. There's a nice enough of ads for Phantom and School of Rock but can't remember seeing one for Cats

I'd love to see Shoshana Bean make a Broadway return in this. Her Memory could be bombastic. If they'd go with the way they've casted London, then they'd probably go down the pop singer route and chose something slightly out the box. If they'd go musical theatre route, they'd probably fare well with a Shoshana Bean-type as they did with Kerry Ellis who is half musical and barely crossing over to mainstream.
Would be cool to see Liz Callaway again at some point. She played Grizabella in the 90s, and practically sounds exactly the same now as she did then.

Kerry Ellis is pure musical theatre. Who knows of her outside the theatre world?

I think people who "kind of" go to theatre will know who Kerry Ellis. I would think she has the popularity and name recognition of Ruthie Henshall outside of the MT crowd in the 90s.

Shoshana Bean would actually make me consider watching the show on Broadway. I sat next to her at a dinner party once with her pushy father and Shoshana was not pleasant. I never saw her as talented after that, you can see in her eyes how pushy and icy she is.
Still an amazing talent.

Leona Lewis rumours are quite interesting, I could see it happening. She is a great singer, have never seen her act but Griz doesn't require that much anyway.

If Nicole Scherzinger is anything to go by, the part is a doddle. Dash through the first half of 'Memory' like she's got a taxi waiting outside, shout out the "Touch meeeeeeeeee" bit and lap up the applause. Job done. No acting required. Apart from the oh-so-humble hand on heart bow at the end. Even Leona Lewis who has always seemed nice but a bit on the dull could manage that.

Clearly we feel very different about how amazing Nicole was in the role but, on paper, yes, it is a very simple role haha.

You never saw her as talented after that but still an amazing talent? ;-) I'll be honest, I don't care what she's like at a dinner party. I think she would be an amazing Grizabella. :-)

Would Leona sell tickets in the US? She wouldn't, but she wouldn't need to. Cats will sell Cats for long enough before they need to bring a star name in.

Leona Lewis rumours are quite interesting, I could see it happening. She is a great singer, have never seen her act but Griz doesn't require that much anyway. Orribly miscast if true - old cat - young sounding, and looking, actor. Well in keeping with the current trend to cast Christine's who sound 30+, and the Wicked anniversary cast - who are playing characters they first played up to 8 years ago. Wicked now has a university starting age well into your thirties. Leona lewis could sing it beautifully, but she's the personification of the slinky athletic looking young cat, and will sound it too. Elaine Paige at least woud be the right age .....

Is her age really set in stone though? It's clear that the direction they took with the Palladium version is a younger, sexier Grizabella who has done crystal meth and has fallen from grace.

I just learned that Cats will be coming to Belgium as part of a special 35th anniversary tour. Has anyone heard anything of this tour? I guess it's not the current UK tour, but it will be a new production.
